Finally...The sequel to ALL THE RIGHT REASONS

FOUR LITTLE WORDS... Fifty-something and fabulous, author Toni Shaw has it all:two grown daughters on their own, a hot new novel in stores, and a gorgeous man in her bed. It's been three years since the father of her children swept back into her life, and things between Toni and Charles Waters are better than ever---until he pops an utterly unexpected question: Will you marry me?

CAN CHANGE HER LIFE FOREVER... Charles let Toni get away once before in his life, and he intends never to make that mistake again. The trouble is convincing Toni to trust him again. But when she suddenly announces she's taking an extended trip to Africa-alone-there's only one thing Charles can do: let her go and hope she'll find her way back to where she's meant to be...at his side, forever.

That night, Toni was wearing a black sheath with a square collar that revealed her bosom to perfection. Her short black hair was combed away from her face, the silver streaks in it glittering. Pink diamond stud earrings were in her ears, and a single pear-shaped diamond in the same hue hung suspended around her neck. Spencer was especially debonair in his dark suit with crisp white collar and no tie. The dark skin glimpsed at his throat excited Toni. She knew how he liked her to undress him, and she always started with the buttons on his shirt...

"Well, if it isn't my old friend, Spencer Taylor," a masculine voice said. Toni drew her eyes away from Spencer's and peered up into the face of Charles Edward Waters. Her gaze narrowed. Apparently he hadn't gotten the message she had sent him with the emerald necklace he had messengered to her that afternoon. When she returned the necklace a few minutes later, she had written, The answer is still no. I will not go out with you. Give it up, Chuck. She had thought her play on words, up Chuck for upchuck, was pretty amusing. His being there proved he hadn't agreed.

Not knowing the dynamics of the relationship between Chuck and Toni, Spencer saw only Charles Edward Waters, a patron of the arts--a man who had, in fact, sponsored a concert in Boston that had helped propel him to the level of success he was presently enjoying. He owed Charles a debt of gratitude. He rose and offered Chuck his hand. "It's a pleasure to see you again, Charles." Toni didn't know what to do. Should she pretend she had never met Chuck before? She had not seen fit to drag her past with Chuck into her relationship with Spencer. There had been no press conferences after Chuck came back into their lives. So no one except the family knew that Chuck was the father of her daughters. Toni liked it that way. The fewer people who knew, the better. Chuck wanted to shout it from the rooftops, but out of respect for her, he had agreed to keep the news within the family unit.

"Let me introduce you to my lady," Spencer said proudly, gesturing to Toni. Toni smiled at Chuck and surprised herself by saying, "We've met." A nonplussed expression fleetingly ran across Spencer's features, but soon he was his amicable self again. "I didn't know," he said. Then, gentleman that he was, he offered Chuck a seat. "Please join us, Charles. I'd like to hear where you and Toni met." "I'd be delighted," Chuck returned, his light brown eyes raking over Toni's face, causing her to blush against her will. Chuck sat on Toni's right. Spencer was on her left, leaving her in the uncomfortable position of being in the middle of two men whom she had had as lovers. The waiter who was servicing them that night appeared and asked if he could bring Chuck anything. Chuck ordered a coffee and settled down to tell Spencer where he and Toni had met. "We were college sweethearts," he informed Spencer, sitting up straigher on his chair and defiantly looking Toni in the eyes as if to say, Deny it! She calmly turned her head to smile at Spencer. "It was short-lived." "But memorable," Chuck countered. Toni leaned toward Spencer. "I was young and foolish." "You were young, but you've never been foolish, Toni," Chuck said. His smile had never left his face, though it was calculating. Toni wondered just how far he was prepared to go in order to make his point. The waiter arrived with the coffee she and Spencer had ordered before Chuck had horned in, and Chuck's as well. They remained silent until the waiter departed. "Well," Spencer said, trying to keep the nervousness out of his voice, but failing. "It must be pleasant seeing each other after all these years." "Oh, it is indeed," Chuck said. It was the tone of his voice, soft and filled with longing, that made her turn. His eyes pierced her soul with their intensity, and she couldn't look away. "I was wondering, Toni, how are your daughters, Georgette and Briane? Did their father ever come forward to claim them, or did he remain an abject coward?"

He wasn't telling Spencer anything he didn't already know. Toni had explained to Spencer about the circumstances surrounding the births of her daughters. But with his bold words, Chuck was putting her on notice. He was finished beating around the bush and was declaring all-out war. No. He would not embarrass her in front of her erstwhile paramour, because that was how he thought of Spencer--as a former lover of Toni's, not as anyone to think of as the competition for her affections. She felt the confidence coming off him like waves of emotion that night. That was how he seduced her, with his intentions.

