Biography

Shiny Toy Guns were formed in 2002 and owe a significant amount of their success to their promotion on MySpace. Their sunny electronica has more than a nod in the direction of early 80's bands like The Human League, albeit with a modern indie pop flavour.

The line-up was Chad Petree (guitar, vocals), Carah Faye Charnow (synthesizer, vocals), Jeremy Dawson (synthesizer, bass) and Mikey MartinRead more in Amazon's Shiny Toy Guns Store

2.0 out of 5 stars Pilots to Poison., November 8, 2008
This review is from: Season of Poison (Audio CD)
I have been a huge fan of Shiny Toy Guns since they first got Carah Faye in the band. Her beautiful voice and their fun, dancy beats got me into them.

I've been waiting for a new cd of theres for quite some time hopeing it would have the same type of sound because honestly I can never find any other bands that sound like Shiny Toy Guns.

After hearing that Carah Faye had been booted from the band over the summer I checked their myspace to listen to the new song "ricochet!"

I had to double check to see if I was actually at shiny toy gun's page. Unfortunetly I was, and this is what they have become?

Generic radio music?

Lame guitar beats?

Terrible Covers of Turn to Real Life?

It's sad when a band re does an old song and it becomes a cover because the origional was so much better.

Sisley's voice sounds like she's nervous and sort of like she's holding back.

The only way I can listen to this CD and NOT hate it is if I think to myself that "this isn't shiny toy guns" I have to think of it as some sort of side band.

I am very disappointed. Givin the length of time in between we are pilots and season of poison I was expecting something amazing.

We all have been let down :(

1.0 out of 5 stars Yikes..., January 29, 2009
This review is from: Season of Poison (Audio CD)
After showing so much promise on "We are Pilots", Shiny Toy Guns have devolved into something truly unfortunate. Gone are the anthemic synth-new wave gems, replaced by generic rock songs. The few songs that actually sound like STG are really poorly written as well. I am not opposed to bands changing and growing, but this is a momentous step backwards. Whether this is because of the departure of Carah Faye (who was a much better vocalist than the new one), I don't know, but something went very wrong.

If you liked the first album and that type of sound, you will probably not like this one. If you think Linkin Park and Evanescence are really cool bands, then you might actually like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good band, November 4, 2008
This review is from: Season of Poison (Audio CD)
I dunno about you guys, but I really liked this album. Maybe that's because this is my first time hearing the band, so I can't compare it to the other albums. Definitely check it out, especially the song "Money for that".
