3.0 out of 5 stars OK, But DESPERATELY Needs a Better Editing!
Reading other reviews, I thought this should be a worthy book and bought it. I found it to be mildly worthy for readers familiar with psychic ability, but for those who read this book because they are spooked by their psychic experiences, it will be a very welcomed read. Ms. Orloff is to be commended for her dedication and candor. For me, the book wasn't riveting,...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Book to Awaken Your Intuition, March 2, 2010
This review is from: Second Sight: An Intuitive Psychiatrist Tells Her Extraordinary Story and Shows You How To Tap Your Own Inner Wisdom (Paperback)
SECOND SIGHT: An Intuitive Psychiatrist Tells Her Extraordinary Story and Shows You How to Tap Your Own Inner Wisdom (Three Rivers Press, $15) is the perfect book to awaken your intuition and inspire you to act on it.

We live in an over-intellectualized society where too many people are stuck in their heads. An Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA, Dr. Judith Orloff is a bridge between traditional medicine and the intuitive/spiritual realm. In Second Sight she helps us open to a part of us with a much wider vision than the linear mind: our inner voice.

Second Sight reads like a thriller. It is a page-turner that's hard to put down.
This pioneering book shares the struggles and well-won successes of a courageous physician who fights against a skeptical medical system to validate the power of intuition. This book will assure anyone who ever thought they were weird or crazy for having intuitive experiences that they are not.

In Part One, "Initiations," Dr. Orloff describes being an intuitive child who had premonitions about deaths and illnesses that frightened her and her physician-parents--so much so they forbade her to discuss them at home. Judith grew up believing there was something wrong with her. This part of the book is extremely personal and frank. In riveting detail she describes how an ignored premonition of a patient's suicide attempt convinced her to get beyond her fears and integrate intuition into her medical practice. And the chapter "Female Lineage" also shares the "family secret" about intuition that her mother told her on her deathbed. You'll discover what that secret is when you read the book.

In Part Two, "Teachings," Second Sight shows you effective ways to cultivate your natural intuitive abilities including how to recognize intuitive experiences in daily life such as déjà vus and synchronicities. There are particularly touching chapters on remembering dreams and embracing the spiritual path of the intuitive. She describes intuition as an outgrowth of spiritual evolution and an expansion of the heart--not just as information your pick up to win the lottery.

Second Sight is the rare book that is both inspiring and controversial. You will find a new friend in Judith as her writing style is as intimate as if she was talking to you in her living room. In this revised edition with a new introduction by Judith, Second Sight will challenge to reexamine your assumptions about the parameters of the human mind--and your own wondrous potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignite Your Intuition, March 2, 2010
This review is from: Second Sight: An Intuitive Psychiatrist Tells Her Extraordinary Story and Shows You How To Tap Your Own Inner Wisdom (Paperback)
Dr. Orloff's book, Second Sight is not only a fascinating read about her life but it helped me realize that I am not alone, or weird or really all that different. I have often had "gut feelings" about people and situations but never fully understood or followed them. Now thanks to Second Sight I learned that it is Okay to trust my inner feelings. Dr. Orloff's book taught me that intuition is like any muscle in our bodies in order to fully develop it one has to exercise it on a regular basis and was thrilled with all the wonderful tips on how to accomplish this. I know that Second Sight will be a companion book that I will refer to often on my journey of self-growth not only to guide me along the path but to also give me the encouragement to keep going.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should own this book!, March 2, 2010
This review is from: Second Sight: An Intuitive Psychiatrist Tells Her Extraordinary Story and Shows You How To Tap Your Own Inner Wisdom (Paperback)
I read this book based on a recommendation from a dear friend. That recommendation turned out to be one of the greatest gifts I've ever received in my life. This book held my interest the entire time. I took my time reading it because I was savoring the information, inspiration, etc., that I received and continue to receive. The words from this book will stay in my mind and heart forever. I plan to purchase many copies of this book to give away as gifts. Judith's writing style keeps you interested and excited about the next chapter. The experiences of her patients, and her own, are realistic and easy to relate. I can't say enough about this book. It has confirmed and explained so much of my life's path - it has given me the confirmation and courage I needed to embrace my life path.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Can Breathe Now, March 8, 2010
By
This review is from: Second Sight: An Intuitive Psychiatrist Tells Her Extraordinary Story and Shows You How To Tap Your Own Inner Wisdom (Paperback)
It's like I can take a deep breath and relax now. Someone once asked me "How do you feel when you enter a room where there's a lot of fighting and anger?" My immediate response was: "I recoil and want to run out of there." I thought everybody felt this way. Granted we all feel things up to a certain level, but the notion that I feel more than most never occurred to me. Doesn't everyone? I thought. Learning I was not alone in my experiences was a huge relief and revelation to me. When I read Dr. Orloff's book I felt I had found me. I now knew who I was and could now just simply enjoy what once seemed like a curse. Feeling everything like I have been up to date without understanding it is "crazy making." I now realized no, it's a blessing, I have been given a whole 'nother level of awareness and depth. It is powerful. Hearing Dr. Orloff explain it through sharing her life- it blew the barn doors open. She talks openly about all her experiences as well as how she deeply respects her gifts and how she has combined these with traditional methodologies. Yes, there is a feeling of "safety" that she has credentials when reading this, but for me the true safety comes in how Dr. Orloff has chosen to use her gifts and live her life. She deeply respects what she has and is grateful for it. She does not misuse what she has and adds seriousness and credibility to her spiritual gifts.

