Book Description

March 1, 2008
The questions about God that used to center around his existence are now aimed at his morality: the God who permits diseases and natural disasters that kill innocent people; the God that allows brutal dictators to rule with an iron fist. At best this God is aloof and uncaring; at worst he is primitive and cruel.

Many of the contemporary generation have concluded, through what is called "common sense theology," that we are actually morally superior to God and he is less than inadequate. Even some in the church have begun to suspect this same thing: that God just isn’t that great. But as people of faith, we have an understanding that helps us bridge the reality of what we see with those realities we do not see. So how are we to communicate that to a skeptical generation?

In Searching for a Better God, Wade Bradshaw shows us that the caricatures many have drawn of God are not accurate and God, as described in the Bible, is misunderstood. Ideas about God that at first consideration seem unethical are precisely how we need God to be. He gives us ways to talk to those who doubt God’s character. By thoroughly explaining and examining this "contemporary, common sense theology," Bradshaw brings us back to confident hope in God, the perfect and moral God of the Bible.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is eye-opening., October 30, 2008

Wade Bradshaw's "Searching For A Better God" is eye-opening. We no longer have an accurate picture of God. We've spent so much time trying to put God into terms we can comprehend that He has become much smaller to us than He truly is! This book makes a valiant effort to re-draw that picture, bringing the reader back into alignment with the portrait God paints of Himself in scripture. This is not so much a warm and fuzzy, feel-good read as it is a thoughtful assessment of where we are and where we need to be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, horrendous formatting for kindle, April 26, 2011

I've been reading and discussing this book with some colleagues over breakfast once a week. It has definitely prompted some great discussions, and the book itself is excellent. However, this is the worst-formatted kindle book I have come across. It is so bad that the publisher should be paying customers $10 to suffer through it rather than charging them for it. Footnotes, scripture references, chapter headings, and page footers pop-up randomly through-out the text. Footnotes which apparently wrapped across the bottom of two pages in the print version are split and appear in two random spots in the kindle edition.

You should definitely buy and read this book, but do yourself a favor and buy a print copy.

This book helps tackle some of the unknown questions people are facing as believers and non-believers.

Helpful in differentiating between different obstacles to the belief in God.
