4.0 out of 5 stars Classic 60's stuff!, June 13, 2011
This review is from: Second Album (Audio CD)
The Four Tops second album is formulaic; you know, vibraphone laced motown pop, with a strident beat and vocals as sweeping as the strings. Definitely can hear some saxaphones enroaching there too. It may be formulaic, but it's a tried and true formula, and The Four Tops turn in one of their best albums.

There are three recognisable hits, 'I can't help myself', 'Same old song' and (my personal favourite song on the album) 'There's something about you'. In fact, those first two are perennial favourites on the oldies radio. The other songs are, for the most part, not as good. However, they are all exciting, up-tempo songs, and are all of a fairly high standard.

So, a highly recommended album as it is one of the most enjoyable ones by one of the best R&B / pop groups. Rating is around 3 1/2 - 3 3/4, or 4 rounding up

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Album Ever!, January 22, 2011

I had the original album in the sixties. It's just as fantastic today as it was then. Unfortunately I am only able to hear the odd songs from it on the radio because I cannot buy the album anywhere!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 Tops live Forever, May 12, 2009

I had the original LP. My uncle, William Ford Crane known as "Butterball" at WVON in Chicago and WCHB in Detroit during the 60s and 70s, gave me this album for a birthday gift in 1966. I humbly thank those overseas who thought enough to put this import on CD. I guess no one here stateside thought it important enough.

This was part of the 4 Tops foundation that sustained them until Levi Stubbs left us, just months ago. Bittersweet!
