I've known Dan for many years. He has been a board member of one of my companies and we have served on another corporate board together. Second Stage Entrepreneurship brings to life many of the great insights and experiences Dan brought to every meeting. His concise, non-nonsense delivery strips away business jargon and gets to the heart of key issues. Particularly fond of the chapter, Compete Don't Create. This is a book only a truly successful entrepreneur could have written. Get it and learn.

Unlike many business book writers today, Daniel Weinfurter has actually experienced and proven the ideas and principles that he espouses in this must-read "how to" guide for entrepreneurs or others looking to take their game to the next level. His clear-cut checklist covers not just "what" to do, but why and how to execute these strategies through illustrations taken from his own companies and those of his clients.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who agrees that people and relationships are key factors in a successful venture, especially when they are given the right framework, tools and ongoing guidance to improve themselves along with their companies. Don't miss out on this leadership handbook that delivers an impressive value ratio for new ideas / time spent reading.

Lots of people start companies. Few have the ability to grow them into flourishing enterprises. That's why Weinfurter's book fills an important niche in guiding entrepreneurs through the critical second stage of growth, from $1 million to $50 million in revenue. The path, as Weinfurter notes, is neither straight nor predictable so the ten proven strategies he describes offer a commonsense roadmap for achieving sustainable growth. I personally found the observations related to building a corporate culture very interesting reading. Weinfurter's straightforward writing style and well-selected anecdotes and examples make this book a pleasure to read.

As a consultant in the startup space and business owner, I can say that this book is a must read. The author manages to do what eludes many other business writers; put forth practical advice, in plain speak, that you can actually use. From a breakdown of the various types of funding, to a description on how to build a "conscious culture", Dan hones in on the nuts and bolts of what it takes to scale a company. One point that makes his stance particularly unique is the emphasis on the human factors related to growth and the importance on developing thoughtful people practices. This is the type of real-talk business leaders need to avoid mistakes and make better, smarter decisions as they take their organizations to the next level.

The first chapter Grow or Die really sets the stage for the rest of the book and the anecdotes within the book.

The author does a great job of telling his own personal experiences and along with other relevant stories. If you're looking into building a professional sales team and are struggling with different ways to build it (bootstrapped or non bootstrapped), then this book will definitely be valuable for you.

The book does have one chapter focused on growth marketing and the value of marketing, however a majority of the book is focused on a building a strong sales team and keeping them motivated.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is part of a company that is moving from early startup to second stage, and definitely even early startups because it will allow you to plan as you grow.
