1.0 out of 5 stars I Laughed Until I Cried, November 7, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Second American Revolution: First Shots Fired (Hardcover)
This thin book clearly wishes it were "Unintended Consequences." It makes a point to criticize that book several times, while copying the initial plot of that superior work almost exactly. While the former book wielded a deft scalpel at times, this story is a sledgehammer without any subtlety. "President Bubba" is depicted smoking a joint _every_ single time we see him. Several scenes are repeated almost word-for-word. The heroes never fail to kill a federal agent when they shoot at them, whether with gun, cannon or brick.
This is actually the first book I've ever thrown across a room for its offensiveness. Since it's very short, I ended up finishing it anyway- it began to get markedly worse as it went along, and held a strange fascination, like watching a train derail. It starts off with a hero persecuted by the government, but goes steadily downhill. The major groaner highlights were when all the non-Christian characters are shown in several scenes roasting in Hell, and when angels protect the hero from harm. I was surprised the author didn't have the main character crucified on a cross at the end to make his point. Another bit of artistry: the villains question whether the hero is a racist white guy- so on the same page the hero suddenly rescues a homeless black woman and starts to woo her. "We're all the same under God's eyes" he tells her, while on the next page he mentions how Asians like to torture and kill without conscience.
How did this thing get published? The fact that it was produced in Show Low, the same small town the story takes place in, says volumes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blatant rip-off of a much better book, August 19, 2008
This review is from: The Second American Revolution: First Shots Fired (Hardcover)
I found this book at a gun show, where anti-government fantasy literature is often found. Having read "Unintended Consequences", I was familiar with the genre.
The scene where President Bubba runs into his wife "Gila Monster" or whatever down in the firey pit and says "Oh no, I really AM in Hell" was kind of funny.
I loaned this book to a friend. He later returned it saying "I feel somehow diminished or degraded for having read it".
I agree. Wonder what John Ross thinks of it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't buy it., November 11, 2001

Probably one of the worst "Second American Revolution" books I've read in years. Don't waste your time or money. Get _Unintended Consequences_ instead.
