5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the word games enthusiast April 5, 2011
By ping
Bought the paid version way back in October 2010 after playing with the free version for a week or two. The game has only gotten better since then. Beats the competition out of the water, including the overhyped and underwhelming Words with Friends. This is much much better.

After playing with Wordsmith for as long as I have, it's hard to go back to the competition. Features like the score previews and player stats are easy to get used to, and are really hard to get by without!

I'm a fairly serious Scrabble player and have played practically every Scrabble-like game (WWF, Wordfeud, Droidwords, etc) in the Android market; I bought the Scrabble game for my Kindle and own 3 physical Scrabble sets (standard, travel folio, pocket editions). I recommend Wordsmith unequivocally.

The developer keeps the app updated regularly, with both fixes and features upgrades. Well worth the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ranking/ladder system please! April 15, 2011
By ceestep
I'd give it 5 stars if it had a ranking system. I used to play WordFeud but it lacks cumulative stats. I wouldn't trust anything from Zynga installed on my phone. Wordsmith is the best scrabble-clone going for Android right now. Build in a rank system and it would be golden!

5.0 out of 5 stars Long-Distance Scrabble with Friends April 15, 2011
This is way better than the little hand-held video games. I play Wordsmith on the Droid with my long-distance friends. You actually have to use your brain to try to win...not just eye-to-hand coordination. Try to do that with a Nintendo.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great unitil it was broken and never updated again August 28, 2012
This was the best scrabble-like app going util the last update broke it. It used to be able to run on multiple devices, but now if you try, none of them ever update again, even if you turn push notifications off. And what's worse, the app has not been updated since. It seems to be a dead app.

1.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE November 26, 2011

Games constantly get stuck.

For example, if I am playing 6 simultaneous games with a friend, I'll only see 3 on me, so I ask, "do you see any games on you" and she'll say, no, all 6 are on you. That's when I know it's time to un/reinstall the app. Then I'll see all 6 games on me.

Today, January 25th, my friend and I have un/reinstalled this app a combined 6 times. After the last reinstall, I played all 6 games that were on me, and 3 of them got stuck on my friend after the very next play.

Utterly ridiculous.

I have since written to customer support asking for a refund because this has been happening since I have owned the app, and it is only getting worse... not better.

Also, the server constantly is not connecting. This is not just me and my phone because my other friends notice the same thing... one on Kindle Fire, another on Motorola Droid X or II or something, and I'm on a Motorola Droid as well. It doesn't seem to be the device that's the problem.

No paid app should have such problems; I'd expect this out of a Beta version. I like scrabble type games, but these problems with Wordsmith have not only zapped the fun, but actually frustrated the hell out of my friends and I.

I hope all of you pay more attention and notice the same thing; and I further hope many of these 5 and 4 star reviews will change to 1 and 2 stars so the developers will actually take notice and do something about it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustrated! April 19, 2012

Since the last couple of updates, the game has become unplayable. Other players don't see the words I play and vice versa. Notifications also not working reliably.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great App! Fun for All! Permissions Fixed already! April 15, 2011
Verified Purchase
This is a great app, very similiar to Scrabble, but more fun because you can be across town (Or Country for that matter) and still play a game with your friends or loved ones. The paid version will even keep track of your statistics over time. This includes wins, loses, ties, best word played, best word score, date of best word played and scored. It will also keep a running script of your games, who you played against and what the outcome was. Don't want to be reminded that you have lost the last 5 games against your smart-alec cousin, you can delete it. =)
As far as the permissions issue; it has been fixed already with version 1.1.3.
Amazon will either download this version to you directly, or update it after your initial download.
I downloaded the original app, installed and then refreshed my updates page and it showed an update for wordsmith.
I installed the update and was on the newest version.
Great app! Lots of fun for those who enjoy word games.

It's an online multiplayer game, folks
Having played this for about six months, I really don't get the people taking a dump all over it. Agreed that there should at least be an option for the game to timeout in some manner. I play Word with Friends, Wordsmith, Word Feud, Droid Words, and Lexulous (yeah, I like scrabble type games)... Read More
