The Kilgore Story,
By A Customer
This review is from: Search for Reason (Audio CD)
Hi, These guys are good friends of mine. When they first started they came out with a cassette tape in 1993 then they were called Smudge, It had ten killer tracks on it. Then in 1994 they came out with another cassette tape. The band changed there name to Stain, this had six great tracks on it. Then they were signed to Warner Brothers Unsound Records. This Cd was called Blue Collar Solitude, changed there name to Kilgore Smudge, Took some songs from both cassettes and wrote some new ones for the record Label. The songs that were rejected are killer songs but weren't good enough for the record company. (I have enough rejected songs to do another Cd.) Then they came out with the second cd again changing there name to Kilgore, The Cd was called A Search For Reason. the band was sounding great they went on tour on the Ozzy fest. They did a cover song called Walk on a ECW cd in the USA and a different cover on the Japan ECW cd called Black Dog. They did a couple of videos for Hangtime and Walk. Then the singer quit the band for stupid reasons. So Kilgore did a five song demo with a new singer and it sounded good. The record Label didn't like it. The band couldn't find a singer so they broke up. But keep in touch.. A great band gone.

Kilgore is a totally original band that seamlessly meshes heavy grinding guitars with harmony. You really gotta check them out! You'll love it!

A tragic Loss,
This review is from: Search for Reason (Audio CD)
I remember this album from back int he day when it first came out. i bought it and thought it was amazing! Its heavy and catchy and totally relevant to the metal scene today. For some reason i got rid of this cd years ago. Having just picked it up again i cant believe i let it go! Buy this! BUY THIS NOW! This album has not dated at all! Kilgore were an awesome band and have more than a little in common with bands of today like "Soil". Heavy tunes, catchy chorus's and a unique sound!

from start to finish, this album is one helluva release. it's yer basic meat n' potatoes, with killer riffage and nice production. had to snag my own copy upon hearing it in my bud's car stereo. instant fave.

I bought this album after hearing them do a cover of Pantera's "Walk" on the ECW album. I'm glad I did. It's one of the best albums I've bought in a while. Pick it up, You'll be glad you did.

Some damn heavy guitars!,

In a world full of sub-par metal acts, its nice to see Kilgore living up to some standards. Jay Berndt's singing ranges from raging (Steamroller) to melodic (Providence). Heavy guitars provide everything for a headbanger, and the drums and bass provide a solid groove.

Excellent metal with variety, good lyrics, awesome singer,
This review is from: Search for Reason (Audio CD)
Whoa! These guys know what metal is all about. Then they take out all the stupid nonsense lyrics and pack the songs with real lyrics. Jay's voice ranges from a scary growl to a soothing baritone. They also play with variety; some songs really fast and some slow. AND - They stick it to MTV. Always nice to hear in a song. Don't miss their first album "Blue Collar Solitude" under Kilgore Smudge. It rocks too!

I would love to be the singer for this band,

I picked up this album when it came out and it was pretty good. This was my first hardcore album. I started screaming and singing to get in with the sound. I remember when they were looking for a new singer but I never tried out for them. If they would get back together I would love to try out. This album is what hardcore is all about catchy riffs and heavy cords.

How are these guy not giants?,

It's amazing a top rate rock act like Kilgore has not hit the big time. Talanted, powerful, melodic, intense... these qualities seem to matter less and less as bands like Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit, who jump on every current fad, and who no one will remember next year, sell like hot cakes. If you like Faith No More, Foo Fighters, Tool, or any other of the quality rock bands...these guys are for you.
