Editorial Reviews

The Hunt for Red October
Based on Tom Clancy's bestseller, directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard) and starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, The Hunt For Red October seethes with high-tech excitement and sweats with the tension of men who hold Doomsday in their hands. A new technologically-superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October, is heading for the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Marko Ramius (Connery). The American government thinks Ramius is planning to attack. A lone CIA analyst (Baldwin) has a different idea: he thinks Ramius is planning to defect, but he has only a few hours to find him and prove it - because the entire Russion naval and air commands are trying to find him, too. The hunt is on!

The Presidio
Lt. Col. Caldwell (SEAN CONNERY) and Police Inspector Jay Austin (MARK HARMON) don't like each other. Not even a little bit. That's because Caldwell helped run Austin out of the military police a few years back. And now these natural enemies are forced to team up to solve a brutal murder at The Presidio military compound. To make matters worse, Inspector Austin has taken a sudden and passionate interest in a beautiful, feisty young woman (MEG RYAN), who just happens to be Lt. Col. Caldwell's daughter. First, sparks fly between the young lovers. Then fists and bullets start flying as this action-packed thriller kicks into high gear and tears up the streets of San Francisco.

The Untouchables
The critics and public agree. Brian De Palma's The Untouchables is a must-see masterpiece - glorious, fierce, larger-than-life depiction of the mob warlord who ruled Prohibition-era Chicago... and the law enforcer who vowed to bring him down. This classic confrontation between good and evil and stars Kevin Costner as federal agent Eliot Ness, Robert De Niro as gangland kingpin Al Capone and Sean Connery as Malone, the cop who teaches Ness how to beat the mob: shoot fast and shoot first.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shrunken Screen to Hide POOR quality April 22, 2010
By Dr. P
Format:DVD
Bought this 3-pack of some of my favorite movies so it would look better on my 55" LED-LCD with movie surround sound. What a rip-off! The quality is "maybe" marginally better than someone in Asia pirating the movie out of the theater with a 1980s video-camera -- and definitely not worthy of a "Collectors Edition" label ... that's a total crock! Some scumbag with zero-ethics got a sick laugh when they packaged this one.

Box looks great, even the 3-way fold-out DVD holder looks nice. When you first put in the DVD, you're expecting it to look awesome because the menu looks normal and fills the whole screen. When the feature starts though, it's this LITTLE DINKY screen with black bars all the way around dominating more than half the picture. Yes, it's "movie-aspect" (however you want to label that), but the video is all grainy and cheezy looking and takes up only a tiny fraction of the area of the usable screen.

We tried "zooming" the picture so it would fill the whole screen, but then it looks worse than our old TiVo does when recording on "basic" quality (no detail visible at all). Even running these DVDs on a high-end Blu-Ray player with great 1080p upscaling, these almost give me a headache trying to watch! The sound is no better. When we ran the original theater trailer (the ONLY special feature/extra), it hadn't been cleaned up or anything. You could see the spots, flashes and fuzz flickers and hear the pops on the audio just like it was an old 16mm movie reel being run back in the 1970s in the theater. Go figure though, the trailer was full screen (like I wish the main feature itself was) ...

I've found that most of his movies since 007 are damn good. This collection shows the incredible talent and diversity of Sir Connery. This collection is worth every penny.

I have always loved Sean Connery and watch him in anything he does. He was great in Red October but he was excellent in First Knight. Hope he keeps making movies for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Filling in the gaps October 14, 2012
By winenut
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Although a fan of Sean Connery I had never acquired the other two films he made in addition to "Hunt for Red October." This allowed me to fill in the gaps in my collection, and at a bargain price. Good deal.
