This is the second book in the chance trilogy By Christy Reece and they have been great. I've thoroughly enjoyed them, but even before this trilogy I read most of the books involving the LCR people. They were all excellent. This one was about Cole and the guilt he felt after being captured and drugged while on a rescue mission and while drugged killing an innocent man. He feels responsible for the man's family and decides to watch over them. When Last Chance Rescue finds the doctor responsible for the drugging and killings Cole is asked to help with the final ending of this man. Once away Keeley is left without protection and her children are stolen from her and sold. Cole is then determined to find and return the children to their mother. He has a secret that he is unable to share with Keeley and over time finds he has fallen in love with her. A story of revenge and jealousy. It was a very satisfying read and held my attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five stars is just not enough!, March 24, 2010
This review is from: Second Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
Although it is true this has been a favorite author and series of mine from the beginning, this book is perhaps my favorite of the lot. Although it is not necessary to have read the earlier books, having read the first trilogy, especially Run to Me, sure adds to the story. Getting 'reaquainted' with characters from the earlier books is a definite plus.
Cole's story is full of emotion. If ever a man deserved a happy ending, it's Cole. He is at once a tough agent and a gentle man with the kids in the story. Keeley is a perfect blend of vulnerability and strength.
As for deciding who the villian is, I changed my mind several times during the story. Although the identity of the villian was not a total surprise, the fact that I was never quite sure who it was, made the story that much more fun.
This books is dark in places and incredibly sweet in others. My advice? READ THIS BOOK!
Can't wait for the next in the series, LAST CHANCE, due out next month.

5.0 out of 5 stars No "Second Chance" needed -- Winner on the first try!, March 27, 2010
This review is from: Second Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
Continuing her Last Chance Rescue series, Christy Reece has written yet another great installment. Packed with emotion, Cole and Keeley's story is intense, loving, sensual, and suspenseful. CR weaves an exciting plot that tugs on a number of emotional heartstrings. There are scenes in this well-developed story that bring tears to your eyes and scenes that send chills down your spine. A return visit by some of the characters from previous books adds an extra dose of nice! Sometimes I've read and enjoyed a first book in a series only later being very disappointed by subsequent books in the same series. Not so with Christy Reece's LCR series; there's never been a disappointment. Her skill is in creating amazing stories. Romance is always front and center; however, there is always plenty of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. I find myself devouring her books as fast as my eyes can read. I highly recommend SECOND CHANCE and also the entire Last Chance Rescue series. These books are pure reading pleasure for anyone who loves the winning combination of romance and suspense.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies!, April 29, 2010
This review is from: Second Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
SECOND CHANCE is the book many readers have been waiting to read since meeting Cole Mathison in RUN TO ME, the third installment of Christy Reece's suspenseful LASTCHANCE RESCUE series. Cole Mathison has been recovering and while his memory is shot, he knows one thing - Keeley Fairchild needs his help and his help is exactly what she is going to get.

Cole Mathison doesn't know if he will ever recover all of his memories. While some things are fuzzy and he doesn't recognize a lot of people who seem to recognize him, he does know one thing. The death of Keeley's estranged husband is completely on his shoulders and not a day has gone by that Cole hasn't thought of his part in killing an innocent man. When he receives word that Keeley's children have been kidnapped, nothing stops Cole from becoming involved - not his fellow team members, not his memories, and most certainly not his conscience. Promising Keeley that he will help her get her children back, Cole doesn't expect to fall for Keeley - and that is the hardest part of this mission for him to handle - deceiving Keeley concerning his part in the death of her children's father.

Keeley's life is now a nightmare. Who would want her children? Why now after the death of her husband? With no one to turn to, Keeley allows Cole Mathison and his fellow team members to infiltrate her life and conduct their own investigation. Cole Mathison, a man who has seen evil, works his way under Keeley's radar and into her life. She finds herself falling in love with this sexy but serious man. Lies come back to haunt even the innocent and when Keeley finds out exactly who and what Cole is responsible for doing, she immediately throws him out of her life but regrets surface until nothing matters but finding Cole and telling her exactly how she feels.

