5.0 out of 5 stars Immaculate, October 28, 2007

You don't get many opportunities to hear the great Count Basie playing in a Trio but heres one. Recorded in August 1975 it features Count Basie with Ray Brown on bass and Louis Bellson on drums. So this is a very high class trio!

Always an underrated Pianist (like Duke Ellington) Count Basie here is in sublime laid-back form. Remember this was recorded only a few days after his 71st birthday, so you don't get much of his early Fats Waller influenced stride Piano. But for those in need of Stride playing, Basie does play some on track 3 'Draw', where the tempo is high and the swing non-stop. Elsewhere what you get is a man playing with subtlety and impeccable timing helped along by a great rhythm section.

This is likely to get deleted and become difficult to get hold of so buy now and have a little rare gem in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing sound, December 28, 2002

This is the second time that Count Basie meets Ray Brown and Louis Bellson to record a disc that is realy a gem.
The sound is cristal clear, the three musicians are at their best and the compositions are always played at the best tempo, giving a sound and an atmosphere that capture you from the beginning to the last note.
Ray Brown here surpasses all the records he had done before: he alternates with lavish bass lines and incredible solos...
Louis Bellson's brush work is very subtle.
And Count Basie shows here that he is not only a conductor of genius but also, and above all, a pianist of genius.

Music is a dream that can become reality if you get this disc.
