There are very few English language, scholarly books, on the subject of The Pied Piper. Radu Florescu's book is well written and very informative. The account of his personal visit to Hamelin provides interesting reading, and the book is extensive in its' research. The only other work I know available on this subject is Wolfgang Mieder's book. Each book is a great companion for the other.