More About the Author

I've always loved stories. When I was too young to read I loved listening to my parents and grandparents tell stories. I come from a family of storytellers. On lazy Sunday afternoons we would sit on the porch and the adults would try to top each other with outlandish tales. Some of them had a moral, some were funny, some were scary but all of them were completely enthralling. When I learned to read you could always find me with a book in my hands. The library was my favorite place in the world, and it still is. From the time I was seven, I was writing my own stories. At first they were very short and usually mimicked some fairy tale I'd read or heard. Then when I was in high school I started writing longer stories with romantic themes. A shy, awkward teen, the heroines in my stories were never like me, they were outgoing, together, and always got the cute guy. To date, I'm the author of sixteen novels and nine short stories that were included in some very interesting anthologies. I am blessed to be able to do what I was born to do: write. Because I never take my blessings for granted, I work hard at my craft and I hope it's reflected in the stories I produce. Ultimately, I write stories that I want to read. I'll say to myself, "You know, I've never read a book about African American shapeshifters, or a book in which the sea is so prominent it's like one of the major characters." So I wrote OUT OF THE BLUE. I hope you'll read it if you haven't had the chance to do so. Or I'll think to myself, "What if angels and humans mated and their offspring were still living on Earth?" So I wrote AVENGING ANGEL in the anthology, CREEPIN'. Ideas come to me in the strangest ways. Sometimes I dream them up, literally. I've always had very vivid, colorful dreams. They're better than any movie. And I remember every detail of them when I awaken. This is why I keep a dream journal. And I always suggest to aspiring writers that they keep one. You never know where your next idea is going to come from. Most of all, though, my ideas come from everyday people. Normal people who are really much more interesting than they think they are. I believe we are all special and we all have a story to tell. What's yours?

5.0 out of 5 stars ~THE LOVING NEVER STOPS!!~, June 30, 2001

This review is from: A Second Chance At Love (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
In this sequel to ALL THE RIGHT REASONS, Ms. Sims really outdid herself. Toni and Chuck proved that age only makes the loving better, and they do with style. Ms. Sims smoothly brought us up to date on Toni, Chuck, Bree, and Georgie. With the addition of new characters like the beautiful, yet smart Dr. Solange Dupree and the handsome, mysteriously sexy and disappearing(you'll have to read the book to get that) Rupert Giles along with a handsome villain Yusef, and his beautiful wife Salah. This story has everything you look for in romantic suspense, plenty of romance with love scenes and suspense that will both have you waiting to exhale.

The plot and storyline is so well written that in the end I was feeling sorry for Yusef and Salah and wishing them a happy ending. Maybe Ms. Sims will see fit to give them at least an honourable mention in the next installment, hint hint (I certainly hope there is one in the making). :-)

Be sure if you are one of the few who haven't read ALL THE RIGHT REASONS to pick it up along with A SECOND CHANCE AT LOVE and get caught up in a ride you will not want to end.

Another good read by this author is THE KEYS TO MY HEART in the A VERY SPECIAL LOVE anthology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhh, Second Chances Are So Good!, January 22, 2001

Can a woman trust a man after he has committed the crime of turning his back on her - leaving her to bear and raise his child all alone? Charles Waters is betting his heart that Toni Shaw's love for him runs deep enough to forgive him his past transgression. Toni, on the other hand, is not so sure. Yes, she's let Chuck back into her life - into her bed. But now he wants entry to her heart - forever!

Janice Sims has done it once again with this long awaited sequel to her novel "All The right Reasons." For those readers who wanted Toni Shaw and Charles Waters to have their very own story; in "A Second Chance At Love" Ms. Sims gives you that, plus much, much more!

In this novel Toni finds herself intrigued by the mysterious disappearances of valuable fertility statues. She flies (and lovesick Chuck follows) to Miami to see the last of the statues - which is owned by Dr. Solange Dupree. Once there, they find that they are caught up in one man's missguided plan to collect all of the statues - at any cost! Their adventures eventually take them to the shores of the Motherland - Africa.

Anyone who's read any of her work knows that when you read a Janice Sims novel, you're going to get a great story. No disappointment here! The storyline is a mixture of mystery, intrigue and drama. And ohhhhh the romance! I have never read one romance novel with so many great couples - Mmmmmmmm! The diverse characters and sub-plots make this novel read like a soap opera! I was literally shouting aloud at the characters - good thing I was alone!

If you're expecting this latest offering from Janice Sims to simply be about a couple in their fifties rediscovering their love for each other and then settling into their rocking chairs, you'd better hold on...you're in for one wild ride!

And to answer your question Ms. Sims - Yes! I definitely think Solange and Rupert should have their own book. Especially since Rupert has propositioned and Solange has...well, I'd better not spoil it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Wonderful!, March 2, 2001

This review is from: A Second Chance At Love (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Sims has done it again! "A Second Chance At Love" is a great book. Toni Shaw and Charles Waters make a loving couple. They show that true love is indeed worth waiting for. Not only does the reader gets to find out what happens with Toni and Chuck, but also what happens with Georgie and Clay and Bree and Dominic.

In this story, Bree is definitely the heroine. She went through some tough times, but her acting skills helped her endure. Also, with Bree's situation, Dominic comes to realize that he does truly love Bree and wants her completely in his life. Not only does Toni and Chuck have a second chance at love, but so does Bree and Dominic. Each couple realize the importance of love and what each one means to the other.

Georgie and Clay also have a happy ending. After losing his first wife to violence, Clay has to overcome his fears for Georgie's safety. Georgie and Clay also have a love that's made to last a lifetime.

Ms. Sims has given the readers an update of Toni Shaw and her family's story originally began in "All the Right Reasons," but she has also given the reader intrigue and adventure. Rupert is a dashing, mysterious man that has Solange thinking romantic thoughts of him. Is there perhaps an upcoming story regarding Rupert and Solange? If so, I am sure I would truly enjoy their story as well as the others books by Ms. Sims.

Good luck, Ms. Sims and keep up the writing.
