5.0 out of 5 stars ATR's Peak
I can't believe how many people don't understand this album. Sure, this isn't a mellow, soul-searching acoustic work, but it isn't supposed to be. That of course doesn't mean there isn't a place for this in the collection of every well-rounded music fan-- sometimes you just want something really hard and fast and angry, and ATR does it better than anyone. 3.0 out of 5 stars This is what I think.
I like the previous albums better. It sounds too damn clean this time around. Other problems with the album: The slogan chanting ("Throw your fists up...blah blah") is much more cheesy than on the other previous albums. Also, this album has a very pop feel to it, which is also annoying. ATR going pop is like Iggy going classical. I can't wait...

5.0 out of 5 stars ATR's Peak, July 11, 2003

I can't believe how many people don't understand this album. Sure, this isn't a mellow, soul-searching acoustic work, but it isn't supposed to be. That of course doesn't mean there isn't a place for this in the collection of every well-rounded music fan-- sometimes you just want something really hard and fast and angry, and ATR does it better than anyone. This is an absolute masterpiece, with a more professional, better-layered production quality that suits ATR perfectly. The band constantly borders on total electronic meltdown as they just radiate energy and shout some of their most coherent revolutionary lyrics and memes. Get this CD and get ANGRY.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Non-conformist Force of Angry Raver Youth has RETURNED!, May 11, 1999

ATR IS BACK!!!!!! While there are lots of similarities between this album and Burn Berlin Burn, many of the trax are dustier and harder --- lots of horror-movie screaming, harder and faster -- jumpy, too, kinda like this review. The missing star is for the lack of slow and thoroughly comprehensible trax like "Sex" which appear on Delete Yourself! (1995) and Burn Berlin Burn. ATR isn't exactly well-known for its slower recordings, but we DO know that Hanin Elias can do more than scream :)

The sequel to the original "ATR" (Track 4) is just as good, but maybe not single material (although it'd be cool). "Ghostchase" (my fave) and "Too Dead For Me" are prolly the best contenders.

Atari Teenage Riot fans, buy right NOWWWWW!!!!!

(if you're new to ATR, though, Burn Berlin Burn's prolly your best bet.) :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Harcore techno EVER, August 23, 2005
This review is from: 60 Second Wipe Out (Audio CD)
I was at first suspicious of this laubm after seeing the bad reviews on it, but after buying and listening to it I realized that this is indeed the best ATR album. I have listened to a lot of ATR's early works and have loved it intensely. I was not prepared for what they would bring on one of their later works. This album ROCKS from beginning to end!!!! It appears that they have let go of their driving house beat (the constant boom-boom-boom) for a more punk drum driven style that replicates what a normal drummer would do except in a much faster pace. ATR on this album has abandoned their repetitive punk "soundbytes", for the most part, and have opted for a rap driven fast-paced vocal assault. While the vocals are not exactly rap, they yell and scream much faster and with great abandonment. I have yet to hear anything like the tracks "No Success" and "Your Uniform (does not impress me)". Any fan of drum and bass who wishes that someome would release something harder should spring for this album. This album also appeals to punk sensabilites in its political, angry, don't give a crap lyrics and beat. This album will make you want to rip appliances out of walls and beat the crap out of yuppies. Obtain this album if you truly possess deep rooted anger and all will be free.

Then they played the revolution action video. i was glued, recorded the video to vhs, and watched it a few dozen times since. well untill i purchased 60 second wipe-out that is. it not only saved my poor eyes but allowed for an enjoyable musical expirience aswell. Thank You ATARI TEENAGE RIOT!

5.0 out of 5 stars This album is okay, but inferior to Burn Berlin, Burn!, August 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 60 Second Wipe Out (Audio CD)
Burn Berlin, Burn! makes you want to scream and shout like the band; it's just got so much energy. 60 Second Wipeout is a poppish album that has lame coruses to tracks that are supposed to be real screamers, and while the songs are okay they just don't sound as 'hard' as ATRs earlier stuff. Burn Berlin, Burn! had a lot of meaningless revolutionary rhetoric that accompanies so many punk albums made by people who are no more than kids themselves, and while it worked in Burn Berlin,Burn!, the same can't be said for 60 Second Wipeout. Sometimes I just wanted to tell the lead singer to shut her mouth. But then I remember how cute she is and I feel guilty.

I'd be curious to see if their live show falters as much as 60 Second Wipe Out does. PS I like Nic Endo's noise on the album. I just wish her sound was more discernable in the mix.

3.0 out of 5 stars Adding more noise just decreased the energy., May 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 60 Second Wipe Out (Audio CD)
Alec Empire needs to go back to the anti-technology form of production that he mastered on the first ATR album. There is just way too much going on here. Not that complex structures are a bad thing, just not on an ATR album. Maybe it was the mix? Quite possibly. What was Andy Wallace doing mixing this album? It's too thick and compressed. The "crap equipment" sounds of "Burn, Berlin, Burn!" seemed to have gotten lost in a higher recording budget and an endorsement deal with Soundcraft! And to be honest, the lack of production on the first album is what made it so enjoyable (and humorous).

The latest by ATR is still interesting, but they seem to want to be taken seriously now. At least put the vocals more up-front if you want us to really give a *&@! who you tell to "f@*k off."

3.0 out of 5 stars Atari Teenage Chaos, May 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 60 Second Wipe Out (Audio CD)
While I feel this album shows much tallent, it also shows they need much work. I am a fan of ATR and would like them to get rid of some of the background noise in their music. It is way to chaotic at times and is nothing more than pure noise, and while I like some noise this just gets plain annoying at times. Keep it up you are the cutting edge of music and I will eagerly await your next album. They have consistently shown improvement and I can only see them getting better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring the Noise, May 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 60 Second Wipe Out (Audio CD)
Please don't call 'em techno. Don't call 'em punk either. ATR always sound worst when they conform to pre-existing standards. That's why Delete Yourself and Future of War sounded so fresh at the time; they were the first to exploit the ideologies and sounds of punk with the shear bpm's of drum'n'bass. However, it's also the reason why 60 Second Wipe Out flounders when it coheres too much to the previous albums' formulas. Songs like "Revolutionary Action" and "Too Dead for Me" sound like something that would have been found on Burn, Berlin, Burn, which isn't necessarily bad, but it's a bit boring. The best songs are the ones where the annoying vocals are dropped, and the noise-makers get some time to play off of each other (e.g. "Digital Hardcore", "U.S. Fade Out"). When Nic Endo gets her Japanoise-influenced sounds on top of Alec Empire's breakbeats, it's just as fresh as, and a lot more frightening than, ATR's original ideas back in '95. Luckily for the listeners, this is without a doubt Alec and Nic's album. Hanin Elias and Carl Crack's vocals are typically overpowered in the mix, and guest vocalists Kathleen Hanna and The Arsonists simply act as references as to how unextraordinary the regular personnel are in that respect. All in all, a good choice for those who are already into noise, or those who are curious for a taste of something more extreme than typical DHR fare.

3.0 out of 5 stars Andy Wallace?, August 29, 1999

The production kills this record... a polished sound doesn't suit ATR too well. And what happened to the Anime samples?!? ATR's early stuff was great, but this is mediocre.