I have loved Cole Mathison since I realized who he was in RUN TO ME. At first I was shocked at how easily he conducted himself under the influence of a madman's drugs. And then I realized that the `real' Cole is nothing like the drugged one. The real Cole has yearnings and fears and inadequacies that he hopes stay hidden. The real Cole desires the one thing he knows he shouldn't - Keeley Fairchild. With the real kidnapper close by watching every move, and no, I didn't guess who it was until the VERY end of SECOND CHANCE, Cole and Keeley have to grasp and hold onto every kiss, thought, and touch. Against the odds these two characters who have suffered so much find the strength and fortitude to take a chance on the scariest emotion of all - love.

The release of LAST CHANCE, the sixth installment, is right around the corner! If you haven't read this amazing series, I urge you to do so now by starting at the beginning with the book that made me a fan of Christy Reece, RESCUE ME. You won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait, December 3, 2010
This review is from: Second Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved Run To Me and looked so forward to this book to find out what happened to Cole. But not only did I find out about Cole, I also got a great mystery with twist and turns that left you thinking you had it figured out when you really didn't. A really aweful villian and some side villians that "you loved to hate" and thrown into all that some really great writing that just clicked and had the whole book playing like a movie in your mind. A must buy. I am never disappointed in Christy Reece's writing.

Oh, and if you go to her site and follow her on one of the social medias (I Liked her on FB) she keeps you up on what she is writing and makes the waiting for her next book a whole lot easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Chance- A Joyfully Recommended Title, July 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Second Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
Keeley's life has suddenly gone out of control. A single mother since the death of her estranged husband, Keeley's life revolves around her twin girls and her happiness as a mother is complete. Until her life changes in an instant when masked men accost her in a park during a picnic and kidnap her children. Screaming for help and fighting off her attackers, Keeley's heartache at the loss of her children almost breaks her. Almost. Finding strength and courage, Keeley vows to find her children and so who does she turn to in her time of need since no one seems to be listening in her hometown? Last Chance Rescue.

Filled with guilt for the things he did while under the influence of a horrible drug, Cole Mathison is barely able to function at times because of headaches and what-ifs. He has spent the past year secretly watching the family of the innocent man he executed while being held captive and if he is honest, he feels things for the woman he made a widow. With the kidnapping of Keeley's daughters, Cole vows to find them no matter what. His resolve to unite Keeley with her twins is resolute and unwavering. And though he doesn't count on falling in love with Keeley, he does. And that's when the lines between redemption and forever blur.

In book three of Christy Reece's Last Chance Rescue series, my heart broke for Cole. Not only was he guilty of horrendous deeds, but the woman he was married to didn't love him. I wanted to rage at the unfairness of his life and then Second Chance was released. And honestly? Cole has been given another chance at happiness. I can't imagine anyone deserving it more.

Powerful emotions and secretive lives are the catalysts that keep the plot flowing in Second Chance. No. That isn't exactly true. It is the powerful emotions and rockin' good plot involving secrets and lies that makes Second Chance a must read. The storyline of Second Chance will dazzle and entice. The passion of Ms. Reece's main characters is steamy - she is THE author to read for romantic suspense. I whole heartedly and joyfully recommend Second Chance. It is just that amazingly spectacular!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great addition, perfect hero, June 5, 2010
By
This review is from: Second Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
This great addition to the Last Chance Rescue series brings back my favorite characters Eden and Jordan who started it all and almost seems like a reunion book since we have the leads from the first three novels all involved. I especially enjoy when the LCR teams are working together and helping one another out and it's great to get updates on each of their lives. If you haven't read Run to Me, that would be a good book to read before starting this one, and heck, if you've missed any, you should read all of them, but I digress. With an interesting cast of characters such as the wicked mother in law, secretive friends, and crazy townspeople, you never really know who the enemy is, although it's not surprising when you do.

