Tristi Pinkston has the ability to find the soul of her characters and to portray them to her readers. I read Season of Sacrifice (and Nothing to Regret and Strength to Endure, two earlier novels) before they became Kindle ebooks. Regret is my favorite of her novels so far, but I was enthralled by the story she told in Sacrifice. These hardy pioneers about whom she writes were special people, embued with their own sacrificial heartaches brought on by the tough living standards to be found in the southern Utah desert and mountain country. Tristi portrays them as people of character, fraught with the requirements of daily life. Add the personal tragedy and they become larger than life.

I will continue to read Ms. Pinkston's work, knowing that I will obtain the joy of a good writer and a great story.

Tristi is a great historical fiction writer. This was her third book that I had read. She made Sarah and her sister Mary Ann real people. The Perkins' were asked to join the San Juan mission to make a trail through Southern Utah. The story kept me on the edge of my seat and taught me that those people obeyed the things they were called to endure.

Excellent read. Not only was this book very well written and hard to put down, but also learned a little history --- in an interesting way! I highly recommend the book --- as well as others Tristi has written.

Excellent portrayal of the sacrifice and beliefs of the early saints and pioneers. I appreciated her work in Sharing the details of life in both Wales and Utah and an excellent portrayal of a family coming to a new land where they didn't speak the language. Having experienced that a couple of times ourselves, I feel she didn't excellent job of capturing the experience accurately.

It was more history lesson/honor my ancestors than I had expected. I hadn't realized it was based on the author's ancestors, so I expected it to be more fictionalized.
