This review is from: Seattle the Dark Side (Audio CD)
Funny, I came across this album reading a review from The Source Magazine that was printed back in '93. I came on Amazon and saw that this was only a penny and decided to purchase it. I rarely heard any music from the Pacific Northwest, except for the infamous "Baby Got Back" single, but that is about it.

Before he became washed up (somewhere in 1994), Sir Mix-A-Lot decides to round up a few well known artists in the Seattle area for a short compilation (nine tracks long) on his label Rhyme Cartel Records (Def American Records/Warner Brothers). He did a good job finding a few, because everyone here is worth hearing. Mix plays the background role throughout this compilation, keeping his presences to a low, by appearing here twice (one solo track, and as a guest appearance on the other).

Everyone else here plays their part here. E-Dawg and Filthy Rich starts things off with "Drop Top" a nice track. Sir Mix-A-Lot himself shows up to respond to the critics in the upbeat "Just Da Pimpin' In Me". Jay-Skee's track "Menace Crook" is pretty nice. Jazz Lee Alston from Brooklyn does a dedication to her sister as she does a spoken word about abusive relationships on the deep "Love...Never That". R&B group 3rd Level does a solid job on "Show You". Kid Sensation probably has the biggest standout here with "Flava You Taste", a favorite of mine. Making an another appearance is E-Dawg and Filthy Rich on "Little Locs" with has that South Central L.A. sound here. Jay-Skee appears again on "12 Gauge" which is a good track. The album ends with another 3rd Level track "Don't Play Me" with Sir Mix-A-Lot again with a new jack swing type song style here.

Judging by this compilation, Sea Town has a great amount of artists here with skill. I know a few are somewhat known outside of the city (I think Kid Sensation had a buzz for a while). Mix kept this compilation short and to the point with nine tracks (which give me a higher score, because it was stretched to about 13 or 14, I would have easily gotten tired of it). The prices for this album are real cheap. You can get this new for less than a dollar. This one I recommend for those who are curious here, because there are a few treats here. Peace.
