5.0 out of 5 stars By Far the best I've Tried August 23, 2007
Seche Vite Fast Drying Top Coat is by far the best top coat I've used. For years I was an OPI devotee, and I assumed it was best if I used OPI topcoat with their polish. Seche Vite, however, has provided a much clearer and glossier finish than any other top coat I've tried. Also, it does not nick once it gets dry.

People tell me my nails look great all the time and they think they look professionally done. I think this is largely because of the glossy and clear finish I get from Seche Vite--though I will take credit for the years of experience, but a manicure or pedicure won't look professional no matter how good you are if you don't have a good top coat.

I've noticed that if I use and older bottle of Seche Top coat that I'll be more prone to cracking of the top coat, but that's only if I happen to pick up a bottle that is over a year old. Just be sure to keep a fresh bottle on hand and close it tightly, and this should help extend the life of your top coat.

As far as the one reviewer who complained of chips, perhaps the bottle of top coat she used was an old one. I'm not sure, but I do my own nails every week and don't have any problems with chipping (unless I'm doing hardcore work, in which case ANY polish would chip). If you're tough on your nails you may want to also use "chip skip," which is an OPI product.

One final note, as top coats do, this one does tend to absorb some of your nail color. For instance red polish might tint your bottle of top coat a light red. If you don't always use the same color of polish, I'd recommend cleaning your applicator brush after using the top coat (with polish remover). Otherwise, next time you go to do a french manicure it might have swirls of red in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing - You HAVE To Try To Believe February 4, 2006
This isn't normally the type of product I review, but when I saw my favourite top coat listed, I had to review it.

I know people everywhere will tell you how fantastic their 'can't live without' cosmetic is, but this is different. This truely and honestly is the best top coat in the entire universe. It honestly is and you really have to give it a go. Without kidding, within two - three minutes of having applied this to two color coats of polish, you will be able to drive, run your fingers through your hair, put a cd in the player etc etc. And sheet marks at night??? A thing of the past with this. Even if you paint your nails a half hour to an hour before bed, there won't be a problem in the morning. This really has to be tried to be believed and I can't stop going on about the quality and professionalism of this product (I never can pronounce it, but I always use it). I wish all salons would use this so people out there get a chance to experience this amazing product for themselves. You'll be hooked and will never try anything else again.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Million Stars!!!!!!!!! November 14, 2006
Hallelujah! I've tried dozens of shiny topcoats, quick dry topcoats and quick dry items you put on after topcoats and I have finally found the best product out there! (This is it.)

Apply right after your manicure, doesn't smear or smudge the polish. It actually does a great job filling in and concealing any minor flaws in the manicure as well. Dries nearly instantly to the touch, dries solid in minutes. Shiny, shiny, shiny! I cannot stop raving about this product and I am definitely trying their other nail products.

I just have never had much luck with any other fast dry topcoat - no matter how long I'm careful afterwards. I'm a perfectionist and this stuff has finally made my manicure perfect. I'll have to update this as to how long my manicure lasted with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome top coat! May 27, 2010
By A. Yu
Normally I'm pretty skeptical about recommendations when it comes to something as seemingly straightforward as top coats, but Seche Vite must mix some crushed unicorn horn or dragon scales into their top coat because this stuff is amazing.

Gone are the days of waiting 3 hours before doing anything involving some level of dexterity or repairing sheet marks the next day. I can apply a layer of this stuff and be digging around in my purse 15 minutes later with impunity. As an added bonus, it leaves an outrageously-glossy finish that makes it look like my nails are still wet!

As I type this review, I'm on day 5 and my nails still look the same as day 1. I wear my nails fairly short (clipped right to the fingertips), so perhaps my tips don't endure a ton of abuse, but considering daily chores, showering, and constantly retrieving keys dropped behind large objects, my nails don't exactly live a pampered lifestyle.

Seche Vite does lose one star (I wish I could only knock off half a star, really) because Seche hasn't come out with a toluene-free formula yet, which is unfortunate. While I doubt toluene in your top coat would be a serious health risk unless you use this stuff to garnish your salads, I still think it's a shame that this still has it when competitors have nixed the compound.

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not work well with B3F polishes April 15, 2011
I know I am in the minority but I do not care for Seche Vite at all. The first thing you will notice when you open the bottle is the odor - it is overwhelming and gives me a headache after only moments. It smells because it contains Toluene - one of the "big 3's" that most polish companies have removed from their lacquers and treatments. Because of the toluene Seche Vite simply does not work with Big 3 Free polishes. You will notice your polish shrinking on the edges as it dries, and that your manicures just don't last. As you get down to the second half of the bottle, the product starts to thicken considerably which makes it hard to spread onto your nails. You will notice as this happens that when you apply it onto your wet polish the polish will drag, wrinkle, and look streaky.

Just a note- You MUST apply Seche Vite to wet polish. Wait no more than a couple minutes before you apply it or your polish will come off in a big sheet. You cannot use it to "refresh" the shine on a manicure you've been wearing for a couple days as that will make it come off in a sheet as well.

What kills it for me is the smell. I just can't get past it and that is why I will not purchase this product again. If you are looking for a good quick dry top coat that is shiny and gives you the glassy look that Seche Vite does, I recommend Poshe Super Fast Drying Top Coat. It has some of the problems Seche Vite does (must apply to wet polish, starts to thicken as you use up the bottle), but I do believe it is much, much better.

Not the best or worst of top coats - it does dry quickly but it doesn't prevent chipping either - regardless of the quality of the nail color.
