5.0 out of 5 stars Better fun for adults than for kids!
This video is informative and fun. It explores the life of Dr. Seuss and also acts out some of his best stories, including the Lorax, the Grinch and the Butter Battle. Robin Williams is great....like watching Mork from Ork read the Cat in the Hat. The star studded cast is impressive and the whole thing is very original. Adult Seuss fans might get more out of this video...

1.0 out of 5 stars Parents use caution - not for children
I am very disappointed and shocked by this video. I took it out from our public library with high hopes for my children who enjoy Dr. Seuss books. Mixed into this video of bits about different Dr. Seuss stories are images of swastikas, Nazi's and even Hitler. Apparently the author of Dr. Seuss books did a documentary during W.W. II and footage of it is included in this...

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertainment for all ages, October 3, 1999
By A Customer
I am a parent and a teacher. I bought this video a couple of years ago for my daughter. She was 1 1/2 at the time. At 3 1/2 it is still her favorite video. I take it extended family gatherings as a quiet time treat and even the teenagers find themselves enjoying quiet time with the little ones. My husband is in the military and took it to Bosnia. He says you haven't seen anything until you have seen a bunch of GIs singing Dr. Suess on a Saturday night. In school, I have used it for all ages with different angles. For older kids, it is a great biography of the struggles of successful writer and an example of how story ideas can be taken from life. For little kids, it is an introduction to the idea that there could be more to a story than what is on the page. I have almost worn out my copy and will probably need to buy a new one soon. A must buy for kids of all ages!

5.0 out of 5 stars A joy to watch., July 13, 1999
By A Customer
Watching this movie always puts me in a good mood. This is a great review of Suess's life and his stories. Informative and entertaining. A reporter goes to Suess's studio to learn more about Dr. Suess. While in the studio, she opens a book and is brought into a world were she meets characters from all our favorite Dr. Suess stories. Guided by the Cat in the Hat, she learns about Suess's life, and gets insight into his stories. I greatly enjoyed the sets and costumes, which were made to look like Suess's drawings. Seeing your favorite actor's in those costumes is also a treat (Christopher Lloyd, Patric Stewart, Robin Williams, Howie Mandell, and more). We see many video clips from the animated Dr. Suess stories included in the story line. I highly recommend this video!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific for all ages/ all levels, November 25, 1999
By A Customer
This is a terrific video! My kids (now 5 & 8) had borrowed this from the public library so many times, that we just HAD to buy a copy of our own! The mixture of song, dance, well-known actors and clips from the various animated movies inter-twined in the storyline of a journalist trying to get the "real" story on Dr. Seuss is all wonderful. My kids don't care much for the documentary sections, but that, too is well done and filled with a wealth of information and insight. I highly recommend this video.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'In Search of Dr. Seuss'-Dr. Seuss would have been proud!, August 6, 2000
A Kid's Review
I have always loved this movie, ever since my mom recorded it off the TV. I have been able to have fun watching a movie, meanwhile writing a biography on Theodore Seuss Geisel aka Dr. Seuss. Everybody knows Dr. Seuss: it's fun, funny, and amazingly simple. When I read it to my 8-year-old brother or my 3-year-old sister it's so much fun to see their faces when they hear of Things 1 & 2, or reading with your eyes shut(which they can do, since they memorized the books!), or an elephant hatching a bird's egg, and being able to truly laugh along with them, not pretending. This movie always cheers me up, makes me laugh, and helps me remember that life can be fun and games some of the time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating, fun and informative!, June 29, 1999
By A Customer
We purchased this video a little over a year ago and we still haven't tired of it. Our teenage son and daughter love it! Kathy Najimy and Matt Frewer are great as the reporter and the Cat in the Hat. The other guests, such as Patrick Stewart and Robin Williams, were priceless. This is a video for all ages. The children will enjoy the musical presentations of Dr. Seuss' timeless stories. The adults will enjoy learning about Dr. Seuss and his struggles to get his stories in print. Anyone who has grown up on Dr. Seuss stories will treasure this wonderful presentation of the man behind the name and his entertaining but informative stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Done, October 5, 2003

This review is from: In Search of Dr. Seuss (DVD)
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie when it was on TV. I am so glad to find out that the DVD will be out in time for Christmas. Not only did we enjoy our favorite stories and the wonderful actors and actresses, but we found out so many interesting facts about Ted Geisel himself. This prompted my now 13 year old to start studying this wonderful man on his own. We have purchased a biography about T.G. and have now sent several of the hard cover books as gifts to other children. I cannot tell everyone enough how much our family has enjoyed this movie...Great for adults as well as children!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Bio for the Family, January 2, 2006
This review is from: In Search of Dr. Seuss (DVD)
This originally aired on a cable channel, and my then 7 year old and I watched it and were enchanted. Today, it is still one of our favs (which is why I am getting the dvd--our video broke).
This contains excellent information on Dr. Seuss' life, including his childhood, and his work during WWII. My daughter (no in her teens) was so hooked that last year she did her biography research paper in history class on Dr. Suess. her classmates were astounded to learn about the man behind "The Cat in the Hat".
I have used this while babysitting kids (@age 7-10) and they loved it. Little kids probably couldn't follow it, or understand the historical portions.
While it may not be a perfect video for the preschool set, it is interesting, informative, and provides a facinating look at America's fav author for children. Here is a true hero for us all--someone who wanted to inspire children to reach for the stars, to learn more. Unlike so many of the"heros" that our kids have on thier bedroom walls (sports figures, musicians, actors), Dr. Seuss truly can be an inspiration for us all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Gold, June 27, 2005
I love this movie. My daughter loved it from the time she was five. Does it have some images of Hitler and Stalin? Yes, but they are used to reinforce the influence that anti-semitism had on Ted Giesel's life (Dr. Suess was Jewish). They were not overwhelming to my young child. They did however, provide an opening for us to discuss prejudice and tolerance. This movie has something for both children and adults. My daughter still watches this move and she is twelve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Video!, December 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: In Search of Dr. Seuss (DVD)
Arrived in great condition in less than the expected time. I watched this special on TV awhile back when it first came out for a Dr. Seuss celebration, but there were a lot more features in the program than what was included on this DVD. I kind-of gathered that when I purchased this product on Amazon, so I wasn't completely surprised or disappointed when I received it. I LOVE this film and how many Dr. Seuss stories it touches on!
