How does this work?
Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you interact with the simulated phone using your mouse and keyboard, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 — just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

wordoid!
See how many words you can find on the grid
wordoid!
Longer words result in higher scores

If you're a word person, you'll find wordoid! to be right up your alley. This fun, fast-moving word game for your Android device is easy to learn but hard to put down.

Build Words and Beat the Clock

Connect letters on a grid to create words--you'll receive new letters and earn points for every word you make. Wild card and bonus tiles add to the fun and help you boost your score. Race against the clock and see how many words you can create!

Long words earn more points than short ones, and working a bonus tile into your word will definitely give you a leg up--so it pays to be strategic. As with most word games, proper nouns and abbreviated or hyphenated words aren't allowed in wordoid!. That shouldn't be a problem, though, because there are plenty of words in the English language to choose from (and you know a whole lot of them!).

2.0 out of 5 stars Adult Ads October 16, 2011

The game is fun, but the adult ads are inappropriate. Wish I had known before I installed. I don't want my kids to play because of the ads and I don't like them either. Will be uninstalling and looking for a different game.

2.0 out of 5 stars Adult Ads Inappropriate for 9 year olds! October 25, 2011

Wordoid is fun and addictive, but the adult ads are annoying and inappropriate. Sadly there is no ad-free version, so I had to uninstall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flawed, But Fun, Challenging and Addicting January 27, 2012
It's odd that there don't appear to be many (good) games along the lines of Wordroid for the Android market, since there's definitely some potential in games like this that offer a more streamlined take on Scrabble, one that I'm more fond of.

The premise, gameplay and game itself are all very simple: One mode where you have 2 minutes to spell out words until you reach a certain number of points to reach the next "level." Once you hit a level, the 2 minutes are restored, meaning the challenge increases as you go on and earn more points. Words with 3 or more letters are accepted, with 3 letter words being worth 1 point, 4 letters yields 4 points and it increases from that. In other words, you'll want to spell out words with 4 or more letters each time. Some letters will also be highlighted to give extra points and you'll get the occasional spot with a question mark ("?"), which can be used for any letter and definitely helps when in a tight spot.

The game's shortcomings are that it's very bare bones in what you can do (again, just one mode), it has a tendency to give an absurd number of vowels as you go on and there's a good chance you'll find almost 1/3 of the entire board filled with the exact same letter. And when you're deep in the game with next to nothing but duplicates of the same vowels, you're pretty much left having to start over simply because of a lack of options. I'm not sure if the game can detect whether there are any possibilities, but there are points I seriously doubt it.

That said, the game is very addicting by nature. The permanently imposed time limit and gradual, increasing demand for more letters ensures that things remain challenging and interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive Fun! December 29, 2011

My favorite "time-wasting" app so far-and it's FREE! If you like word games, you'll enjoy this app but be warned, it really is hard to put down. You get used to the timer very quickly and it becomes a fun challenge to see if you can keep moving up to higher levels, which earns you a reset on the timer. Great brain exercise, and a good test of your vocabulary.

(Note: inn tribute too this awesome app, all the words inn this review are between three and seven letters) Once wee started playing Wordoid wee were all quickly hooked. Now all our Android devices inn the family have Wordoid, and wee all play about one hour oar more every day. The time limit can bee tough and shuffle would bee nice but overall five stars are inn order! High score still only 646 but I'll have more time too play over the holiday break. icy trees toast quick prunes!
