This book told of a group of people from Wyoming who were inspired to seek out a group of people that had not had specific earthly, but eternal, work done for them. The survivors of the Willie and Martin handcart companies had been rescued from the cold and snow in early winter conditions as they crossed the United States to join others of their faith. This was their first rescue. They, and those that died during the journey, now needed to have spiritual ordinances performed for them. This story tells of urgings the people of a Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had in realizing this work had not been done for these people and their drive to complete it with urgency and love.

This was a great read in preparation to going on our own pioneer trek. It had some very valuable insights unique to the Martin's Cove area. Loved the spirit the book portrayed of the very important work the Wyoming Stake performed.

Having visited the site and having pushed a cart up Rocky Ridge, this story of the work of that LDS Stake in Wyoming came alive for me and made me appreciate more the blessings received in view of the hardships endured.

This is an amazing compilation of the events leading up to the Second Rescue along with the stories that go along with these events. It also explains the first rescue of the Martin and Willie Handcart companies and the Lords divine intervention through the faithful members of the Riverton Stake to see that the sealing and saving ordinances were performed for those who died before reaching the Salt Lake Valley

I had no idea that this stake had taken on this worthwhile project to rescue these brave Sainnts and reunite them hopefully with there families for eternities. This is these honest goal of every Latter Day Saint member. I think this book enthuses people to continue their family history. People are always being born to families and need to be placed on your family tree.

I loved this book. It tells you detailed information about some of the pioneers that
were in the handcart companies. Then it tells the story of a stake in Wyoming who
felt like they had to do some temple work for those people coming to the west with
their handcarts. I loved it. Linda
