Don't call it a comeback

Wordsmith balances traditional board play with a rich online gaming community. Play with up to four other opponents. Invite your friends or pick a random user. Connect Wordsmith with your Facebook profile for even greater social connectivity. Use the chat feature to discuss advanced game strategies or two letter words beginning with the letter X.

Switch through up to 60 ongoing competitions with Wordsmith's easily manageable game listings. Matches are listed under two tabs: Your Turn and Their Turn. Wordsmith uses Push Notifications to alert you to when it's your turn. Fit game play around your schedule.

Double Score Letters, Triple Score Words

Wordsmith features all of the key components one would expect from a crossword-esque Android app, from double letters, to triple words, to the star-designating starting square. It's a world where success is not based on social confidence or athletic prowess, but on one's mastery of words involving deep alphabet letters. From improving vocabularies to improving mental dexterity, Wordsmith is an essential Android gaming experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the word games enthusiast April 5, 2011
By ping
Bought the paid version way back in October 2010 after playing with the free version for a week or two. The game has only gotten better since then. Beats the competition out of the water, including the overhyped and underwhelming Words with Friends. This is much much better.

After playing with Wordsmith for as long as I have, it's hard to go back to the competition. Features like the score previews and player stats are easy to get used to, and are really hard to get by without!

I'm a fairly serious Scrabble player and have played practically every Scrabble-like game (WWF, Wordfeud, Droidwords, etc) in the Android market; I bought the Scrabble game for my Kindle and own 3 physical Scrabble sets (standard, travel folio, pocket editions). I recommend Wordsmith unequivocally.

The developer keeps the app updated regularly, with both fixes and features upgrades. Well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long-Distance Scrabble with Friends April 15, 2011
This is way better than the little hand-held video games. I play Wordsmith on the Droid with my long-distance friends. You actually have to use your brain to try to win...not just eye-to-hand coordination. Try to do that with a Nintendo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ranking/ladder system please! April 15, 2011
By ceestep
I'd give it 5 stars if it had a ranking system. I used to play WordFeud but it lacks cumulative stats. I wouldn't trust anything from Zynga installed on my phone. Wordsmith is the best scrabble-clone going for Android right now. Build in a rank system and it would be golden!

1.0 out of 5 stars Great unitil it was broken and never updated again August 28, 2012
This was the best scrabble-like app going util the last update broke it. It used to be able to run on multiple devices, but now if you try, none of them ever update again, even if you turn push notifications off. And what's worse, the app has not been updated since. It seems to be a dead app.

Since the last couple of updates, the game has become unplayable. Other players don't see the words I play and vice versa. Notifications also not working reliably.

It's an online multiplayer game, folks
Having played this for about six months, I really don't get the people taking a dump all over it. Agreed that there should at least be an option for the game to timeout in some manner. I play Word with Friends, Wordsmith, Word Feud, Droid Words, and Lexulous (yeah, I like scrabble type games)... Read More
