Bigger is better...,
This review is from: SecondNature Dog Litter Pan (Misc.)
I bought this larger litter pan in an attempt to pacify my prima donna 4 lbs. shih tzu. Originally, I purchased the smaller pan (a.k.a Toy size); a logical choice given that she was not suppose to exceed 6 lbs. However, she has deemed the smaller pan too small, letting me know this fact by constantly pooping over the edge of the pan... Yes, there are other litter pans you can buy, but most have an area for litter debris trying to prevent the dog from tracking the litter through the house. While these debris reservoir pans look big, the actual pan is not much bigger than the "toy" size version of the Purina pan. Moreover, the reservoir is unnecessary if one is using Purina puppy litter, and Purina puppy litter is the only option for those with small dogs--scoopable litters will get up the dog's nose and cause additional problems. Final conclusion: if your dog is a circler, spend little more and get the larger pan.

Perfect size to hold a wee wee pad!,

I love this product because it is the perfect size to hold a wee wee pad. My toy poodle is trained to go there. It is practically unbreakable, easy to clean, and I don't have to put the wee wee pad on the floor.

Not just for dogs!,
This review is from: SecondNature Dog Litter Pan (Misc.)
I bought this for my bunnies as a Hay/Litter box and works great! Much better than using a cat litter box since it's almost square and has a nice opening for them to get in and out. Next time I will buy the bigger size though since the inside dimensions are smaller. Still a very good product to keep the hay in one place instead of going all over.

Great System!,

This review is from: SecondNature Dog Litter Pan (Misc.)
I purchased the miniature litter pan for my new puppy (Min Pin). I took the advice of a previous reviewer, and purchased a larger size than what was recommended; I am pleased with that decision. My puppy took to the pan immediately for pooping, but urinating took a few days. I later read on the Purina site that some puppies do not like to urinate and poop in the same litter pan, and in such cases to purchase two and place them side by side. Had I purchased the toy litter pan, I probably would have ordered another immediately, but since I did not, I remained persistent, and after about four days she was using the pan for both. Luckily, I am on summer break, and able to spend the entire month of August at home with her.As for the litter, I purchased the 12lb bag for a trial run. My 1.18lb puppy's solid waste blended in with the litter pellets because it was either similar in size or smaller. Additionally, I had a hard time noticing the wet pellets even if I was standing right there when she urinated. It turns out that the liquid gets soaked up by the pellets at the bottom and disintegrates into dust. It was nearly impossible, and messy to scoop even though I purchased the largest scoop I could find on Amazon.com (Booda Scoop'N Hide Litter Scoop, Titanium). I ended up just picking up solid waste with toilet paper, and flushing it (the pellets are flush-able). I decided to look into cat litter options, and came across a cat litter made by Purina called "Yesterday's News." It is the same material as the dog litter, but MUCH smaller in size. I have only been using it for a few hours, but it is impossible for my puppy's solid waste to be unnoticeable with these tiny pellets. It is also scoop-able because of the smaller size. I still recommend that all puppy owners who plan to use pellet litter try the dog litter first. On a few occasions, my puppy took a pellet out of the litter pan, and chewed on it; I redirected her, and the behavior has ceased. I've read that some puppies actually eat the pellets, and the cat litter litter pellets are so small, that it would be very easy for a puppy to do so without the owner noticing. As I said before, it has only been a few hours since I filled the litter pan with "Yesterday's News," and I have not noticed any differences in odor control or absorbency yet. I will edit my review if anything changes, but I plan to continue to use it instead of the "Second Nature." ***UPDATE - After four days, there was a strong odor coming from the litter pan... according to other reviews that I read, the product smells like wet newspaper. I am not sure so about that, but either way, I did not like the smell. I ended up trying "Feline Pin," which is also a pellet cat litter, and all I ever smell is pine. There is also a "Feline Pine Litter Box" that can be shaken to sift out the disintegrated pellet dust. I ended up purchasing the Midwest Quiet Time Pet Bed, Fleece, 22" x 13" (the same size as the Miniature litter pan), and placed it inside the pan, which is now my puppy's bed. I am leaving the 5-star rating, because I still think it is a great system, just not for my puppy.

Our pet started using this to lie down or to sit on until we carry him whenever he needs to weewee and poo inside this litter pan and in amatter of days he would jump into it to for his call of nature. No need to worry that he would miss the pads or pads go leaking. It's even portable so you could bring it to anywhere in your home where your pet it is. Good buy! I recommend it.

Great for potty training,

We decided to use the wee-wee pads inside the litter pan instead of the actually litter. It works like charm and contains any potential spillage or "missing." Most importantly, it helps keep the pads in place and allows us to just throw a new one on top once soiled.Only downside is he likes to lay in the pan when it has a clean pad, not sure if this is just because of where it's located in his pen or because it resembles a bed. This aside, highly effective...

I bought a large pan for my 10 weeks old puppy to train him potty. I was using a Training Sheet. That was good, but my puppy sometimes pooes outside the sheet while he meant to do it inside the sheet. By using this litter pan, he could go inside the pan and never misses the spot. This pan works for him.

My 10 lb chihuahua mix was trained to use pee pad indoors, but frequently he sprayed outside of the pad. I put the training pad in the pan, and crossed my fingers hoping that he will use it. To my pleasant surprise, he uses it right away! His urine stayed in the pan, so I only need to clean up the pan.
