5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless Trance from Tiësto
In Search of Sunrise is remarkable. Track after track the sweetness just refuses to leave me alone. The opening is epic and makes me get goosebumps. Tiësto has a made a powerhouse of an album. This CD is ridiculously satisfying to drive to. Oh man, Tiësto is just the man. Calling Your Name is bliss. All of the Sunrises and all of the Magiks must be heard. But this one...

3.0 out of 5 stars just get summerbreeze instead
I bought Tiesto's "Summerbreeze" album a while back and it is still one my favorite trance CDs to date. I bought this CD after seeing the rave reviews others gave it, only to be somewhat dissapointed. This CD has several of the same tracks on it as "Summerbreeze"... only different mixes. The ones that weren't on "Summerbreeze", I have heard...

But this one -this is absolute essential trance. No one can top this.

Best Tracks on this CD:
Reachers of Civilisation is an epic opening
Calling Your name - INSTANT CLASSIC
Honey - BEAUTIFUL
Time Gate - Instant Classic!!!
Mercury and Solace - ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? - CLASSIC!!!
Dark Blue - YES! Takes the mix somewhere else!

Going Up - Legitimately takes the mix to the next stage...

I must admit that when I first played this I began to worry that it would turn into typical techno drivel so common today. Y'know, get a bit going on a drum machine, throw in a few keyboard riffs, some angelic divas singing and call it "trance".

But I gave it a chance (I'm listening to it now). I see what all the fuss is about. Tiesto obviously knows his game. Just when it seems as if he's about to let the music go nowhere he drops in a surprise or two.

Sure you'll find the best of trance - the spooky keyboards, the ethereal voices, the obligatory happy sound - but he makes it work so that it doesn't sound like the big cheese that techno has become (y'know silly kids with Day-Glo and whistles). No, this is really good stuff with a beautiful title that really sums it up.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent mix, September 9, 2000

Dj Tiesto weaves an excellent melodic experience in this thirteen song, sixty-four minute opus by one of the trance scene's best djs. Tracks like York's "The Reachers of Civilization" and Marc Vision "Time Gate" help bring to this album an ethereal atmosphere and lay down an rhythm and beat that's nothing short of infectious. On the other hand, I'd have to say this work is slightly marred by weaker tracks like Billy Ray Martin's "Honey", which has a strong vocal component that - while certainly welcome - doesn't quite pull through for me. The vocals distract from, rather than add to, the overall feeling of the album. Take note, though, that the opinion on the vocals is certainly mine only, and that you might feel completely differently. To each his own, but I feel that it's a part of Tiesto's mix I should mention.

Another thing is that I'd like to take some issue with the reviewers that say they've been throwing away their "Paul van Dyk and ATB cds" after hearing this disc. While I feel that both Paul van Dyk and ATB are excellent DJs (though ive heard less of ATB's mixing), their published work consists mainly of original productions, which you can't really compare to a mixed album like Tiesto's. So to be fair, my own position on this, is that I love them all, and when I'm dancing under the sky, smiling like theres no tomorrow, such comparisons are rendered irrelevant.

Enjoy the disc, I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars In search of Tiesto..., June 29, 2000
This review is from: In Search of Sunrise (Audio CD)
This trance compilation is truly reminiscent of what an incredible beach-side sunrise set on Ibiza might sound like. Tiesto combines his magical mixing skills with tracks that will stir your deepest emotion and elevate your spirit into bliss - even if you're sitting in your car while listening to it - I don't think I've ever heard a compilation quite like it.

Easily ranks among the best compilations I've ever heard, not only for selection and placement, but for his artistry and skill at weaving the tracks together. It's one of those albums you'll listen to again and again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tranceport lovers call here, December 7, 2004

Next to Paul Oakenfold's Tranceport I have to say that DJ Tiesto has something almost as great as it and this is the album that makes an accelerating attempt to compete with that masterwork of trance. Don't even read to the bottom of this review if you loved Tranceport. Just buy it or click the samples above. You'll love it.

Although some of Tiesto's work is not that appealing since the release of In Search of Sunrise the same can be said of Oakenfold, but when they are good, they are the hottest trance on the planet and here Tiesto is A+ fab.

Other reviewers have noted how there is a great buildup that suddenly transforms into something even better and that it just keeps getting better towards the end like Tranceport does. That is exactly what this album does.

