Excellent overview of Sean Scully's work,
By
This review is from: Sean Scully: Retrospective (Hardcover)
For me the most important feature of an art book is the number, quality and choice of work reproduced. This book contains a large and varied selection of works, including drawings, photographs and paintings. The number of works and colour quality of the paintings reproduced is excellent.
About 80% of the book is reproductions of work, all of the paintings and coloured drawings are in colour, and most occupy the full page. There are three short essays by different authors, - "Sacred Sadness", "The possibility of Emotional Painting: Sean Scully's hidden narrative" and "The Spiritual Art of out Time" that explore the purpose and meaning of Scully's works.

Sean Scully: Retrospective
This is a wonderful insight into to the world of Sean Scully. Any fan of Scully's work will appreciate the beautifully finished coloured plates in this Thames & Hudson book. This book with over 200 images highlights Scully's familiar abstract gestural & geometrical styles in all media that covers his entire career from the 1970's to the present. |
