Secret Agent Josephine's ABC's Paperback – July 4, 2011
The Battle of the Vegetables
Leeks who believe a cow is one of Santa’s reindeer, carrots who accept an invitation to a party given by rabbits, and a leek and carrot couple whose romance precipitates total vegetable warfare are the hapless protagonists in these satiric, snarky stories. Hardcover

Love the idea of using these over the traditional paper flashcards which seem to always be tattered or missing cards. The only thing I miss being able to do is to 'mix up the stack' to give your child more of a challenge. I suppose you could just hit the point button at the bottom and show whatever comes up sporadically, it just seems sort of awkward to do so. Of course, this is also a great book for getting started and becoming familiar with letters.
What a delightful collection of ABC flashcards, and a delightful addition to my iPhone.
Being digital, I know the pages will all stay intact, so that's the first great thing about it. The illustrations are fantastic! I bought it for my 2 year old, but his 5 & 8 year old sisters love it just as much. It's a lot more original & fun than a lot of books we've seen. I think my favorite part is Q is for quetzal; I'd love to have that letter framed in our homeschool classroom!
So why not 5 stars? My biggest complaint is the lack of Secret Agent Josephine - she appears on the cover and not on the letter pages, so I felt (and I think a child might feel) misled. You can't have an exciting name like Secret Agent Josephine and not include her*! The text describing the letter's image is very small compared to the letter's illustration, and could be in a simpler font, or at least made larger and bolder to attract a child's interest.

* A neighbor's young daughter wondered where she was when I showed this to her, making me feel vindicated.
