So Much Better Than Described!,

I ordered this book because it looked interesting....well, it is! It is a wonderful idea book. It gives minimal instructions for creating garments out of found clothing (sweaters), but it is jam-packed with the neatest ideas and everything is doable with minimum skills. What is especially nice is that the photographs, writers, models are not from the U.S. It is always nice to really get a look into the style of people from different countries. Excellent book and "search" offered by amazon does not highlight the best parts. Do not go by the minimal pages that are offered as a sneak peek.

Great design ideas--no projects.,

I agree with all the other reviewers: I was disappointed that there weren't patterns, but I also think the book provides really great design inspiration. The other two books on remaking clothing that I've looked at in the past three days (Generation T and Sew Subversive) were both quite basic and not that inspiring, design-wise... this book is much more design-conscious and exciting. For someone like me who has some confidence about messing around with materials, sewing, knitting, etc., this is a great book to get ideas bouncing around. But you'll have to work out the how-tos yourself, for the most part. Definitely a keeper, and well worth a look.

I was very disappointed in this book. It tries to be cool (like it says in the title) but honestly I expected a certain level of sophistication and directions for projects. It lacks both although the book does show you how to knit and crochet, how to make pom poms and how to make fringe (all of which I already know how to do) and gives you a little history lesson all at the same time.
If this was still the 80's this book would have been perfect. If you like Cyndi Lauper (and that was the first concert I ever went to) or maybe Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan, you might like this book for inspiration. As for me, I am returning the book. I recommend both "Heartfelt" and "Felt it! Stitch it! Fabulous!" They get 5 stars from me!

i LOVE this book. received it yesterday & spent the evening enjoying the text & photos inside. it's well-written & exciting for those (like me) who love thrift shopping for items that are unique. and what could be better than taking those found objects & converting them into something even MORE interesting? this book is not for those who prefer to dress like their aunties. this book is for those who don't want to dress off-the-rack. the projects offered cannot be exactly duplicated because materials will, of course, vary. but that's the fun of it! i will use this book as a jumping-off point for my own imaginative play with fabric & design. congrats to the authors for a truly fun look at fashion variety. i look forward to their next offering!!

disappointing,

I was disappointed with this book. Part of the problem may be that I didn't realize that the book only applies to felted wool sweaters; none of the ideas presented in the book can be used for another other type of sweater. Additionally, there are very few patterns or specifics in the book; it consists mainly of photographs of projects that others have done.

This book has lots of creative ideas that you can expand on.
Good for beginners. It shows you the basics of how to knit, crochet, embroider, felt, and more. I personally loved it. Its very good for a resourceful person who loves to recycle old items.

A decent book. Very short. But if your looking for details on how to take a sweater apart, that is not what this book is about. This book is about how to use recycled material to make new, but goes into very little detail on how to take apart a sweater.
But dont get me wrong. It definetly is good at inspiring you on how to recycle previously used items.

Ideas, but very little in the way of instructions,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Second-Time Cool: The Art of Chopping Up a Sweater (Paperback)
I checked this book out from the library and was very disappointed when I pulled it off the hold shelf. This book is fairly thin, and has very little in the way of directions for you to create.
While it did have some great photos, and interesting ideas, it catered to the more extreme life style. I did appreciate the book having normal people as its models, instead of the traditional ultra skinny model. I give this book just an OK rating, and recommend that users check out Sew Subversive instead.

I was disappointed with this book. It contained lots of general info about the "art" of chopping up a sweater but did not have enough specific instructions on new projects.

Great little book with new ways of looking at those things that no longer get your juices flowing. This will help you re-design items in your wardrobe to give it a new lease on life. Great ideas and great ways to save a bundle of dough on the items you already have in your wardrobe.
