The textbook on Biblical self-worth.,
By
This review is from: The Search for Significance (Paperback)
Robert Mc Gee has written what I consider the definitive textbook on Biblical self-worth. You will learn God's system of value compared to the world's system. Instead of finding our value through possessions, performance and other people's opinions of us, we can base our value on our intrinsic worth through creation and redemption. Practical daily application tools are also provided. This is a wonderful book for those battling with significance issues, which are the root of a myriad of negative behaviors and mental disorders.

Life-Changing Book,
By betsy2323@aol.com (Tennessee) - See all my reviews

I read this book when I was in a psychiatric hospital for depression and an eating disorder. I don't know if I would have made it out without this book. I learned how much the opinions of others DON'T count and how much God's opinion does count...and I actually belive it!

See Yourself As God Sees You!,
By Michael Taylor "Michael Taylor" (Indian Trail NC) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Search for Significance (Paperback)
McGee has written an excellent book (contrary to what some reviewers say) about obtaining significance in life through Jesus Christ (what He did for us and Who He is) instead of through our fleshly effort and the fickle approval of others.Among the points McGee covers in the book include: 1. The abundant life does not mean a problem-free life. Yes, despite the pain and pressure in our lives, we can and do have a hope in Jesus Christ! Read the book and be encouraged to focus on Jesus instead of yourself or others, to get your self-worth and significance. Highly recommended!

A great resource for understanding what makes us tick,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Search for Significance (Paperback)
"Search for Significance" is a very good book in which "the four false beliefs" that really affect our core being are brought to light. This book is informative and has the potential to be life changing if you can handle the shocking realizations that come along with learning some of this new information about one's core beliefs. This book reveals the some of the fundamental core beliefs that I many times unknowingly practice with poor results. A very thought provoking book and one which I highly value and treasure. Definitely a good read for those that want to pursue their journey towards wholeness and healing! I'd also highly recommend another one of his books called: "Father Hunger" as it was a great inspiration and resource as well.

A must if you struggle with clinical depression,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Search for Significance (Paperback)
I thought I had tried it all when it comes to a Christian approach to treating depression only to be utterly disappointed when Christian books and counselors reduced the problem to something it wasn't. My problem wasn't being sad about circumstances in my life or unresolved sin in my life. My problem was thoughts that were so uncontrollable and dangerous that I felt like I had a beast taking over my head. Not being able to capture my thoughts was what led to the depression and suicidal thoughts.During the process of seeing non-Christian counselors and psychiatrists to jump through the hoops for my insurance, I learned of cognitive therapy. I tried it, but it was very self-focused and all about self-love. The Search For Significance is the Christian version of cognitive therapy, in my opinion. It works because it teaches us how to break the patterns of false thoughts and replace them with true thoughts that we can actually believe in and that don't fail. I was able to reduce my dosage of medication significantly after going through this book and have been stable at the lower dosage for a year now. I am feeling strong enough to try a small decrease again in the near future and hopefully again & again after that. It is very hard work and you must be dedicated and focused to learn the principles and tools to change your patterns of thought. It is so challenging that when I tried to do it before going on the meds, I couldn't handle it or absorb it. Once you get the tools down, then it is hard work to keep practicing them and keep from slipping into the old patterns. This is a book that you will pick up over and over again. I agree with the other reviewer that chapter 3 on salvation was a bit slow. But I feel that it is very needed and purposeful. After all, how could this book be recommended to non-Christians without that chapter since the whole premise of the book is realizing your true identity in Christ?

By A Customer
This review is from: The Search for Significance (Paperback)
I first encountered "The Search for Significance" as a high schoolstudent who was depressed and suicidal. I recognized myself in itimmediately! The author discusses how any of four basic false beliefs influence people's lives and contribute to mental illness. The workbook is very thorough as well, especially for people who want to take a spiritual approach to their emotional problems.

This Book Changed My Life,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Search for Significance: Workbook (Paperback)
This book changed my life. After I had a nervous breakdown several years ago I read so many self-help books, had years of therapy, etc. but it wasn't until I read this book and came to understand the four false beliefs that were suffocating me, that I REALLY began to recover. Everyone should read this book. Get the workbook if you can, and do the exercises. You won't regret it. Money well spent!

in the fall of 1997 i was placed in lakeside behavioral health hospital in memphis, tn due to what i term a breakdown. i placed myself in the RAPHA, that is, Christ-centered treatment program, and this book was used for our lessons. i absolutely recommend this book to everyone struggling with hard, seemingly overwhelming issues, especially related to self esteem and self worth. you will be amazed at your progress as you read, study and use the lessons in this book. it's life-affirming and refreshing; God does love me, and because of Him, i truly am deserving of good.

Very inspiring book written for ones suffering down spirits.,

This review is from: The Search for Significance (Paperback)
This book is recommended to me by a female psychiatrist when i was in college. The workbook provides good practical materials for self-counselling. I can always be alleviated from my mental torment by reminding myself happiness is not based on four widely believed but not true tenets: 1. performance/standard 2. being accepted 3. can't fail 4. can't change, as mentioned in McGee's book.

Excellent guide to a deeper spirituality for those searching,
By Cathy S (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Search for Significance (Paperback)
While looking for a book that would be a guide in my search for regaining spirituality in my life, I stumbled upon "The Search for Significance" It turned out to be just what I was looking for. It touches on all our innermost desires for finding significance in our daily lives. We, as a people, hunger for recognition that we "are" worth something and in McGee's book, we are led along the path to finding the significance within ourselves. I would recommend it for anyone searching for significance in their own lives.
