5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Gift for New Parents, July 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The 8 Seasons of Parenthood: How the Stages of Parenting Constantly Reshape Our Adult Identities (Hardcover)
We received this book after our first child was born. I was SO glad to have this book, it validated all my feelings about having a newborn in the house and helped me gain perspective on what is in store. At a time of so much chaos, this book really grounded me! I look forward to using it as my child grows and my role as a mother continues to change.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have parenting book, May 12, 2000
This review is from: The 8 Seasons of Parenthood: How the Stages of Parenting Constantly Reshape Our Adult Identities (Hardcover)
I'm a volcano dweller and a psychotherapist and I love the truth in this book. I thought I was going to mold my children, little did I realize how much they were going to mold me. This will be an absolute "must read" for all my clients who are parents. A definite "sanity enhancer" for those "how did I get myself into this" moments!

As a mother of toddlers, this book has helped me appreciate how precious this "season" really is. After reading this book, I now know what to expect and will have more confidence in handling the ups & downs of parenthood. This is a MUST READ for anyone who is a parent-to-be thru a grandparent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Help for every stage, September 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The 8 Seasons of Parenthood: How the Stages of Parenting Constantly Reshape Our Adult Identities (Hardcover)
My 17-year-old daughter left this morning for three months of making her dreams come true. I would have been mopey and left to feel sorry for myself had I not read this book. Understanding the stages and phases of my life as a mother -- and as a daughter -- is practical and valuable. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sanity Helper For Sure, November 15, 2011
This review is from: The 8 Seasons of Parenthood: How the Stages of Parenting Constantly Reshape Our Adult Identities (Hardcover)
I agree with the other comments. It's like they took the words out of my mouth. As each new stage of parenting was approaching I would pick this book up to become better prepared. I found parenting was very emotionally challenging at times and this book validated how I felt. It just helped me cope a little bit better with all I was worried about.

It's easy to just pick up and read the section you need to and wait until the next stage approaches to read the next chapter. I still have a couple of chapters ahead, although I took a sneak peak. I love the concept I read recently that once you're a parent you live your life over and over. In a way, you re-live your own childhood, then your children have children and you re-live it again...You never finish being a parent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great book that encompasses the "big picture" of parenthood., February 12, 2011
This review is from: The 8 Seasons of Parenthood: How the Stages of Parenting Constantly Reshape Our Adult Identities (Hardcover)
I really loved this book. Rather than being a book that only focusses on small things such as "back-talking" or teaching children responsibility (great reading as well!) it teaches parents to see parenthood as a life long journey. The authors encourage the reader to enjoy parenthood as a ride through which there are dips, curves, and plateau's. Overall it puts parents in touch with those anxious feelings which are hard to get into words. Most of them come from the parents own insecurities or regreats from their childhoods. I thought the book was fabulous and I intend to always refer to it no matter what season I'm in. Overall, the biggest message I recieved was to always enjot the season you were in while appreciating your child no matter what stage they are going through as our true duty as a parent is to help our children become self-sufficient adults.

this is really a wonderful book - giving readers outlines of the different stages of parenthood. I especially enjoyed the last few chapters... it gave me an understanding of what to expect and how i would cope with the fact that my children would one day leave the house to have a family of their own. Be confident and loving... in this cycle of life. A must read.
