Book Description

April 1998
A Wise, Helpful Book that Provides Practical Tools For One of Modern Life's Greatest Challenges--Change

Change is a constant, and we often feel overwhelmed by it, yet our culture provides us with very little information about how to deal with transitions in a graceful, healing way. Designed as a practical tool to help readers negotiate the seas of change, The Seasons of Change describes how important it is to view change as a naturally occurring process that is a catalyst, rather than a threat, to success.

Dr. Carol McClelland, a transition consultant specializing in guiding people through periods of transition, describes our lives as following nature's pattern of the seasons. For instance, Summer is a time for celebrating our harvest, a time when we savor our successes and take an opportunity to relax. Fall is a season to prepare for the harsh winter months and unsettling conditions that often take place around this time. Winter is a time of hibernation and renewal while Spring, of course, is a time when our energy increases and we anticipate new beginnings. By following Dr. McClelland's model, we can become conscious of our own cycles, learn to trust our feelings, and benefit from the gifts that nature offers.

Using a simple questionnaire, you can figure out where you are in your own transition process, how to move forward, and how you might get off track. Myths, personal anecdotes, and nature analogies are used to illustrate points. Highly readable, The Seasons of Change also includes invaluable advice for building a strong support network in order to make healthy transitions.

True help for everyone, no matter what season you're in.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

The seasons of the year are used as the framework for a thoughtful and well-grounded book on handling life transitions. McClelland explores the purpose of every season, and helps readers assess what season or stage of development they are currently dwelling in. From there, she shows how nature's seasons can be used to initiate oneself into the next level of spiritual and personal development. For example, McClelland writes that the signs of autumn are getting news of a change, feeling your feelings, waiting, and worrying. The tasks of autumn are, therefore, acknowledge change, get support, create your own refuge, review your options. Whereas spring signs are bursting with energy, experiencing spring storms, struggling with reentry. Spring tasks include trusting your own timing, birthing the year, stretching and growing, coming of age. --Gail Hudson

Review

Carol McClelland gives us an invaluable gift: a spiraling model for change based on the rhythms and designs of the earth's seasons. Equipped with this template, we will find all the transitions of our lives smoother, easier, more true - because they will pulse to the rhythms deep within each of us. -- David J. Kundtz, Author of Stopping: How to Stop when You Have to Keep Going.

Carol McClelland understands transition and how to help others come through it more successfully. The Seasons of Change is a gentle, thoughtful, useful book. When you find that the quick fix-it solutions don't work, take a look at McClelland's book. I think you will find it very helpful. -- Dr. William Bridges, author of Transition and Creating You & Co.

Life is about transitions yet many today attempt to live in a 'don't rock the boat' environment. In her book, The Seasons of Change, Carol McClelland skillfully portrays these changes as seasons of the year and demonstrates how viewing them as such can bring healing to our lives. As an avid observer of nature, I highly recommend this book. -- Ron Roth, Author of The Healing Path of Prayer.

What a wonderful book-and how timely! It is a godsend at a time in history when change challenges us all on nearly a daily basis, profoundly affecting our careers, relationships and even our leisure activities. This is must reading, not only to cope with change but to grow into more comfortable and meaningful lives in the process. -- Hal Zina Bennett, Ph.D. and Susan J. Sparrow, authors of Follow Your Bliss.

I was truly blown away by THE SEASONS OF CHANGE. I have read many self help books but nothing that has come so close to my true feelings and fears about change and transitions in life. It reallly hit home and help me see that I was going thru all the "normal" phases. CArol McClelland knows what she is talking about because she too has been in the transitional state. It really made me feel better, and I even called her to schedule a session. Dynamic book...I really reccommend it!!!
