5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing show for all prog-lovers, June 3, 2009

This review is from: The Second Death of Pain of Salvation (CD) (Audio CD)
Like likeminded musical explorers Roine Stolt (Flower Kings) and Neal Morse, the highly talented Daniel Gildenlöw has found a natural outlet for his vast musical scope in the form of progressive rock. Mixing all kinds of musical ideas, odd metres and weird chord progressions suddenly giving way to accesible, pop-like melodies. Played by virtuosic and courageous musicians.

Although his restless musical experiments seem to have alienated some fans, here Pain Of Salvation is caught before a highly enthusiastic and appreciative audience at the famous Paradiso in Amsterdam. And they are rewarded by a stunning concert filled with great solos, fine interplay and a wide selection of material, though the emphasis is on tracks from the rather illreceived "Scarsick" album.

There is a strong element of Frank Zappa like musical madness, while the lyrics seem to deal with a world gone mad and the consequences for the individual in todays society. Also a fine sing along version of Leonard Cohen's "Halleluja".

All in all this kind of release show how vital and alive progressive rock still is.

This show is also available on DVD.
