Excellent Pop/Rock Debut,
By
This review is from: Searchlights (Audio CD)
Abandon has crafted a pop/rock album that is both energetic and contemplative. Every other song feels like a breath of fresh air in pop/rock music. Synths are used throughout, but never abused. Piano is throw in for good measure on Safe in Your Arms and the beautiful album closer Hero. Songs like Hold On, Providence, and Atmosphere really make this album stand out, but the album highlight belongs to City Lights, possibly the best song I've heard this year. "We used to be so close, but with time we drifted apart. Now I'm on my way down the road, to where you are, to find your heart". The lyrics are honest and simple, but never cliché. The only thing that hinders this album is the song Here We Are Now. To me it falls into a typical ballad formula. Other may disagree, but I'm fine with enjoying the other 11 songs off the this amazing debut album.

Full uplifting music for this Fall,
This review is from: Searchlights (Audio CD)
Abandon took what they had in the EP and sealed it up to make it even better. They have a sound that's familiar but unique amongst the genre. The lyrics are meaningful and above all true to reality. Prepare to have a worship experience that exposes parts of you that have been buried deep.Tracks like "City Lights" cry for closeness while "Hold On" (the first and what I consider the staple Abandon track) tell a story of a girl lost and beaten by life. Abandon spares no personal reserve when writing this personal and compelling album.

Excellent Band!!! Great Music!!!,
This review is from: Searchlights (Audio CD)
Regardless of which musical genre you prefer, Abandon's sound and musicality has appeal for many across the spectrum.I enjoy most forms of music, but I was personally NEVER a fan of most Christian/spiritual recording artists. Music from that genre always fell flat to me artistically, sounding like hymnals and repeatative "praise" chants set to unsophisticated and trivial tones and rythms. Which is absolutely fine, if the message is what gets you and all that you are looking for. But for me, I want actual musicality in my music, and Abandon delivers this in abundance. The underlying message in their songs is one of praise and thanks for the gift of God's light in life. They are songs of hope that speak to the trials we all face as beings on this Earth. But, I can't think of one moment when the message is blatantly thrown in your face. As a matter of fact, if I had not been made aware that these songs contained a spiritual message, I would have just continued thinking that it was just great, incredibly heart-felt and passionate, music. The true magic of Abandon's music is in its overall poetry, and that it can be generalized to appeal to anyone. Get wrapped up in the message or lost in the melodies; feel the passion in each note and interpret the lyrics to fit into your life. No matter your preference, I challange anyone to not have some deep stirring, angst, insight, and contentment evoked while getting lost (or found) in Abandon.
