I read this book with active interest as we are currently undergoing the process of adopting in Ukraine. It is also a coincidence that the facilitator/translator is the same one that we are using, so I found this a great reference for his work. The daily account of Kevin and Ginger's experience gave a perfect insight into the emotional rollercoaster of international adoption, and a truly revealing account of life in Ukraine. Reading this book was ideal for the mental and physical preparation we need for our own quest.

My wife and I are just beginning an independent adoption through Ukraine. This book was perfect for us because it gave us a very good idea of the process as experienced first-hand by the Carlisles. Their journey of adoption is emotional and touching. Ukraine is unique in international adoptions because adoption agencies from other countries cannot represent clients in Ukraine. Many adopting couples work through the Ukrainian adoption process "independently" and this is what we are choosing to do. This is also what the Carlisles did and it was helpful to follow their story and learn how the actual process unfolds and what some of the obstacles are. We are very happy for the Carlisles and their new family and are thankful that they have shared their story for those who will follow in their footsteps.