This is electronica trance through and through. Traces of its techno heritage are evident from the end of the 90s, but it still has it for all those that remember.

Timeless trance that after the bang does not go out. Cherish it.

5.0 out of 5 stars You MUST have this - Simply the best uplifting Trance., March 23, 2003
This review is from: Search of Sunrise 1 (Audio CD)
Superb! Every song fits, and there are NO 'filler' songs.

Tiesto's music has become more edgy, but this earlier work, is true Uplifting Trance at its magnificent best. Nothing Progressive or Hard here.
Great for driving, doing chores, or even entertaining. To me, this is the best of the ISOS series, followed closely by ISOS 2. I bought Paul Van Djk's Politics of Dancing and was disappointed. But, that suits some people. This CD takes you on a wonderful journey, massaging your senses with beautiful synthesizer sounds. And it ends triumphantly with Sparkles. If this song doesn't leave you feeling good, nothing will.

If you ever doubted that the best Uplifting Trance comes from Holland, here is absolute proof!

Wow. I got this album a few weeks ago because I am such a big fan of DJ Tiesto and his work. Right now I own Summerbreeze, Magik 1,2,5,6,7 and now In Search of Sunrise 1 which are all superb! Tiesto is simply the best DJ out there when it comes to trance. He puts Oakey to shame. Pretty much this album is ESSENTIAL (that means that any tiesto fan MUST have this) for all melodic trance lovers. Remember the timeless sounds of 1998 trance? This is it. The track selection couldn't be better. DJ Tiesto's mixing, as always, can be considered flawless.
Beginning with The Reachers of Civilization, the cd takes on a mysterious air with simply guitar riffs but soon progresses into quality melodic trance which is not cheesy. I was simply blown away with DJ Tandu's remix of "I Believe", a track I had previously thought corny of a cheese like consistency. Tiesto truly knows what he's doing better than any other DJ out there. Among other highlight tracks on this CD are the classics Honey (Chicane Mix), BT's Mercury and Solace (one of the greatest chill out tracks ever), and Tiesto's own Sparkles. This CD really takes you on a timeless journey, that you'll want to experience over and over again.
At first, I was a little hesitant to buy this cd because of many of the same tracks on Summerbreeze, but most are different versions more suitable for the atmosphere of this mix. Well, I think its time I stop writing so you can go and order this cd right now.

Other good DJ's
MARCO V. what else to say, he is the man!
PvD excellent trance from Germany... respectz!
Oakey- used to be great!
Rank 1- more Dutch trance! Such is Life is beautiful

Hard trance:
must check out trance[]control
addictive! : )

In electronic music there are a few CD's in each genre that stand out as being all time classics. Progressive House has Renaissance by Sasha and Digweed, Drum n Bass has 97 Octane by Dieselboy, and Trance has In Search of Sunrise Vol. 1. Tiesto is perfect in showing off how good trance CAN be, when producers and DJ's actually put as much work into each song like the tracks on this disc. This CD alone should put Tiesto on everyones top 10 list of DJs. If you are even the slightest fan of trance music, do yourself a favor and buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not miss out on this CD, no matter who you are, July 18, 2001

Tiesto's mixing skills broke into the US market about last year, when he specifically targetted his "Summerbreeze" Mixed CD to the US audience.

A few months before the US hype, and a few months after Tiesto (Tijs Verwest) has reached ultimate fame playing the "Innercity" party in Amsterdam, He has decided to travel Ibiza for the entire summer season. Tiesto found a whole new entrancing sound in the lower BPM section, and decided to give that sound the Tiesto twist. The results were amazing.

This CD is for everyone. People who know Tiesto's style, People who never heard of him, even people who never took a shot at listening to Trance. The sound that Tiesto weaves from playing the very first track takes you on an amazing journey into the depths of progressive trance sounds. By the time 'Reachers of Civilization" by York takes off, you'll be long gone with it. Tiesto's mixing is extra-smooth on this one, all cooked on his favorite turntables with his favorite tracks. On the tracklisting you'll find BT's Mercury & Solace, Ferry Corsten's mix of Taylor's "Calling your name", Matt Darey's Mix of "Sun Is shining", And many more.

Tiesto knows what he's doing. A suggestion to you - DO THE SAME. Get this CD.
