Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In this highly colored but fatally overstuffed conclusion to the bestsellers Wild Swan and Swan's Chance , all obstacles to love and happiness are hurdled by the family famed for breeding racehorses at Wild Swan, the renowned Maryland stable built on the ashes of the Civil War. After a slow moving flood of reminiscences in the early chapters, the story picks up as third- and fourth-generation Falconers and Culhanes enter the final decades of the 1800s. To protect her precious family from threats made by her greedy half-brother, Gincie Culhane shoots to kill. Her outlaw status necessitates flight to the sanctuary of Wild Swan. There, where social justice rules and men and women are equals, her daughter Lexy becomes a crusading journalist, wielding her pen on behalf of women's rights, labor unions, and the plight of Southern blacks, while her husband Hawk follows suit for the Indians. De Blassis tries to touch on every major trend and event of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a herculean task that overburdens both narrative and characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars FALL IN LOVE AGAIN AND AGAIN, December 28, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: A Season of Swans (Hardcover)
If you have ever been in need of a friend or family away from your every day life, turn to A Season of Swans, and the first two books of the trilogy. Never before had I read such expertise. in Ms. DeBlasis's books, you will meet and fall instantly in love with Rane and Alexandria, Morgan and Samantha, Hawk and Lexy, not to mention the many other family members. The books are so amazingly constructed you feel as if you too were on the journey from England to Maryland, and very honored to be along. Time and time again I go back to the Swan trilogy, and each time it as if I was being embraced by old friends. A feeling that never grows old.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read for romance lovers, June 5, 2001
By
Elisa A Nordstrom (Chimacum, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This book is a wonderful way of ending the "Swan" trilogy. I enjoyed how Celeste followed Alex but focused mainly on her grandchildren and the issues in surrounding lives. Overflowing with historical information that is intriguing and easy to read, A Season Of Swans leaves you wishing you could have been there to help or enjoy along with them. Having read everything that Celeste DeBlasis has written I know that she cannot write a bad sentence. This book is worth your time and a must have for every lover of romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is part of a trilogy/ Wonderful story, May 6, 2006
When I read this series of books, I didn't think a book so thick could keep my attention. It had 100% of my attention. All 3 are wonderful stories that you will never forget. Plus, if you like horses, you'll enjoy these.