Second Chance is Cole Mathison's story. Cole Mathison could have quite possibly had the most tortured life out of any of these characters. As a high school teacher, he gave failing grades to some jocks who were subsequently kicked off their team. To get revenge these kids broke into his home and killed his wife and daughter. Years later, he works for LCR has a highly trained operative. After getting out of a failed second marriage to his best friend's girl, he's captured, drugged and tortured while on a mission. Normally LCR would not stop until one of their own is rescued, however LCR believed him to be dead. As a result, he was drugged into losing his memories and honed to a conscienceless killer. When Cole is finally rescued, he slowly recovers his memories and remembers some of the things he's done including kidnapping and killing an innocent civilian. This haunts him like no other deeds he's had to reconcile with during his capture. Periodically, he oversees and checks in on the widow and two daughters of his victim and when it turns out that the two daughters are kidnapped, Cole demands that he get assigned to recover them to help ease his guilt. This is how he gets involved with Keeley Fairchid.

Keeley Fairchild will stop at nothing to get her daughters back but as the weeks and months pass by, the FBI seem to be moving on to other urgent cases. Instead of losing hope she finds herself inspired by the conviction and commitment of Cole Mathison to return her girls to her. As they live and work together Keeley has a moment of vulnerability and seeks comfort from Cole, the very man responsible for killing her husband a year earlier, unbeknownst to her. She's lost her husband, her two girls, and her own life is in danger since she managed to escape the kidnapping, but through it all she manages to strengthen her character through her ordeal and grasps at a chance for love.

I didn't care for Keeley in the beginning and as the details unfold, she's made poor decision after poor decision with a giant does of bad character judgement but she does manage to learn from mistakes and finally gets it right. Cole is easily one of the most giving and loving men there are and has suffered so much, you just want to comfort him. A great story, it's amazing how thoroughly entertaining these books can be when the plots are filled with rape, murder, kidnapping and every other attrocious crime. A must read.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'd give this one a second read!, June 4, 2010
This review is from: Second Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
In the 5th novel of the Last Chance Rescue series... we find Cole Mathison (who had a semi-staring role in the third book, Run to Me) on a personal mission to protect the widow of the innocent man he killed in the aforementioned novel. Reece does a pretty good job of rehashing the details of what happened to Cole, however, I was pleased I had already read the prior novel and I recommend that you do to. Not only is this story a sequel or continuation of that story, but it also includes a lot of past characters from the first three novels. The web has gotten deeper and far more complex!

This was probably the "gentlest" of the six books. Here we found widowed Keeley in need of Last Chance Rescue help. And she's had a bit of a hard time. Not only was her husband kidnapped and murdered the year before, leaving her the single mother of two adorable twin girls, but now her daughters have been kidnapped and sold into black market adoption. In comes Cole to the rescue- he's a LCR operative with a mission that has an emotional tie to the case. He is guilt-ridden to the point of obsession with the knowledge the he murdered Keeley's husband (however unintentionally).

Keeley is a different type of Reece heroine. She is a full-figured mommy, a small town lady, and she's smart as a whip. She's a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who married the wealthiest, most dashing man in town... and now has to seemingly suffer for it. It seems everyone either loves Keeley or hates her... and the mystery deepens as Cole tried to get to the root of story and find the person responsible for kidnapping Keeley's girls.

Watching the mystery unravel was anticlimactic compared to Reece's other books, however, that being said, this still made for a beautiful and emotional read. Cole's angst is a deep one- he feels massively guilty for the murder of Keeley's husband but worse, he's falling for her and her for him. Will she understand when she finds out his role in her husband's death?

Somehow, however, this novel falls short of really FEELING that angst. In comparison, reading about Ethan's guilt with Shea in Run to Me was so deep and emotional, and his guilt was about a far lesser sin. I never really felt the depth of emotion with Cole that I did with Ethan. Further, Cole's baggage is over-the-top horrendous. It actually crosses over into ridiculous at some points... but he's so withdrawn and detached from his past, he doesn't really relay the experience well. In fact, he relays it so calmly and directly, Keeley even nods in acceptance and calmly listens to his horrific tales and doesn't even seem that shocked- even though she's supposedly sheltered and naive.

Even so, this was definitely a page-turning, delicious read and is highly recommended!
