About the Author

Born, raised, and currently residing in Seattle, Chase Jarvis is well known as a visionary photographer, director, provocateur, and social artist with a consistent ambition to break down—even explode—the traditional silos where ideas reside, especially including the traditionally opposed notions of fine art and commercial art. While much of his focus is, on the surface, based in visual and representational art, his most profound interests lie in conceptual and informational art—and where they intersect.

His personal work has earned the attention of gallerists and curators in the USA and abroad, he has won numerous awards for his commercial campaigns, and he is widely recognized for his entrepreneurial acumen. Chase has been featured in print, web, and broadcast—including photography, film and video trades, celebrity, news, and popular culture media—worldwide.

A gifted leader with boundless energy, Chase finds time amidst his creative ambitions to cultivate communities, unite disparate cultures, and volunteer with numerous organizations around the globe. And he wants you to know that, while he approved this statement, his publisher wrote it with all the right pizzazz and buzz words.

When most of us think of city, the architecture, the structure and the location first come to mind. However, it is the people that make a city what it is.

Through his Seattle 100 project, Chase has been able to assemble a book that shows the people who make Seattle the unique place that is it. From musicians to dancers, and from academics to business leaders, the individuals and groups in this book showcase some of the best that Seattle has to offer.

These images not only give me an insight into Seattle, but makes me want to take a closer look of my hometown, and seek out the same kinds of people who shape the city I live in.

Chase, this book is absolutely beautiful, insightful and inspiring. Congratulations on the completion of this 2-yr project, I can't wait to see the website and everything that develops around this project.

-Andrew

Seattle 100 - Portrait of a city is the perfect title for this Book. Chase Jarvis has once again delivered a beautiful message through his pictures in this book.

Years of work has gone into the creation of this book. and all through out the book you can feel the energy of the city via the powerful Black and white portrait of every individual.

Thanks Chase for opening my eyes to a different side of Seattle that I have never seen before.

Great job!

Seattle 100 is a beautifully crafted "Portrait of a City". Jarvis gets to the core of his 100 in this 240 page book. The photographs are so simple there is nothing to observe other than the people and the stories they have to tell. The words give a small bio of each person but it is the image(s) that do the talking. This is a beautiful manifestation of the old adage just get out and do it showing you do not need to live in the big cities to create interesting and stimulating material. Chase reached out to his city and shot the people that he feels make a difference in his city. Definite must buy!

I pre-order the book and it showed up the day after it shipped and the price cannot be beat. It looks great. It is an engrossing book to put your feet up and flip through. Chase Jarvis took the descriptive approach to Seattle society as opposed to the perspective approach to heart. I now live in San Francisco, but grew up in the Northwest and this book helped to bring back everything that I love about Seattle. The book is full of surprises and many "I didn't know that about..." moments. This is a must order for anyone who lives or loves Seattle.

I've just received my copy and It's a great pleasure to turn each page for the first time, to discover all this people, through Chase Jarvis's eye !
They are all different, proud or shy, old or young, wise or excited, from several cultures or roots. The portraits are beautiful, great quality shooting and printing, really.
I love the job of Chase, and I think i'll love Seattle, before going to this amazing city. This book will stay on my the table of my lounge, in order to tempt me for photograph people, everyday. Thx Chase for sharing your vision.
