Book Description

November 1997
Glorious wreaths for every season, all simple to create from a dazzling array of flowers, foliage, and imaginative materials. Featuring 80 color photos. From the laurel wreaths of ancient Greece to the floral garlands that grace the modern wedding, wreaths have been used for centuries to mark special occasions as well as to embellish the home. Now talented young florist Susanna Morrison presents more than 30 stylish designs using flowers and foliage as well as a rich variety of more unusual materials. Among the seasonal projects are a heart-shaped wreath of pink, red, and creamy white roses for Valentine's Day; a bright circle of summer sunflowers; a Yuletide garland of mistletoe; and a sumptuous centerpiece of peonies, roses, and lisanthus. Some of the projects, like the intricate mosaic wreath, take a little longer to create, while many--the fiery garland of dried chilies, for example--can be completed in almost no time. Throughout, a beautiful selection of color photos illustrates the key steps and stunning creations. 120 pp 9 x 10 80 color photos

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

For once, the advance publicity and book blurbs are correct. Morrison has produced an absolutely smashing--and original--collection of wreaths, more than 30 in all. And lest readers think that these decorative wreaths are used only at holiday times, just open the book at random. Each of the four seasons is well represented, if not in floral design then in imaginative fashion. Spring receives edible candy and mosaic treatments, for example, while winter, despite its sparse vegetation, is festooned with circlets of sequins and presents. Luscious color photographs make up for rather terse instructions, yet none of the designs is particularly complex. Suppliers appended. Barbara Jacobs
