5.0 out of 5 stars Good movie for whole family
When I saw this movie 1st time, I remember for my childhood, when I saw famous The NeverEnding Story first time. If you loved that movie, or E.T., or Indy Jones, then this movie is the right one for you. The only one thing I don't like on this movie is, it's too short. I'm glad that someone's making the movies, where the strong story and very talented actor is more than...

2.0 out of 5 stars I have to agree...
The effects were poor at times, and you could make out the stunt man in one or two shots. Even for a kids move the story line was very poor and did at times seem to come close to racism. They could have made up for the lack of action with more laughs. THE only thing good about this movie was the young actor, Jamie, who did a great, believable, job in his role. (Although...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good movie for whole family, January 28, 2003
This review is from: Second Jungle Book [VHS] (VHS Tape)
When I saw this movie 1st time, I remember for my childhood, when I saw famous The NeverEnding Story first time. If you loved that movie, or E.T., or Indy Jones, then this movie is the right one for you. The only one thing I don't like on this movie is, it's too short. I'm glad that someone's making the movies, where the strong story and very talented actor is more than action superheroes with their blazing guns.

Jamie Williams (Mowgli) is very talented actor. It's very believable that he's real feral child in many scenes. His ability to play character's emotions and his body speech is exceptional. Althought he was 10 and half years old only, he performed all stunt scenes in the movie. In few scenes, he didn't show the fear, when he was about 5 feets far from the adult tiger, who was on thin lead only. Some review says that fake animals are used in some animal scenes. It's not true. They used blue screens and split scenes few times, but all animals in the movie are real.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Adventure!!!!!!!, May 3, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Second Jungle Book (DVD)
This movie is absolutely great. My parents recently bought it on DVD and we all watched it. It's a great movie which would deserve a higher rating. Many people said that it is boring. I think they have said that because in the first 20 minutes of the movie no one is talking plus Mowgli isn't talking. Well guess WHAT, Mowgli isn't supposed to talk because he was raised by wolves. DUH!! So I really think people should give this movie a higher rating.
This movie is the second jungle book movie where Mowgli finds himself wanted for a circus. Baloo and his other friends want to rescue him and save him. This is a good movie and demands our attention. I suggest that everyone should buy it or at least rent it. I am grateful my parents bought it for me. It's GREAT!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars See this movie on DVD!, October 25, 2002

DENNIS P OBRIEN (London, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Second Jungle Book (DVD)
First of all, I would like to say, PLEASE do not be misled by the few negative customer reviews. Check out the honest editorial review. Also, I was puzzled to see only a few customer reviews for such an amazing and worthwhile film.

This film is a prequel to Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, the live action film released by Disney. It looks and feels very similar to that film, as it was produced by the same team.

My family was familiar with the VHS version. We loved the film, but we noticed some of the limitations in a few of the special effects sequences. We were also painfully aware of the limitations of the full frame format.

This is truly one of the most stunning films we have seen on DVD! The improvement over the VHS version has to be seen to be believed. This is not just exaggerated praise. We have watched well over 200 movies on DVD, and this is one of the best.

The film was shot entirely on location in beautiful Sri Lanka, and the cinematography is breathtaking. Now, thanks to the widescreen DVD format, you can see it all.

Also, in widescreen you can now see all the actors. Many scenes were shot with four or five actors on screen. In full frame, two or three of them are always getting cut off.

Many of the animal scenes have four or five species of animal in the picture. On VHS, you could only see two. Now you can see the whole stunning scene.

The movie has everything -- humor, drama, adventure, excitement, -- and a hauntingly beautiful musical score. At the end, the entire family had tears of joy in their eyes.

Special mention must be made of young Jamie Williams, who gives a most convincing performance.

The film also stars Bill Campbell (The Rocketeer), and Roddy Macdowell in one of his last film roles.

Do not let Columbia Tristar's slightly higher price tag turn you away. And if you have only seen the VHS version, you really owe it to yourself to see the widescreen version on DVD.

One word of caution. The film features Indiana Jones-like action sequences involving live pythons and cobras. It may be too intense for very young children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Although not by Kipling this is a delightful story, January 13, 2011
This review is from: The Second Jungle Book (DVD)
Despite its three-part title, this film is not written by Kipling, is not from his Second Jungle Book, and does not focus on Mowgli and Baloo. Yet, as the video cover states, it is a film that "the entire family will love."

The story in the film is entirely new, although some very small references are made to Kipling's first Jungle Book, but not the second. There are radical changes from Kipling's portrayal of the jungle boy and his friends. While the books tell of Mowgli talking to and listening to his animal family and friends, who teach him, the film has him and the animals only grunt and howl; and this together with hand gestures are the only apparent means of communication. While the python is a friend of Mowgli in the first Jungle Book, he is an adversary in this film.

This new tale is about Mowgli when he was ten years old in the jungle in India. His human parents are dead and, unknown to him, his uncle wants him dead so that he can inherit their financial fortune. An American sees Mowgli and wants to capture him to display him at the Barnum and Bailey Circus. The tiger that dies in book one, is after him trying to kill him in this film. A trained monkey escapes from its owner, is captured by the detested monkeys - as Mowgli is in book one - and Mowgli rushes to recue it. When he is in trouble, his animal friends come to help him. Their role in this film is only to scare the monkeys and humans, not "God forbid" to kill them.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an educational video., November 26, 2011

This review is from: The Second Jungle Book (DVD)
This video is great for bringing into perspective the trials, tribulations, and disputes or related hazards of living in a jungle region, and especially for a little boy whose father was killed by a tiger. This video shows a considerable number of instances of man's inhumanity to man, especially in scenes of American circus workers or Mowgli's uncle trying to capture Mowgli (put him in a cage or tying Mowgli's right bare foot with ropes to an object so he can't get away), or for that uncle to try to kill Mowgli so as to get possession of the estate that belonged to his brother who was Mowgli's father; but with assistance, Mowgli always gets away and returns to his jungle habitat with his fellow animals. You won't see XXX-rated nude Mowgli scenes in this video.

1.0 out of 5 stars A dissapointing film which is slow moving., August 6, 1999

This review is from: Second Jungle Book [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If your are looking for a good family movie, this is not acontender. Set in the late 19th century this film will quickly causethe whole family to get distracted as the plot is unimaginitive and there are no real surprises. There is also in my opinion not enough laughs,or action and this leaves the film lacking impact. The is basicly about a jungle boy (Mowgli) who is being persued by a group of men who want to either kill him or use him in a circus. The only outstanding peformance is by Jamie Williams(Mowgli)who does execellent in his movie debut. He seems to be very good working with the animals. The only reccomendation i would make would be to people who like films about animals as there are plenty of those. Another critism i would make is that some of the action scenes look a bit cheap as you can often see the 'blue screens' in the background. Overall this is a film that wold bore you to death only for the occasional cheesy looking action scenes which wake you up, and i would expect to see in a video bargain basement by now.
