One word for this DVD: BIZARRO!,
By
This review is from: Sealab 2021 - Season 2 (DVD)
I've loved this show the first time it I saw it late one sunday night. The adult humor and quirkyness make Sealab 2021 a definate standout. The lack of decent animation actually makes these short cartoons ten times better. When you hear the characters speak in extreme and emotional tones only to be portrayed with about 5 different facial expressions and only about 3 total body postures, it makes it all the more hilarious. The BIZARRO episode by itself is worth the price of this DVD. I own season 1 which is in constant rotation with my other DVD's. The genious writting will have you and your friends quoting all of Captian murphy's insane lines. Sparks, the introverted and psychiotic eyes and ears of Sealab has gotta be my favoirte character. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long for this. If you love Aqua Teen Hunger Force or Space Ghost, this cartoon is perfect for you. "look turtle face, Star Wars!"

SEASON 2 ???,

This is one great, hilarious show that everyone with a sense of humor will enjoy from beginning to end. Well the Season 1 dvd set contained 2 episodes from season 2, but yet this is called Season 2. My guess is there just gonna contain some epsiodes from Season 3 in this set. And its only 145 minutes long.

This review is from: Sealab 2021 - Season 2 (DVD)
As far as content goes, I find that this 2nd season DVD of Sealab is much better than the first, as far as packages go. It almost seemed like with the first set of DVDs, sales were not expected to warrant anything more than just the episodes, with no extras at all.
Indeed, there are commentary tracks on all of the episodes. However, 70/30 only try to do a real commentary for a few episodes before they become bored and just record themselves entertaining themselves. They shoot skeet, they play computer games, they play air hockey, they bowl; and it's funny. But if you're looking for a lot of insight into the show, you're not going to find too much. The tribute to Harry Goz is the closest thing you're going to find on this DVD set to a 'real' extra, in that it's the only 'serious' extra. And thank christ for that. The 20 questions with the cast segment is also quite fun, but it only features four cast members. And if you like strippers, you'll like the 2nd disk. I say, this is a solid buy for a regular Sealab fan, and a Must for the Sealab Afficionado. Wait til you get to the Comic Book Commentary. Excellent.

A major improvement from Season 1, BIZARRO improvement!,

What can I say about this collection? I liked season one but this season two collection is just so much better! It is just plain funnier. The writing has definitely hit its stride and the episodes are all just so different from one another but just so enjoyable. The episode where sealab is shown in the dark for the entire episode with only voices and a few air bubbles is freaking hilarious! "Hey Quinn, It's Captain Murphy". Or the episode where Murphy is trying to find the "pro shop". Or "TinFins". And don't let me forget the BIZARRO episode. I don't think any one of these 13 episodes is weak unlike a few on the season one collection. Plus bonus material this time, such as containing an unaired "rough" episode where Murphy sells his soul to the devil for some pie. Funny. If you are a fan of the show, you probably own this already. If not, go and buy it now, it is not very expensive and you will laugh out loud a lot!

Hilarious episodes, bad extras,
By Denny Gibbons (Champaign, IL USA) - See all my reviews

Season 2 is when the series reached its comedic peak, in my opinion. There are some really great episodes in this collection, such as "Der Dieb", in which Murphy declares "Martian law" in response to the presence of a thief on Sealab; "The Feast of Alvis", where the crew struggles with religious diversity while Murphy prepares for Alvistime, a bastardized version of Christmas that worships a gun-toting outlaw named Alvis; and "Hail, Squishface", where Murphy inadvertantly causes Sealab to be overrun by cute-but-deadly creatures called gloops. This collection is, if anything, a reminder of how much Harry Goz is missed as the voice of Captain Murphy; he was the glue that held the show together, and it just completely fell apart after his death.
The extras are of course terrible, as is typical with bizarre Adult Swim shows in DVD format, because the creators are so weird that they just can't bring themselves to do normal special features and must make everything strange and half-assed. The tribute to Harry Goz is alright, but it consists mainly of brown-nosing from the creators of Sealab, his son Michael Goz, and Bill Lobley (the voice of Sparks). Lobley, in particular, is rather nauseating to listen to because he is such an insufferable suck-up. However, the bad extras are the only reason that this item lost a star. The episodes are solid gold, and I would recommend this collection to any die-hard fan of this bizarre oceanic series.

Great season for this show,

Back with a vengance, Sealab 2021's hilarious 2nd season really shines! The Bizarro characters are in this season. And my favorite episode when Murphy goes searching for a golf shop in his most hated Pod (I think it was Pod 6) and tries to run over somebody just because he's from that pod, and the lovable (but one episode lived) Squishface, a white blob who reproduces by drinking alcohol, farts as a defense mechanicism and can transform into anything. For those who haven't seen that many episodes will enjoy the classic Tinfins (but what makes this episode funny are the Grizzlebees commercials and Kid'n'Play apperances). One thing I would like to point out is that (although Murphy does appear in 3 or 5 more episodes in the 3rd box set) that after this set, Captain Murphy is gone to fight the Great Spice Wars (but in real life, the guy who played Murphy, Harry Goz, died from cancer and the Sealab creators decided it was best to retire his character, like Phil Hartman with Troy McClure and Lional Hutz from the Simpsons). Murphy was probably the best character in the show because of his personality and the Goz did a great job acting as him. This is a great collection. Anyone who likes Adult Swim shows or anything should like this. I recommend this and the 1st season.

Bizarro! episode was my favorite but I bought seasons 1-4 and have enjoyed everyone of them equally. Besides, if you buy Season 1 and you laughed then buying Season 2 won't be too far out of line. However, if you bought seasons 1 & 2 then what's stopping you from finishing it off and buying 2 more seasons?

Season 2 of sealab has some of the best episodes in the series. Particularly Der Dieb, Hail Squishface, Tinfins, Bizarro, Return to Oblivion, Article 4, all amazing. The special features are also excellent. The box art is really fun and creative.

Hilarious, better than the first season,

The second season of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim's Sealab 2021 is even funnier than the second season. Beginning with a thief running rampant throughout Sealab prompting Captain Murphy to declare "martian law" (unaware that what he means is martial law), and continuing with "Hail, Squishface" in which the crew encounters a multi-breeding organism that's too cute for it's own good (a pun towards Star Trek's "Trouble With Tribbles"), a battle over organized religions and the right to worship "Alviss", and in what is the best episode of season 2, the aptly titled "Bizzaro" in which the crew meet their evil doubles. Sealab 2021, much like many of the other programs featured on the Adult Swim lineup, is something you'll either love or hate. It's not the laugh out loud comedy of animated shows like Family Guy, and there are some misses to go along with the hits, but for the most part Sealab 2021 is pure comedic joy. The special features included on this two disc DVD set are a vast improvement over the features offered on season one, including commentaries on every episode (even though the creators don't really offer much insight at all) interviews with the cast, girls in bikinis, and an honest to God tribute to the late Harry Goz (voice of Captain Murphy) who always kept the show worth watching.