I bought a copy of this book for my sister as she feels things on the hyper-sensitive scale as I. My sister gets massive migraines and has been taking medication to manage this. After reading Dr. Orloff's story and learned how she went through a phase of medicating herself to "escape" until she new what to do with what she had been given, I related this to my sister. She opened up to me and told me more things that she had experienced as a child. I now hope that my sister will be able to understand herself an accept and enjoy these gifts she has been given.

As far as I'm concerned Dr. Orloff is opening doors for people and allowing everyone to relax as well as respect a whole arena of the human experience that typically gets shunned, and until very recently even went punished. And the biggest tragedy of all is that these gifts have gone unused, denied and ignored by many and dismissed as sillyness or even crazyness of some kind. With this openess and understanding of what is really going on many can now not waste what they have been blessed with and can live incredibly rich, powerful lives. There's nothing to reject or push away. In fact, this is cause for celebration. Thank you for sharing your story, Dr. Orloff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny and more!, October 3, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Second Sight: An Intuitive Psychiatrist Tells Her Extraordinary Story and Shows You How To Tap Your Own Inner Wisdom (Paperback)
If I could, I would purchase multiple copies of Second Sight and give them away when guided by my heart to do so.

I will confess that I am not a very active reader, hardly ever read a book cover to cover and reading a book always seems to drag on for days.

I can tell you that I read Second Sight cover to cover in two days! That is a personal triumph, but more, it is about how this book quenched some deep thirst within me. In some way, however small right now or however large and beyond my grasp that is to be realized later, I know this book is working quietly and peacefully to bring change to my inner and outer worlds.

I trust what the author has shared and appreciate how well she entwines her personal story with the deeper aspects of the book. Actually it really is one in the same, meshing so well that the glimpses into her life kept me interested in the rest. How clever indeed and how humble and real she is as a human being.

During my time with Second Sight, I didn't once feel I was being preached to or lectured to. Nor did I feel any need on the author's part to build fame or fortune from writing it. But more it felt good to be in the presence of this book, almost as though I was exploring life and living from a higher perspective, if you will.

I find the author's ability to simplify a complex range of topics very heart warming, genuine and 'right on'. At times I felt akin to her, part of her earthly extended family, as though she had shared certain passages or chapters just for me or that she was seated next to me. I feel how much she genuinely cares about her fellow human beings. How much she really wishes to help us heal and be reunited with our 'gift' or gifts. A true healer has heart, serves without need for reward and shares because they follow a Divine inspiration or compulsion to do so. They cannot not do it IF they are truly connected.

