This review is from: Searching for David's Heart: A Christmas Story (Paperback)
I haven't read this book in five years or so, but the book is still good even from an almost-twenty-years-old perspective! Darcy Deeton is a twelve-year-old girl who loves her older brother, David. She becomes jealous when he falls in love with a girl, and Darcy inadvertently leads David to his tragic death by a car accident (read it, it's touching). The Deetons decide to donate David's organs. Darcy is so guilt-ridden about his death that she is determined to find the person who has his heart so she can find some closure. Darcy embarks on a wild adventure with her best friend, Sam.
These two twelve-year-olds are smart! Sam is an aspiring magician, but Darcy knows how to pick locks, too. With their wits, they manage to travel across many states and stay in one piece. Their whopping lies about their lives in the circus keep them from being discovered. There is also a mini-story about Darcy's father, who lost a job promotion to a black man. The stunning conclusion ties everything together: in addition to Darcy's finding closure, her father finally resolves his bitter hate against blacks. For a book meant for 5th graders, it does a good job addressing issues about organ donation and racial issues. I love this book - I'm not 13 anymore, but I recommend this to adults as well, who want a short but heartwarming read.

This review is from: Searching for David's Heart: A Christmas Story (Paperback)
Darcy is in sixth grade and she feels very awkward. She stutters when she gets nervous, and she finds it hard to talk to people. Her younger brother is a brat, her father always seems to be angry at her, and her grandmother is in a coma at a nursing home, where the children have to go visit her. But Darcy's big brother David is perfect. He is strong and sweet to everyone. Everyone likes him and he can get along with anyone, but he is especially good to Darcy. There is no one in the world she loves more.
Then David gets a girlfriend. She may be perfectly nice, but Darcy hates her and the fact that she seems to be taking David away. One night in a fit of fury after a ruined birthday celebration, Darcy yells at David and his girlfriend that she hates them and wishes her brother were dead. Then she runs off. As David is chasing after her, he is hit by a car and he dies. Darcy is riddled with guilt. She feels that she is a murderer, that David's death is her fault. She doesn't know what to do, and her family is falling apart now more than ever. Then Darcy makes a decision. She knows that her parents donated some of David's organs, including his heart. Darcy decides to find the recipient of that heart, to maybe see if that person now has a little bit of David in him or her. Darcy and her best friend Sam set off on their journey to track down David's heart. I liked the character of Sam, and the way he related to Darcy. I liked how the story was resolved at the end, and I liked how the father's prejudice was explained and dealt with. I thought that Darcy's parents were pretty horrible throughout most of the story, though. They should have been able to do something to help Darcy.

Cherie Bennett's book Searching for David's Heart is a very exciting book. I was not able to put it down. It is about a boy named david who dies. His sister Darcy feels it is all her fault. David is a organ donor. He gives his heart to a little boy in Miami, Flordia who is about to die too. Darcy did not know about David's heart getting donated, until she sees it on the front page of the newspaper. This begins the serch for her brother's heart. Read the book to find out how David dies, and what his sister does about it. This book is very sad but yet exciting too. I loved reading this book so much. I usually don't enjoy reading but this book I could not put down. I am looking foward to reading more of Cherie Bennett's books.

This is a touching book that made me never want to stop reading. Darcy is a sixth grader who loves her older brother David so much. He means the world to her. Then he gets this girlfirend, who he seems to love more than Darcy. But Darcy can't accept that- she hates the girlfriend. Then on her birthday David got them both the same gift, which Darcy later found out was the girlfriends idea. She starts to run away- David chases after her and gets killed. This is where the book starts to get intense. David's heart is soon transfered to another hospital and is donated to someone else. Darcy belives that if she finds the heart reciever,(who lives in Florida)she can still feel davids heart. Then she takes her best friend on a runaway journey to find the 12 year boy from Miami who recieved David's heart. They face many challenges, but work together to accomplish their goal-to find David's heart. It was an interesting book. I loved it, and so will you!!!

Searching for David's Heart was a really heart-warming book. It is about Darcy Deeton's search for her brother's heart. Her brother's heart was donated for transplant when he was killed in a horrible accident. Darcy is sure that her brother still lives if his heart beats on and she is determined to find it.

Searching for Davids heart was one of the best books I have ever read. It shows a point that if you lose someone forever, their heart will still be with you. This book is about a girl named Darcie Deeton. She loved her brother David very much, and felt the same way back. Untill her brother met, "the girl of his dreams". Darcie would do anything to get rid of her. But, on Darcies Birthday she fallowed David and his girlfriend to the park. She saw them kissing, and then she knew that her brother didn't need her anymore, and that dissapointed her. She started started to run, and never wanted to stop. David saw her, and started to run after her. Darcie ran in between two cars, and heard a loud screech of cars wheels pounding on the brakes. Darcie turned slowly to see her own brothers body crippled on the ground. David had basically dies instantly. But they still took him to the hospital, and he died about three days later. Almost all of Davids body parts were healthy, so he donated them to people who needed the body parts. Darcie had wanted had wanted to find his heart, to know who go it and that David is still living, but only his heart. That is when her journey to find Davids heart started. I recommend this book for almost anybody.Searching for Davids heart is a realistic fiction book and it could happen to almost anybody. It is based in how much one person can love another, but when their gone, you can barely even live.

I really haven't read this book in a long time, and don't think I can give you details, but I can tell you this has become my favorite book ever. It is really sad, and it's written so well. It's honestly the best book you will ever read.
Darce's brother David just died in a car crash after she and David got in a fight on her birthday, and he donates his heart to a little boy. Throughout the whole book Darce, and her friend Sam go looking for David's heart, because she feels it's her fault he died. It's just the best book you will ever read, and the best movie ever made. And I really think that if you pass up the chance to read this then you're really missing out.

Searching for David's Heart,
This review is from: Searching for David's Heart: A Christmas Story (Paperback)
The novel "Searching for David's Heart" by Cherie Bennett was a personally touching piece. It was about a girl named Darcy who adores her older brother David. Everything changes when David starts liking a girl, and Darcy becomes jealous. One night she goes and finds her brother making out with the girls she hates. As a result Darcy runs off and David follows her, but a car hits him. David ends up dying and the family gives his organs away, including his heart.
Darcy feels so guilty and is to herself for a while. She then realizes she can only live with herself once she finds the owner of David's heart. Darcy and her best friend Sam go on an adventure to find David's heart. On the way they encounter many hardships, but together they overcome them. They eventually find David's heart, and when they do Darcy can finally let him go. Darcy loved her brother, and she will never forget him. This book was a warm and heartfelt book. Every moment of it was real and emotional. It shows the hardships of a young girl trying to deal with not only the loss of her older brother, but also the fact that she somewhat caused the accident. I loved this heart- warming book and recommend it to people of all ages. It is a great book for everyone.

A Very Touching Story,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Searching for David's Heart: A Christmas Story (Paperback)
This book was really good because it had really sad parts and has a lot of emotion. The main charecter in this book is Darcie. Darcie is a twelve year old girl who loves her brother very much, but one day her brother comes home with girlfriend. Darcie is really mad because now her brother doesn't pay any attention her. She got so mad she ran across the street and he followed her, but a car hit him. This book teaches us that no matter how mad you are at somebody never run away or do something that may cause a terrible accident.
Darcie may never have a brother again, but she knows that her brother is still with her. She knows who has his heart. His heart is beating in someone else's body. This is a great book for people of all ages to read. |
