I gave this book two stars because there is some meta tag information and a basic overview of things. This guide is about 40ish pages long and nothing like the other SEO books I have seen. Very basic! Nothing in depth is really covered. Which you can't in 40 pages. He uses his personal website for the examples as a way of promoting his own website. My personal thinking is that this is meant to be an eBook to promote his own company. However, that being said. There is not much on anything...Universal search is not covered, Google Caffeine changes, Google Instant, or the Google Farmers update. Nothing recent is really covered which for a brand new book on SEO you would expect to find. I didn't feel it deserved 1 star but I do feel kind of tricked in a way based on its description.

Provides a well reasoned explanation of search engine optimization, in as easy to understand format that works for the beginner. A great place to start when analyzing your search engine rankings. Great for the Newbie

This was a great read. I already had some SEO experience, but was looking to bring my knowledge to the next level. I bought this book with the expectation that I would be learning more, understanding more and doing more of my own SEO with little or no research on the side. All of my expectations were fulfilled.

The book is awesome. It's not just for SEO "newbies", which was something I was a little worried about. There is also a website attached to the book that has a FAQ based on the chapters in the book, and also a list of the resources the author recommends. I used both of these, which were excellent and allowed me to ask any question I might have right there in the FAQ and get answers pretty quickly. Now THAT'S an edge over any other guide you'll see out there.

I would recommend this book to anyone, whether you are just starting SEO or you already have a bit of knowledge.

This book did the trick to fix my SE problems. I do wish that it explained things a little better. He goes right into how to do things, but gives little explanation to what the terms actually are or mean. Again I know a little and this book helped me fix things but its not the end all book on SEO

I'm relatively new to SEO practices and I've only read a few books on this subject thus far. I found the book difficult to follow as a beginner. The only thing I really found useful in this book was the cheat sheet that's included which does in fact have some useful information. An okay book, just not very useful to me.

If you're just getting into SEO I highly recommend this book. It's very clear and readable with simple to understand instructions on how to implement SEO on any website. But the real value comes from visiting the author's website where he hold's a Q&A/FAQ forum. Already on the first day after reading this book he has answered multiple, very specific SEO related questions that I was fully prepared to pay someone to answer.

This guide was exactly what I was looking for. I am a small business owner / entrepreneur. I wanted to find out how to optimize my business websites for the search engines (mainly Google). The book taught me everything I needed to know in a conversational manner. I am really confident now that I know what I am doing with SEO on my websites, and also why it works... If you're like me and don't need a big tech manual, this is the book you want. It's been only a few days since I optimized my websites based on this book, and I'm already seeing big improvements.

This book was such a huge help to me. I wanted to know all about search engine optimization and I wanted to know it fast. I suppose you could say that I NEEDED to know it fast, due to my job and my side business. Previously to finding this guide, I went to Barnes & Noble after work one day and bought two books on SEO. One seemed like it was written for people that were already experts. The other was so technical that it was like reading a foreign language. I gave up, felt stupid and didn't know how or where to start again.

Needless to say I found this guide and haven't looked back since. The author is conversational, helpful, and gives real world examples of not only how to do things in SEO, but why. He's also careful to explain what NOT to do.

This guide is more than just the sum of its parts. The author instructs the reader very early on to log on to his website (as an option) where I could read his frequently asked questions section that correspond with the chapters in the book and even ask my own questions. I was shocked to see that he responds to questions within hours. I couldn't have asked for a better learning experience. I could read the book on my Kindle wherever I was and then if I had questions, I just asked the author himself later when I got on my computer at home.

Looking back, I think I would still have rated this book five stars even if there was no website. Everything was covered, everything was explained simply. I enjoyed reading the book - it didn't really feel like a "tech manual" at all, which I appreciated given that I am not the most computer literate person in the world.

Thanks to this guide I feel confident in my SEO knowledge and have already done SEO on my own website. Overall, it's a great and amazingly helpful guide. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly!

I didn't know anything at all about SEO other than the acronym before I read this book... and now I feel like I'm conversant and maybe even a little savvy!

I was nervous about reading it, simply because I've had bad tech manual experiences before... I find that either tech manuals talk down to the reader and assume that they're a complete idiot, or the manuals speak in their own technical language that is almost impossible for a layman to understand.

This is NOT the case with this manual! Christopher Nelson's "Search Engine Optimization: Do It Yourself" is easy and fun to read! I never thought that learning about SEO could be enjoyable... I was fully expecting a laborious and tedious read... but I even found myself laughing sometimes!

The BEST part is that after putting down the book (which I read surprisingly quickly!) I felt like I had enough knowledge of what to do and what not to do... and how to employ it on my website myself! Immediately! Wow!

I'm not an idiot, and I was pleased to have a straight-forward account of SEO. I even learned some technical jargon! Christopher Nelson was really good about explaining the terms.

I feel like I now know what to do and how to succeed in implementing SEO for my website... and if I have questions, the author is completely willing to help! Who does that? I'm completely pleased with my purchase. I've already recommended this book to my friends.

I was sort of nervous that the book would tell me to use a lot of HTML coding, which, although I have some experience with, I'm not completely proficient in... but Christopher Nelson was wonderful about making sure that those of us who are not well versed in HTML know what to do. I didn't expect that. I was pleasantly surprised.

This is truly a guide for all - those who have a little bit of knowledge, those who don't have any prior knowledge, and while I wouldn't call myself an expert, I'm pretty sure that even people who have some experience with SEO could stand to learn a thing or two from Christopher Nelson!

Easy-to-read with invaluable, detailed information on how you can optimize your site. It was so well written that I couldn't put it down. I feel very good about the basic how to's of SEO. If you were like me and needed that extra little something to get you rolling with SEO, then this is it!!
