The start of a great new medical fiction series!,
By
This review is from: Second Opinion (Healing Touch Series #1) (Paperback)
I read a lot of Christian books, but most of them are non-fiction. I'm very selective about the fiction I read - there's just not enough time to read all the good stuff out there! I used to enjoy reading Robin Cook's medical suspense books, so I was glad to find good medical fiction novels by Hannah Alexander! The first ones are a trilogy: Sacred Trust, Solemn Oath, and Silent Pledge. I highly recommend all these! Then the authors started a new series called Healing Touch and Second Opinion is the first book in that series. This wonderful series is centered around a small-town hospital emergency room in Missouri. The medical parts ring true for a good reason - Hannah Alexander is a pen name for a husband/wife writing team and the husband is an ER physician! These books will appeal to both men and women, and contain suspense, drama, a little romance and a lot of inspiration. The authors really make their characters come to life and you will find yourself reading quickly to find out what happens next. The only downside to these books is that, as of April of 2003, there are only two books in this series! A third will release in May - will there be more from this great author team?? Happy reading!

Lauren McCaffrey, an experienced ER nurse, arrives in Dogwood Springs, Missouri, hoping for a fresh start in her career--and a convenient escape from her family's humiliating pressure to find a husband.
Dr. Grent Sheldon transfers to the local hospital, looking for a nurturing enviroment for his twins, who are still reeling from the death of their mother. But this idyllic setting is not free of all the problems he thought he had left in the city. When the community's tranquility is threatened by a drug ring and a mysterious epidemic, Grant and Lauren find themselves racing the clock in a desperate search for answers. Second Opinion combines the best of emergency medicine and small-town America in a story of love's discovery and a faith that lasts. This is the first book in "The Healing Touch" series.

Well, to start off this is technically the beginning of a new series "The Healing Touch" however, what I didn't realize until about 1/4 into the book is that it's actually a spin off from the - (I beleive it's called) the "Sacred Trust Series". Lauren has moved from one book series to the other - which is great! Hopefully this time she'll find her real love. Definitely 2 great series to read - on top of ALL the rest of Hannah Alexanders books! They're definitely a great team and can put together some WONDERFUL books. You won't regret reading any of their books!

"That's how it works. Heart to heart. One person at a time. You look into their eyes, and then you look deeper. You see their . . . I don't know . . . I guess you'd call it their soul. You see their pain and identify. And you listen. That's the big trick." Dr. Grant Sheldon has an instinct for separating the law from mercy and holding judgement when aiming to heal the whole person. The chaplain seeks spiritual answers in the life and death crises of the Dogwood Springs ER and the complexities of his own personal love life. Bitter family fights, a runaway mother, and an ER staff member dealing with her own illness mix with competent storytelling, careful attention to medical details and bringing God into the equation.
