Book Description

June 1, 2009
A distinctive and incomparable collection from "Mighty" Mike McGee, the class clown of spoken word and poetry slam's geek champion. This debut includes his most notable performance poems, stories, humorous anecdotes and how-to's. This handbook moves between serious love tomes, like "Open Letter to Neil Armstrong" and "Every Day," to his most irreverent and requested works, like "Puddin'" and "Like." A true road-dog, McGee travels with words and camera, many results of which are captured in this collection. The humor contained in these pages are a campfire on a lonely winter night, the poetry - a reason to shout about love.

Review

Man, you are hilarious! - Sinbad, Comedian

Mike McGee is a ventrical revolutionary. His poems speak directly to our blood. Intimate, funny and deeply touching, this book reflects his generous and loving spirit. He is a poet that everyone should have on their shelf and in their lives. -Amber Tamblyn, actor/activist/”Bang Ditto”

Mike McGee is the funniest man I know. For two years straight I have begun laughing in the middle of a meditation course at the mere thought of him, approaching me with that knowing warmth and love ... -Buddy Wakefield, "Live for a Living"

5.0 out of 5 stars Handbook of Awesome Indeed, May 29, 2011
This review is from: In Search of Midnight: The Mike McGee Handbook of Awesome (Paperback)
Mighty Mike McGee's "In Search of Midnight" is a standout classic in the world of poetry, Mr. McGee is a natural performer and that carries directly to the page in this volume of some of the most slap you in the face poetry that you will ever read. This book laughs with you, it cries with you, and sometimes it gets all sexy on you(especially in the poem "Puddin". A really wonderful addition to any poetry collection, order it, seriously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yum, May 22, 2011
This review is from: In Search of Midnight: The Mike McGee Handbook of Awesome (Paperback)
Mike McGee helped me discover my profound love of life and poetry. I heard him live and thought, "I don't know if a book of poems can capture his incredible voice and impeccable comedic timing." IN SEARCH OF MIDNIGHT blew my expectations out of the water! His voice is embedded in every line; in and in between every word. In addition to many of his spoken word standards, THE MIKE MCGEE HANDBOOK OF AWESOME includes Mike's job resume (hell yeah), some poignant little factoids (scrabble stuff), and his lesser known, yet extremely awesome, poems that split my heart with tears similar to the way he splits my sides with laughter. I like him like...well you'll just have to read it :) SERIOUSLY!!! This is the new generation of poetry; the future of words. If you love life or hate life, if you love/hate words, NAY, if you DEVOUR words like bacon cheeseburgers, or if, perhaps, you enjoy pineapple, then this is the book for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A pocketful of awesome., January 24, 2012
This review is from: In Search of Midnight: The Mike McGee Handbook of Awesome (Paperback)
Mike McGee makes poetry fun again. It's impossible not to feel good about life with this book in your hands. McGee will make you laugh harder than you thought you could, but my favorite thing about his poems is their ability to make me feel good about being human. McGee carves a niche for himself with In Search for Midnight, his first full-length collection. As hard as it is to believe, McGee found a way to channel his larger-than-life stage presence into his written work - it literally jumps off the page and begs to be read aloud. Personal favorites include Mycrophone, Dirty Dimes and Dear Neil Armstrong.

One of the coolest things about this book is its refusal to cater to traditional structure. Poems are interspersed with advice on being awesome, making this the perfect handbook for poets and geeks alike.
