Seche Vite Fast Drying Top Coat is by far the best top coat I've used. For years I was an OPI devotee, and I assumed it was best if I used OPI topcoat with their polish. Seche Vite, however, has provided a much clearer and glossier finish than any other top coat I've tried. Also, it does not nick once it gets dry.

People tell me my nails look great all the time and they think they look professionally done. I think this is largely because of the glossy and clear finish I get from Seche Vite--though I will take credit for the years of experience, but a manicure or pedicure won't look professional no matter how good you are if you don't have a good top coat.

I've noticed that if I use and older bottle of Seche Top coat that I'll be more prone to cracking of the top coat, but that's only if I happen to pick up a bottle that is over a year old. Just be sure to keep a fresh bottle on hand and close it tightly, and this should help extend the life of your top coat.

As far as the one reviewer who complained of chips, perhaps the bottle of top coat she used was an old one. I'm not sure, but I do my own nails every week and don't have any problems with chipping (unless I'm doing hardcore work, in which case ANY polish would chip). If you're tough on your nails you may want to also use "chip skip," which is an OPI product.

One final note, as top coats do, this one does tend to absorb some of your nail color. For instance red polish might tint your bottle of top coat a light red. If you don't always use the same color of polish, I'd recommend cleaning your applicator brush after using the top coat (with polish remover). Otherwise, next time you go to do a french manicure it might have swirls of red in it.

This isn't normally the type of product I review, but when I saw my favourite top coat listed, I had to review it.

I know people everywhere will tell you how fantastic their 'can't live without' cosmetic is, but this is different. This truely and honestly is the best top coat in the entire universe. It honestly is and you really have to give it a go. Without kidding, within two - three minutes of having applied this to two color coats of polish, you will be able to drive, run your fingers through your hair, put a cd in the player etc etc. And sheet marks at night??? A thing of the past with this. Even if you paint your nails a half hour to an hour before bed, there won't be a problem in the morning. This really has to be tried to be believed and I can't stop going on about the quality and professionalism of this product (I never can pronounce it, but I always use it). I wish all salons would use this so people out there get a chance to experience this amazing product for themselves. You'll be hooked and will never try anything else again.

I got tired of paying $30 to $40 every two weeks for a no-chip manicure. I also felt the removal process of the no-chip was damaging my nails. I did some research and now do my own nails at home. I start with China Glaze adhesion which extends the life of the polish. I use China Glaze polish. Finally, I use the Seche Vite top coat. The end product looks like a salon manicure. I bought all products, including four different color polishes, for less than the cost of one no-chip manicure. My manicure lasts a minimum of eight days, and that's doing dishes and housework. I got everything I need right here on Amazon. Easy one stop shopping. :)

I know I am in the minority but I do not care for Seche Vite at all. The first thing you will notice when you open the bottle is the odor - it is overwhelming and gives me a headache after only moments. It smells because it contains Toluene - one of the "big 3's" that most polish companies have removed from their lacquers and treatments. Because of the toluene Seche Vite simply does not work with Big 3 Free polishes. You will notice your polish shrinking on the edges as it dries, and that your manicures just don't last. As you get down to the second half of the bottle, the product starts to thicken considerably which makes it hard to spread onto your nails. You will notice as this happens that when you apply it onto your wet polish the polish will drag, wrinkle, and look streaky.

Just a note- You MUST apply Seche Vite to wet polish. Wait no more than a couple minutes before you apply it or your polish will come off in a big sheet. You cannot use it to "refresh" the shine on a manicure you've been wearing for a couple days as that will make it come off in a sheet as well.

What kills it for me is the smell. I just can't get past it and that is why I will not purchase this product again. If you are looking for a good quick dry top coat that is shiny and gives you the glassy look that Seche Vite does, I recommend Poshe Super Fast Drying Top Coat. It has some of the problems Seche Vite does (must apply to wet polish, starts to thicken as you use up the bottle), but I do believe it is much, much better.

Before I talk about the product itself, I feel that it is important to mention the over-exaggerated topic of toluene. Whenever a "health scare" like this comes up, I always do the research. After reading so many reviews complaining about this horrible ingredient, I thought to myself, "If it's so bad, then why are the FDA allowing it into products at all?" Sure, many brands have removed the ingredient, but if it were truly unsafe to use for the purpose for which it was intended, it wouldn't be allowed in any brand. So after having done some research from reliable, credible sources, I stumbled across a few facts.

First of all, toluene is not cancer causing - so no need to worry about that. Over exposure to the ingredient can cause heart and neurological damage. For this reason alone, a warning label HAS to go on the box. It's the same with paint thinners, gasoline, lacquers, and other industrial products made with the ingredient (or any known harmful ingredient) that the warnings be printed on the product. Please be aware that serious side effects are the result of OVER EXPOSURE and that regular, intended usage is nothing at all to be concerned about. The quantity of the ingredient is so low, the only way you'd really do damage is if you sat there and huffed the bottle. Using it for the purpose of a nail polish top coat is completely safe.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend using this if you are pregnant. All of the evidence points to severe effects only occurring with excessive exposure, but this is the only time I personally might not take the risk simply because it is strong-smelling. But overall, use this product as you are supposed to and you'll have nothing to worry about.
