Good Stories Put to Music,

I took my two teenagers to see Reliant K in concert and "Ruth" opened for them. I had never heard of them before the concert. We all really enjoyed them in concert so I ordered this CD. Interestingly enough, we listen to this CD more than we listen to Reliant K anymore. They have an alternative style, catchy tunes, and good stories set to music that is contemporary and modern, and have a "live" sound that is reflected in their concerts. My family hopes they will continue to record and stay true to their sound, meaningful lyrics, and conveying this passionately through their music.

Great, uplifting debut,

I bought this CD a while ago after hearing "Cross the Line" on the radio and have not regretted doing so. The genre is along the lines of Christian (strong emphasis on the Christian) pop/rock. The singer (Dustin Ruth) has a great voice and seems to have passion for what he does. The band definitely has talent, and the songs are quite catchy. I took half of a star away from my final score because some of the lyrics are a bit bland at times and could have been improved upon (though this is not too detrimental a problem). I took the other half of a star away because a little after half-way through the album, the songs start to slow down and seem kind of repetitive. Still, Ruth has created a debut album that is worth looking into, particularly if you are looking for Christian-based, uplifting pop/rock music.

Absolutely Amazing Debut Album,

Ruth brings an honest and genuine sound to the table. They are a new and upcoming band that will most certainly succeed in the future. Dustin Ruth, the band's lead singer, came from an environment of adversity and expresses himself through their lyrics and that combined with his and the band's musical talent create a killer combination coming to your ears. Their songs while catchy, still maintain the quality of rock, but stay in your head all day. I look forward to future releases from Ruth and hope to see them live some day. These guys will soon be headliners!

I've enjoyed "You Are" by Ruth since last summer and it's my favorite song on "Secondhand Dreaming" with the extremely spiritual lyrics: "You are the waves that I feel when I'm sinking / You are the storms that I feel when I'm dying / You are God / I know / You are God", however the more I listen to the whole album, the more I like it.
Dustin Ruth writes lyrics and sings with an emotional honesty that really draws you in. "One Foot In, One Foot Out", "Cross The Line", "Always Yours", and "Mr. Turner" are my other favorites on this very solid debut album. Fans of Switchfoot, The Fray, Leeland and also Third Eye Blind and The Wallflowers will enjoy Ruth which could be an acronym for "Return Us To Him."

Dustin Ruth rocks!,

It's hard to rate music- everyone has different things they like. As for me, I'm not a music critic, but I really enjoyed this CD. The music is well done, there's a variety of songs, the lyrics are earnest and sincere, and the guys in the band are nice.
I've listened to it about a dozen times in the past 3 days- "Well With Soul" sticks in my brain in a soothing, mantra-like way. I love "Cross The Line"- the music video on YouTube is great! Thanks, Dustin, for sharing your gift with the world!

No secondhand debut, but a must have,

One Foot In, One Foot Out opent stevig stampend. Eerste radiosingle Cross This Line (...'do with me as You want me') mindert vaart, terwijl de titeltrack weer staat als een huis en Here To New York in een countryrock setting bidt om Gods hulp ('take this heart and make it clean..'). Halverwege het rustige Mr. Turner versterken drums, gitaren en piano elkaar tot de passie zoals je die van Coldplay of Keane kent. Work It Out en Standing Still zijn wat ruwer materiaal. De ballad Figure You Out ('there is no one quite like your love') legt het dubbele in Ruth's teksten bloot. Liefdesliedje en worship liggen dicht bij elkaar. In You Are is het duidelijk het laatste ("You are the waves that I feel when I'm sinking / You are the storms that I feel when I'm dying / You are God / I know / You are God"). Na het midtempo Love Me Like You Do en het open Always Yours sluit de sfeervolle mix van Starflyer 59 en Keane, Well With Soul, tekstueel een twist op de klassieker It Is Well With My Soul, af. Smaakvolle rock. Doe nog maar een tweede ronde! |
