5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating story, excellent book
This book is an absolute must-read for anyone interested in ancient Egypt, reincarnation, astral travel, transpersonal psychology, or even if you want to read a fascinating, mysterious love story over eons of time!

1.0 out of 5 stars This lady is nuts
Good lord where to begin, first of all, Omm Sety doesn't mean a damn thing, Mother of Sety would be "Mut Sety" the innacuracies don't end there. As far as I know there were no "Temple Virgins" in Abydos, otherwise known as Abdju. Had there been a love affair between Seti and a woman, even a 14 year old (people didn't live as long back then 14 year old...

(REAL NAME)
This book is an absolute must-read for anyone interested in ancient Egypt, reincarnation, astral travel, transpersonal psychology, or even if you want to read a fascinating, mysterious love story over eons of time!

Dorothy Eady, a 3-year old child in England, suffers a fall on some stairs in her home and is pronounced dead by a doctor. She probably has a near-death experience, though this is not claimed in the book. When she regains consciousness, it is as if her current personality has been merged wih the personality (purportedly) of a previous incarnation she had as a temple virgin in Abydos, Egypt. Bentreshyt, her name in that incarnation, had a short-lived affair with Sety the First (father of the famous Ramses II), and became pregnant at the tender age of fourteen. Forced into a confession by the temple priests, Bentreshyt then committed suicide.

Dorothy, just as the central character in "The Wizard of Oz," becomes fixated in finding her true self, and thus spends the rest of her life obsessed with ancient Egypt. She eventually lives in Cairo for 20 years, working in the Antiquities Depaartment, and then moves to Abydos, where she lives for the rest of her life, working at the same Temple of Sety where she had lived 3,000 years before.

Now called Omm Sety, which simply means "Mother of Sety" (she has a son during a short-lived marriage to an Egyptian), Dorothy makes significant contributions to Egyptology as an expert draftsman, writer, and scholar, as well as healing and aiding the local villagers in her "external life." Yet her "internal" life is one that few if any people could ever match! To put it very briefly, she has many meetings, both on the physical and astral planes, with her soulmate, Sety the First.

I will leave it to anyone who reads this review to get the book for the incredible details. The writing and the telling of the story are excellent from beginning to end. The epilogue is also a very stimulating, mostly psychological discussion of such "occult" issues as reincarnation, the nature of the astral body, astral projection, remote viewing, even Shelldrake's morphogenic fields, and more!

Get this book from your library if it is out of stock, as was shown here when I added this review.

I have to give this book 5 stars, only because when I first read it I felt that sweet Dorothy Eady (Omm Sety) was a kindred spirit. I completely connected with her heart felt love for Ancient Egypt. I am in the process of re-reading this book after 16 years. It lifts my spirits and intrigues me still. I can remember as a child of 7 the enormous flood of emotion when I first saw pictures of Egypt in the encyclopedia. I felt (as Dorothy experienced in the British Museum at the age of 4) that I had once again found my long lost friends and my true "home".I recommend this book for anyone interested in reincarnation, spirituality, astral travel, Egyptian History....or even if you would just like something interesting to read. This book really has the power to transport you to another place & time.

5.0 out of 5 stars extraordinary love story of 3000 year old link to egypt, February 1, 1997

This review is from: Search for Omm Sety (Paperback)
Jonathan Cott tells his own story of discovering the life of Omm Sety, a twentieth century woman who devoted her entire life to a love affair that began 3000 years ago with the Pharaoh Seti 1. The story is firmly planted in the present but presents a relationship to the past which is as intriguing as it is informative. In reading this book, I learned of a remarkable englishwoman named Omm Sety, a great deal of egyptian history and archaeology, as well as an intriguing glimpse of twentieth century Egypt. Yoko Ono recommends this book and I can understand why, as it speaks to collapsing the barriers we usually experience in our relationship with time, and loss through death. If you experience curiosity on any of the topics I have mentioned you will not be able to put this book down

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK if you love Egypt!, August 4, 2003

I had the luck to find this wonderful and EXCELLENT book about an English woman who has an ancient soul-in Egypt! I read parts of this book all the time. This book is special to me in that I love Egypt and the people who made it thousands of years ago. Omm Sety (Dorothy Eady) will tell you her experiences with her lover, Sety I. There is factual material on Abydos and the temples of Osiris (the Osirion). Any information you want about King Sety I that you will not find anywhere else, is included here. It is co-written by Hanny El Zeini, an Egyptologist, who owned his own company in Egypt. Omm Sety has extensive knowledge about hyroglyphics and Egyptian temples. I love this book most because it brought out a long ago memory of a love I once had, a forbidden one (tee-hee). Buy this book, or at least, check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars You can tell its a good book when..., December 22, 2006
Search for Omm Sety is one of the most interesting and perplexing books I've read in a long time. Its a good read; however sometimes you may find yourself taking a leap of faith when Omm Sety describes her relationship with the spirit world. I consider myself to be a spiritual person, and this book had me saying "hunh????" more than a few times.

Somehow I got the idea in my head before purchasing it, that this book was a fictious romance dealing with true love spanning time and crossing the boundries of death. It isn't. Its a biography about a very real woman who was an eccentric and lived her life by her own terms. She just had visitations from her dead lover, the Pharaoh Sety.

When I was in college we were taught to never judge a book until we've read the entire thing. Then you can praise or bash it.

I don't feel I can do either here. I would only recommend this book to a very select few people. Such as those who are interested in past lives and those who really love Ancienct Egypt and Archaeology.

You can always tell if a book is "good" because it leaves you with questions and the story line stays strong in your mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars I believe, May 15, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Search for Omm Sety (Paperback)
Omm Sety's story. I believe that no matter how fantastic it may seem to some people, its all true and really happened.I bought this book because of the spirit lover aspect because that is something, that I'm always hunting for information about, but the rest of the story drew me in as well.It also give you a personal feel for what it must have been like to live in that part of the world 3,000 years ago.
Even if you don't believe in reincarnation or spirit lovers, you will probably enjoy this book for the information about Ancient Egypt, and all spirituality aside, it is one interesting story.
This is one of the best books I have ever read and this story will stay with me a very long time.I encourage anyone to check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Homecoming!, July 7, 2005

This review is from: Search for Omm Sety (Paperback)
Having briefly heard her story, 20 odd years ago, it never left me.Only regret, having not come across the book sooner. I enjoyed turning every page and absorbing every word. Whether her story is a truth spanning the centuries or a lovely dream of a deeply feeling and intelligent woman, it makes us question our own existance. And really, there is nothing wrong in opening up questions we always wanted to ask but never have. I like to think there is more to our existance than we can actively see, touch, smell or taste. It's been a pleasure to finally get to know Dorothy Eady/Omm Sety, even if it is through the words of others. I can only hope as she passed over that her homecoming was all she dreamt.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Search for Omm Sety; A Story of Eternal Love, December 17, 1999
This review is from: Search for Omm Sety (Paperback)
A fantastic book. Full of history, archaeological finds, love. It encompasses all levels of spirituality and would be enjoyable to those who are open minded spiritually rather than the cynics!. I have read it 3 times now and will be presented beautifully together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating book, June 7, 2007
This review is from: Search for Omm Sety (Paperback)
Eccentric, talented, apparently gifted in the ways of ancient magic and highly knowledgable and able in the field of Egyptology, Dorothy Eady was a person worth reading about. She is held up as an example of believable reincarnation, but whether or not you believe in such things, her story is a fascinating read.

I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in biography or Egyptology, or, of course, reincarnation.