Personally I would not ever consider picking up, let alone trying to read and understand, a more technical book on the same subject. I would find them too left brained and boring for my comprehension level, too cold and impersonal to enthuse me. Let's just say the heart would be missing and I would miss that too much.

There seemed to be a good flow to the information, a good rhythm, as though I were listening to my favorite relaxing CD. And thinking about my experiences with the book, I don't believe I had to go back and reread a single paragraph, which is common for me to do. It almost felt effortless to be reading the words, and not once did I look ahead to see how much was left, as though I wished it would end soon.

I feel good. I feel that it was indeed a worthwhile investment of time and money and am considering buying another of Judith's books. But will give this one all the time it needs to permeate my every cell, which I know it will or already has. I look forward to the moments of self and life exploration beyond this moment. And am thankful to have found Judith Orloff and her 'gift', which she so kindly shares with the world. Also I find her website a vast wealth of opportunities to explore learning even more.

This is my first review of any book. I hope this review might assist just one other person to buy the book. I have found my new teacher, and if I reflect on the last month or two, I believe I asked for a new teacher to come into my human moment.

Tonight I will indeed have my dream journal, pencil and small flashlight by my bed!

Thank you Judith for your continuing desire to assist others. You are doing an incredible job, though it probably doesn't feel like work to you does it?

5.0 out of 5 stars Recognizing Intuition and Synchronicity In Your Life, March 30, 2010
This review is from: Second Sight: An Intuitive Psychiatrist Tells Her Extraordinary Story and Shows You How To Tap Your Own Inner Wisdom (Paperback)
What an intuitively divine pleasure it was to have interviewed Stephan Schwartz (mentor and remote viewing pioneer) before connecting with author, Judith Orloff, MD. In the way she encourages, "Follow the flow," I better understood ahead of time her fascinating process in psychiatry.

Stephan Schwartz, a dear spiritual colleague, is a major pioneer in remote viewing, and Dr. Judith Orloff, who with Stephan Schwartz's mentoring, developed a method for tapping into her own natural born ability for astounding psychiatric diagnosis, modeling the same remote viewing technique.

With simplicity, clarity, and presence Dr. Judith Orloff unfolds the story of her extraordinary self-discovery through, "Second Sight," and thought provoking transitions give readers and listeners space in between to recognize their own intuitive wisdom. This book is an incredible read from start to finish!

5.0 out of 5 stars Righteously Raw Chocolate Bars founder and President is a huge fan of Judith Orloff's book, December 15, 2010
This review is from: Second Sight: An Intuitive Psychiatrist Tells Her Extraordinary Story and Shows You How To Tap Your Own Inner Wisdom (Paperback)
My name is Audrey Darrow and I am the founder and President of Earth Source Organics and the Righteously Raw Chocolate Bar line of certified organic, vegan, kosher, gluten free and no refined sugar superfood truffle bars. I am also an avid reader of many authors like Chopra, Hay, Ruiz and so many more. I fell in love with Judith's Book Second Sight and I could not put it down. Her "journey to become whole" had a huge impact on me as I had recently been through the loss of my 19 year old Angel Jaymie Rose, breast cancer and divorce. I realize that I have intuitive guidance in my every day and have always had but it took me awhile to awaken to the knowledge that it was there for me. Blessings to Judith for bringing the reader into her world with such honesty and dignity. I enjoyed every single word I read. I can't wait to read Emotional Freedom next. Peace, love and joy, Audrey

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book, June 16, 2010
This review is from: Second Sight: An Intuitive Psychiatrist Tells Her Extraordinary Story and Shows You How To Tap Your Own Inner Wisdom (Paperback)
Dr Orloff's Second Sight captivated me from the first chapter. She goes into her early life and confusion surrounding her intution to her adult life and decision to become a Doctor. I found the accounts of her intuitive experiences fascinating. Dr Orloff is very honest about her life as an intuitive and Psychiatrist and how she managed to combine both to be the incredible healer that she is today. She also provides some great tools for developing your own intuition. I would recommend this for biography readers and people interested in intuition generally.
