A wonderful, lyrical high fantasy story!, July 10, 2005
This review is from: The Season of Silver - Elfen Gold Book Two (Paperback)
In this, the second half of ELFEN GOLD, we are once again reunited with our old friends Michall, Ra-May, Ra-Nu, Phillip, along with their new companions, the fire elves and El-Cha. When we pick up our story of their quest to somehow save Ra-May's people, our companions have been separated by El-Cha's magic. Phillip and his little companions find themselves in the future with no way home, while El-Cha and Ra-Nu find themselves back in the past with no way to the present. And the hero and heroine of our story, Michall and Ra-May, find their way to the Blues, a race I personally find very intriguing. We get to finish the quest, along these very colorful and engaging characters.
While I myself love Sheri L. McGathy's work, I don't think I'm alone in my feelings. Sheri has the ability to draw a reader in with her lyrical pose and the fact this story is told from the point of view of the storyteller is very unique. This is a wonderful story and I cannot praise it highly enough!

Thick with exotic prose, a delightful read..., November 25, 2005

Filtered through the eyes and heart of an ancient storyteller, unwinds the tale of Ra-Jee, kingdom of the elves, and the struggle for its reclamation. Torn asunder by the Del-a-Shar, the soul stealer, Ra-Jee becomes lost, nothing more than a myth. Despite the hideous Del-a-Shar's malice, two elves survive the loss of their race: Ra-Nu and Ra-May. Raised by the warrior Ra-Nu, Princess Ra-May's destiny is dictated by the mysterious crystal that helped save her from the Del-a-Shar's attack.
The crystal's magic wafts through the lives of many, binding them to the fate it has foreseen. It first calls Prince Michall of Doran in his youth, making this human very aware of the beautiful Ra-May and the beautiful Ra-May's plight. She's quite aware of Michall, as well. When finally the two meet, destiny has them, and their loved ones, in its clutches.
Guided by the crystal, all involved must travel through a haunted, creeps-inducing land to reach the Del-a-Shar. When finally, the troupe nears its destination, misguided magic scatters the members throughout the book's past, present and future, where the members gather clues as to the Del-a-Shar's identity and how they might defeat him. But the members must discover the paths back to each other, for only together can they destroy the Del-a-Shar and prevent an altered past from shifting their present's narrative.
These books resonate fairytale in its truest form, from the sweet nibbles of romance between Michall and Ra-May to the bravery and self-sacrifice of each character involved. The narrative--thick with exotic prose--flowed much like poetry, and I often found myself contemplating--with a much contented sigh--the beauty of certain passages again and again. Ms. McGathy captivates and delights and is well on her way to walking into the realm of widespread literary acclaim.

THE SEASON OF SILVER, Elfen Gold Book Two ~ The adventure continues....
"Come, come. Do not dally. My old bones creak and moan their protests, begging me to finish what I have already begun.
"A tale awaits us, its ending yet to be told," the Storyteller proclaimed. "'Tis a tale of legend, of magic and elves, of sorrow, and of hope.
"Come, gather near, and we will discover what mysteries abound within the mists of enchantment, and learn together, what fate holds for our young heroes."
The Storyteller waved his wrinkled hand before him as he nodded to a spot near his feet. "Come, sit, and listen, and I will continue the tale Ra-May and Michall began when first they set out to save the Elfen kingdom of Ra-Jee.
"And so," whispered the old Storyteller. "The tale begins...."
------------
THE SEASON OF SILVER entices the reader back to the world of Ra-Jee and delightfully concludes the story of Ra-May and Michall. A must read for fantasy fans everywhere.
