The first Slayer album I ever heard was "South of Heaven," and I was hooked. I could not stop listening to it. I had never heard that much anger mixed with passion and talent before. My parents also hated the title... that's probably why I bought it in the first place.

I love "Reign In Blood." It is, by far, the best example of true thrash metal ever... 10 songs in 29 minutes... and still beats the hell out of ANYTHING coming out now.

That said... THIS is my favorite Slayer album ever. Why? It combines the speed of "Reign In Blood" with the mid-tempo ultra heavy grooves of "South of Heaven." It's also the most musical of all the Slayer albums, if that means anything.

From the opening speed riffing of "War Ensemble" to the churning of the title track, this is the total package for Slayer. Lombardo proves himself as the fastest drummer around. King and Hannaman never sounded better, and Tom's voice really shines... not quite sure if that's a compliment, though.

FYI... it was Metal Hammer's album of the year, 1990.

Hard to say if this is the BEST Slayer album or not. For somebody new to Slayer or this type of music, it is definitely one of the more accessible albums. Would definitely make a great first Slayer album. Not as fast as their earlier offerings, but the song-writing and musicianship along with recording clarity are much better here than on earlier albums.

After doin' a little research I discovered there were 3 "Blood Pack" releases related to Seasons In The Abyss. The 'Seasons In The Abyss - Blood Pack - US - CD ALBUM - Promo', the 'Seasons In The Abyss - Blood Pack - US - CD SINGLE', & the 'Seasons In The Abyss - Blood Pack - UK - CD SINGLE'. But this review is for the US Single release. It's a 1990 US limited edition 3-track CD single, includes Album Version, Alternative Mix and Aggressive Perfector. Housed inside the PVC 'blood pack', this copy has dried up like most copies that are found nowadays!

Slayer's album "Seasons in the Abyss" is so awesome that I couldn't stop listening to it, which prohibited me from listening to other artists at the time. Seasons in the Abyss is one of Slayer's best recording albums and I totally recommend it for all you metalheads. The recent Slayer show I've gone to played the entire album and thought they sounded just as good live. I'm proud of my purchase and got it at a really good price.
