I do homeschooling with my children in the summer months. They are better prepared for the grade they are entering in Sept. I LOVE the School Zone series of workbooks. This book compiles several of the smaller ones. Such subjects covered are math, english, and science. My son is just about done with 2nd grade now. The content of the book was a good reflection on the curriculum for this year.

My daughter loves this workbook. I had purchased some Kumon workbooks for summer enrichment. Both of my daughters, ages 7 and 5, found them to be very boring. This workbook is colorful, interesting, and covers a lot of ground. As my daughter says, "it's so much fun, it's not like doing work!" I will get more books in this series next summer.

Well, it's lacking in social studies, history, and spelling/vocabulary, but it has a decent amount of math and English review, and the science section features easy experiments you can do at home with your little one. A lot of the activities require further explanation than what they give, so be ready to do some actual teaching. It is sufficient for my daughter's summer review before she starts second grade, but you're looking for a more holistic education workbook (perhaps home school quality) this isn't what you need. So basically, better than a coloring book but not quite textbook.

I'm using this workbook for 'fun' along with our regular second grade curriculum. It covers topics most second grade academic standards. The work ranges from beginning to advanced so the book could cover a couple years for a child. I would recommend this book for a 'go along' for homeschoolers, summer use or for children who just workbooks.

I bought this workbook when we were evacuated from Katrina, to keep my second-grader working on schoolwork. He wasn't eager, but we did get through a fair amount of it.

My older son looked at it one day and said "That is SO MUCH BETTER than any workbook I ever had! That one looks like fun!"

By the way, if you are feeling discouraged about your kids' progress, they do learn quickly when they want to. My son refused to use any math over the number "12" for two and a half years--he caught up to 100 when I bribed him with an electronic game he wanted. He also reads computer magazines and Wikipedia and Zelda games, but hates books.

Keep trying and be patient with them. Kids' brains are easily molded to like learning or hate learning.

I have used these books since preschool for my boys. I homeschool twins and these work great as suppliments to my curriculum. They are colorful, informative, and cover most things needed during the grade level.

My daughter is going into the third grade this school year. I ordered this workbook to help review over the summer the things she has learned in second grade. This is a great workbook with lots of pages to have fun while learning.

My daughter is mentally disabled and I was looking for things to keep up with what she was learning in class to help her learn. Some of the pages are hard for her, however her younger sister who was 5 at the time was trying to go through it knowing the correct answers. There are several workbooks available, this one happen to work for us.
