Have been a fan for about 30 years now and have every album so i guess i am a bit bias , but this album is cool . Like the last 2 albums they are back to a heaver sound from the past except for a few tracks . I thought the track pennsylvania blues was one of the strangest quo songs ive ever heard at first but now i really love it , they still rock

They're Back!!!!,

I am actually stunned by how good this cd is. I go back 30+ years as a fan and I think this is better than anything since On The Level or Blue For You. Quo has been good but uneven since. Then came the Heavy Traffic cd which was good AND consistant but lacked grit.
Pip Williams' production is so evident that after the first listen I was thinking "Where's the songs?". On a second listen I realized the songs were not only there but as good as ever. I had just been distracted by the "cajones infusing" hard edge production by Williams. While songs like "Alright" and "Hold Me" are boogie throwbacks to the 70's, it's the pounding "Bad News" and guitar assault of "Gravy Train" that sets In Search of the Fourth Chord apart from the last 30 years. Even the two slower songs, "Electric Arena" and "Tongue Tied" are pretty good. But by far my favorite song is the harmonica, piano, blues-based romp "I Ain't Wasting My Time." The two things I can say about this cd is that it gets better with every listen and "Welcome back boys!"

I have been listening to Quo since Pictures of Matchstick Men, I just located this new music, I love it. Status Quo is a great band, simple, rockin'n'rollin, loud, & always good at a party. I'm lovin this new cd, if U ever liked anything of theirs, U'll love this cd, like all bands, older, more experienced serves them well. But honestly it's worth it.

Status Quo - Still Rocking After 30 Years,

Status Quo are a band that have pretty much been a United Kingdom only phenomenon. They have been around for more than 30 years, but never made much of a dent in the United States. In fact I don't think I had ever even heard a Status Quo song prior to purchasing this album. I took the plunge, on this their most recent studio album, after reading rave reviews for it in Classic Rock magazine and on the internet. I am happy to say that the album lives up to the hype and is a very good boogie rock n roll record. Highlights include "Beginning Of The End", "Pennsylvania Blues", "Electric Arena", and the rocking "Gravy Train". The last third of the album falls off a bit, and songs like "Saddling Up" may inspire you to hit the skip button, but overall this is a strong record. This is my very first Status Quo purchase and it definitely makes me want to explore more of the band's catalogue.

Let me first say that I was NOT ever a fan of Status Quo. Why? Well,to start with,I'm here in the US,and admittedly-the band never caught on here. Just check their catalog and you'll find that ALL of their releases are imports over here. This doesn't mean that I was never 'aware' of the band, tho. I was always under the impression that they were a 'blues/boogie' band that was rather under-whelming and, dare I say-boring. Recently, I got a 'best of'07'cd from Classic Rock magazine (a British mag, I believe),and the first track is 'Beginning Of The End'. I thought-WOW! I'd better investigate further. Well, I listened to the samples of all the tunes on their website, and had to order a copy immediately! Folks-let me be frank here: If you can listen to music like this and not want to 'shake your bum', then you'd better have them call the mortician to come get you! This is stand up,knock-down,dirty boogie-in',take no prisoners blues rock! Bloody fantastic stuff! Order a copy right now,or miss out BIG time. This one belongs in your collection. The only danger is that you may not be able to get it OUT of your disc player! LOL Cheers and enjoy! T

"In Search of the Fourth Chord" is an excellent album.
All tracks are new; with Rhino doing a lead vocal track. Amazon did their usual great job and I received the CD quickly and with no fuss.

Status Quo Still Rock After 40 Years,
By
This review is from: In Search of the Fourth Chord (Audio CD)
On IN SEARCH OF THE FOURTH CHORD, Status Quo continue the sound of their rocking 70s peak, once again with Pip Williams producing. Of course, no new ground is broken here, but that hardly matters. The band has proven, like American band the Outlaws, that they can play the same sounds as always and not sound like a self-parody. Although neither Francis Rossi nor Rick Parfitt can match the technical skills of the Outlaws' Hughie Thomasson, Billy Crain, or Chris Anderson, as far as guitar playing is concerned, their ability to carry on the basic Chuck Berry sound and style creates an infectious boogie that is differentiated from most other hard rock/heavy metal by the fact that the vocals actually sound like voices of reason rather than the high-on-Java styles of people like Eddie Vedder or Vince Neil. Moreover, the fact that the band supports efforts to free people jailed in countries not their own makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

In Search of the Fourth Chord being their most recent album and their 2007 release is a straight forward rock album with lyrics that have the same flavour. One single was released from this album,i.e., "Begining of The End". The booklet is a hoot and pays a tribute to all the Indiana Jones movies. All the lyrics are included and we get a list of whom plays what on the album. I did not expect a different sound so bearing in mind this it is a fairly good album with a standar rock sound. 3/5.

Oh Yeah !,

For 10 months I thought, 2007 would be the worst year in regards to new album releases. Then Bruce Springsteen released the fantastic album 'Magic' and now Quo double up with the incredible 'In Search of the Fourth Chord'.
They made us Quo fans wait for 23 years, until they finally release an album that rocks from beginning to the end (with only one exception : `Tongue Tied'). Pip Williams' production is solid, and their sound is rougher again (compared to the last couple of album.). Rhino's vocals on 'Bad News' are another plus ! If you thought 'Heavy Traffic' was a great album, then rest assured, that this one will blow HT out of the water. To be fair, the album should actually only get 4 stars, since their classic releases from the 70's and 80's remain still a notch above the current Quo sound. However, this album is way above anything that Quo has released in the last 23 years, or for that matter, anybody has put out in 2007 (besides Bruce Springsteen). My favorite track is `I Don't Wanna Hurt You Anymore' which is a typical Quo rocker - but again, there is no weak track on this album. The only complaint I have, is the album cover. I wish Quo would drop the 'funny' stuff, and put a picture of the whole band on the sleeve - something like the first Ramones album, something that tells you, that this album will `Rock your Socks Off' ! . |
