Book Description

100 Inspiring True Stories in the four volumes of Seasons of Our Lives (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter).

The award-winning stories in the four volumes of Seasons of Our Lives will charm, intrigue, captivate, and inspire you because they speak of our lives almost as much as they do the authors'. The details of childhood, coming of age, adulthood, and aging--of passion, friendship, love, sacrifice, betrayal, disappointment, survival, and unexpected joy--of lives intersecting with history--of ordinary yet extraordinary experiences are unique to these award-winning authors and yet at their core these stories tell of all our lives.

WHAT'S INSIDE.

In this Spring volume, you'll find:
  • 28 award-winning life stories
  • 28 takeaways or mini-lessons that will help you reflect on the seasons of your own life. And, they just might help you write more dynamically if you decide to share your stories with family, friends, and even more widely.

AND NOW...

pull up a chair at the kitchen table or sit on the sofa in the living room. Make yourself comfortable. You'll want a cup of tea or coffee nearby as you settle in for a great read. You might even need a few tissues for some of these stories. As you read, you will probably recall the family stories that have mattered to you. That's part of the sweetness of memoir reading...memories of our own tales.

Editorial Reviews

Review

It is true that each woman is a story waiting to be told--and in this outstanding collection of memoirs you'll find many wonderful women's stories. It is also true that each woman's story is everywoman's story, for we share so many of the same experiences. As I read these stories [in Seasons of Our Lives], I am reading bits and pieces from my own life, and I am inspired to write my own with a more passionate and compassionate heart. I hope you are, too. ~Susan Wittig Albert, bestselling author of Writing from Life.

...brings poignant stories of history and nostalgia to the reader, as well as writing observations and lessons for the author in everyone. Seasons of our Lives is sure to be another award-winning work from the dynamic duo of Butler and Bonnett. ~Judy Sheer Watters, author of The Road Home: The Legacy that was, is and is to Come

A delight for anyone who enjoys compelling stories as well as a handbook for those who desire to tell or write their own. ~Judith Newton, Professor Emerita, UC Davis, Women and Gender Studies, award-winning food memoir author, Tasting Home

The stories ... collectively sparkle like facets of a crystal chandelier. Each enjoyable, thought-provoking story is told in an authentic voice.... But these are no ordinary anthologies. The editors' insightful remarks at the end of each piece turn the volumes into uniquely powerful writing texts for students of memoir. ~Sharon Lippincott, author of The Heart and Craft of Writing Compelling Description, and others.

From the Author

  • The concept behind the four volumes of Seasons of Our Lives originated on our website WomensMemoirs.com. The idea was that we'd provide content to help women write their memoirs. Over time, we wanted a two-way exchange. We wanted women to be able to share their stories with us and others. And that was the beginning of a series of contests. Then last year, we decided to have just four contests -- one focused on stories from each of the seasons of the year.
  • We received hundreds of entries and soon realized that we had some real gems, stories that needed to be shared more widely than just our website. We began the long process of reading all the entries and selecting just the best.
  • But we didn't stop with just the best of the stories. We decided to write a takeaway, a mini-lesson, for each story. We wanted readers to have comments that would help them reflect on their own life stories and highlight writing suggestions that they can use as they work on their own legacy stories.
  • So whether you just want to enjoy reading or whether you want to learn more about memoir writing, we think you'll find a richness of content in these volumes -- Seasons of Our Lives (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter).
  • Although Kendra Bonnett and I have written and published many books over our careers, we'd never undertaken an ebook. After several false starts (stories best saved for another day), we created these four volumes and are delighted to put them into your hands (well, on your screens).
  • We hope you will be as touched by these stories as we have been. They have the power to inspire all of us in our own lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easter in July February 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is really terrific, and I don't think it's just because I have a story in it. My story is titled, "Easter in July" which is about finding a lost Easter Egg in July and not understanding why we couldn't eat it.

This book is excellent for budding memoir writers because the publishers, who are award winning authors in their own right, critiqued each story so everyone could learn what each author did RIGHT. Excellent learning tool for the contributors and readers. FYI: This book was an Amazon best-seller on its debut, February 1, 2014. Enjoy...
