This is a good game, but it's the weakest of the Ratchet and Clank games. I would save your money and buy it used.

This is only the second "Ratchet and Clank" game that I have played, so I don't know how it compares with others (besides "Size Matters) or how it fits into the entire series.

This is sort of an action/adventure game, sort of a puzzle game. There are "Clank-only" missions that mostly involve stealth game play, some Ratchet missions that are challenges (survive so many waves of enemies) and some missions with the super-hero guy who I'm not familiar with. There is also some Patapon-style gameplay, where you have to press the buttons and match the beat.

The stealth play is pretty good. However, once you are detected, you have to start the mission over (either from the beginning or from the last checkpoint). Most of the Clank missions are stealth missions, and you don't have the option to "run and gun".

The weapons are very unique and kind of silly. Like many games, you start out with nothing and start acquiring weapons and skills. Like "Size matters", you collect bolts and trade them for weapon upgrades and ammo.

Overall, this is good game that is entertaining. I did find that the gameplay was pretty broken-up, however, which took some of the fun out of it. You go on a Clank mission, then a Ratchet challenge, then a bot mini-game, etc. I would have liked it more if it was a little more mission-to-mission type of gameplay, with the side missions and challenges spread out more.

The good:
- Funny story
- Good graphics and sound
- Lots of varied styles of game play.
- Stealth gameplay is very good. I think I enjoyed this style the most.

The bad:
- The checkpoints in the game drive me crazy. There is not enough of them. If you run into a challenging spot, you often gave to go back to the start of the mission if you die or blow stealth.
- As mentioned above, the story is a bit broken up. You jump from one style of gameplay to another every other mission or so.
- The mission menu can be kind of confusing.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best PSP games!, June 22, 2008
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Secret Agent Clank (Video Game)
Secret Agent Clank is yet another installment in the Rachet and Clank series and is one of the best. This game will have you playing as Clank for the majority of the time but once in a while you will be playing as Rachet or Qwark. The Qwark missions are humorous and fun but the Rachet missions are just plain bad .You are just in a big arena, fighting wave after wave of enemies. It gets very repetitive and boring after two or three times. The real problem with this game is there are WAY too many Rachet missions and not enough Qwark missions. Luckily, most of the Rachet missions are optional but you are probably going to want to do them to get the rewards. The main story has you playing as Clank which at first is so weak that you have to go unseen but as you progress through the game and get more weapons you will be able to just run out and fight if you want. Don't get me wrong, this is a... well, a spy game. Most of the time you will have to go "undercover" to get past guards. That's not to say that this is a whole other experience than the other Rachet and Clank games. Playing as Clank is the game's best part. It has the same mechanics as the old games with some cool new stuff mixed in. Over all, if you like the Rachet and Clank series or are just looking for a great PSP game you won't be disappointed with Secret Agent Clank.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's no "Size Matters" but it's alright!, March 22, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Secret Agent Clank (Video Game)
It's a solid game with some decent humor tossed in, but it's not without its problems. For one, I have no idea how the development process for this game went. It seems to literally be a mishmash of different games. It's a staple for platformers to have varied types of gameplay, but this takes it way too far. I was often wondering when I would be able to get back to the main game. Sure, you can skip a lot of the extras, but they yield money or rewards, and as such are fairly essential to complete.

The focus on stealth isn't too bad, since in most cases it's optional. It's evident very early that unless it's a mission where you automatically fail upon blowing your cover, you've got plenty of firepower to just blast away your enemies.

It's a pretty fun game, but the time you spend snowboarding, dancing, doing Ratchet arenas, doing Quark's missions and gadgebot missions may very well exceed the time you spend in the actual game. And that to me is just silly.

In the end, when I feel the need for some portable Ratchet & Clank fun, I still go with "Size Matters". But this was a nice experiment, and I'm looking forward to knowing what High Impact Studios' next project is. It also demonstrated that the interactions between the two main characters is a large part of what makes the franchise great. Broken up like this, it loses a lot of its appeal.

My son (10 yrs old) absolutely had to have this game for Christmas. By Christmas evening he had it beat. While I love video games he really gets into, I think there's something sad about a game he can complete in a day. At least I got it at a great price.

This is a good game, but it's the weakest of the Ratchet and Clank games. I would save your money and buy it used.

PROs
-The variety of challenges are interesting.
-There are a variety of unusual weapons like in the other games.
-New commands for the Gadgebots make them more versatile and fun.

CONS
-Irritating camera movement. This is the worst feature. The camera may look one way while Clank moves another. In battle scenes, you can't always see where you are in relation to the enemy. It's can be dizzying the way the camera spins around instead of following Clanks movements. I get a headache if I play too long.
-Cheap graphics compared to the other Ratchet and Clank games.
-Story line does not flow smoothly.
-It's not always clear what you are supposed to do and there is little guidance given.
-Overall, this game feels like it was thrown together quickly without much attention to detail. I hope this is not a trend with future Ratchet & Clank games.

If you like the Ratchet and Clank series, then this game is worth playing, but I would not spend a lot of money on it. It definitely has some disappointing problems compared to the other games, but if you can get past the problems, it will keep you entertained.

3.0 out of 5 stars The secrets out., September 16, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Secret Agent Clank (Video Game)
This game is very challenging with amazing weapons and tricky patapon moves. Most of the time its stealth missions and you can play as Ratchet or Qwork. Qwork missions but playing Ratchet is just boring fighting wave after wave with weapons that barely level up, but you can upgrade them, Good thing it's an option. Clank is good in pressure and his laugh is cool, but the game is not interesting with it's complex levels, you will find youself dying repeatedly. So, if I were you, I would rent this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Ratchet and Clank Spinoff title, August 16, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Secret Agent Clank (Video Game)
As a fan of Ratchet and Clank series that has played the PSP and PS3 titles I found this title to be very enjoyable. The plot involves Ratchet being jailed in a theft and Clank's mission to save him.

Most of the game, as the title implies, is played as Clank. Along the way players get to play short side missions as Ratchet, Clank's 3 Robotic helpers and Quark. The side missions are a lot of fun. This game brings back a lot of the favorite side missions from previous Ratchet and Clank games and still manages to keep it interesting.

The game is a linear story but it does detour frequently for the mini-challenges.

The game makes much use of quick-time button sequences. This is a feature in games where you have to quickly tap a series of buttons in order to pass a certain part. At times the quick button press is made to operate like Rockband or Guitar Hero, where you have to tap the buttons in order and on time using all action buttons and arrow buttons. I found it fun and there were multiple missions set up like this.

If you are looking for a fun game, this is a great choice. There is racing, stealth, action and rhythm based missions. I highly recommend it.
