It's a pleasant spring day in Southern CA when Sydney's new beeper goes off. SD-6 needs her for her first assignment. Traveling to Paris, she's to go undercover as the wife of a newly wealthy man. Together, they'll be shopping for a wardrobe at one of Paris's best fashion houses, which they believe to have a connection to K-Directorate, a Russian crime ring. The job should be simple, find an excuse to explore the building and leave cameras and bugs behind. As an added bonus, Syd's partner is Noah Hicks, a very attractive agent she's already had the pleasure of meeting. Of course, things are much more difficult then they appear, and soon Sydney and Noah are in way over their heads. Can this rookie agent make it out alive?

Fans of Alias will love this prequel novel. Getting a look at Sydney in training is a completely different perspective on the character, yet it fits in line with the show. Meeting Noah and learn more about his history with Sydney is an added bonus. My main complaint is that this book seems a little too straight forward. I love the twists on the TV show and was hoping more of that would appear here.

This novel is a fast read that will keep the reader turning pages. While it will have limited appeal to non-fans, fans of the series will love getting a bit of the back story on their favorite spy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book. BUT..., January 14, 2003

...I think I found the first one a bit more enjoyable. This one only covers a few days in Sydney's burgeoning career as a spy. It's almost like a "weekend warrior" type thing. It's her first real mission, and she's teamed up with Noah Hicks. While reading this installment, and about the things that Syd and Noah go through, I found it kind of sad that, in a few years, she would eventually kill Noah (this isn't a spoiler, unless you don't watch "Alias" on ABC...and if you don't, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU???).

Anyway, this book is breezy, lightweight fare. I believe it's meant for teens. I'm an Alias freak, hence why I purchased this book. But I think I'd like a more "adult" Alias book to read. You know...something I won't breeze through in two hours. I'm not complaining though. I bought this one, I bought the first one, and I'll buy the next one for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wheee! This makes up for the ALIAS rerun this week!, January 15, 2003

A great book. It's the story of Sydney's first "official" mission- because undercover concerts with sleazy Cubans don't count. Guess who her partner is- Noah Hicks! This book makes him sound relatively hot, not the No!Augh assassin he really is. Sydney and Noah go to Paris for a "simple" reconaissance mission- but nothing is as simple as it seems. They have great aliases- wealthy young people! Nothing like that, huh? And Sydney gets to try on pretty clothes! Sydney conquers her fear of deep swimming, which stems from "Laura Bristow's accident". And the first safe house visit! Let me get my scrapbook! Sydney finds herself falling in love with Noah, and almost tricks Francie! My God, Sydney at a frat party! That must be some dorm salad bar! Not really, read the book! (Techno beats of doom...) Does Sydney make it out alive? Well, DUH. She does have a whole series to get through. Does she fall in love with Noah? Well, DUH again! They meet again in season 1, episode 18, and Noah meets his timely demise in episode 19. Oh well. The book makes him seem more appealing than he really is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alias For Kids???, March 19, 2003
This review is from: A Secret Life (Alias) (Mass Market Paperback)
I really love the Alias T.V show so I thought that I would love the books. I have read the first two and they are very enjoyable and I recommend them to anyone who even remotely likes the show. The books show a side to Sydney that shows a different side to her. I don't know how to explain it but this book really brings it out when she is falling in love with Noah Hicks.

However I would say that most people that watch the show do not usually read children's books. I am sad to say that this is a child's book. It only has 202 pages. If I read it non-stop then I could have read it in two to two and a half-hours. The writers have done a good job of getting all of the books out in a timely fashion, but I think the readers need more. And knowing the Alias franchise they usually will satisfy their fan's needs. Maybe they should go towards a more of a Tom Clancy book. I think that as the show has gotten more graphic so should the books.

Over all I would have to recommend this book because it should give you a fix until next Sunday. However if they did go to a more adult book I think that more fans would purchase the books and, as long as the writers do not change the quality of the writing, then it should get five starts from everyone.

P.S If you could please e-mail me with any tips that would be great I really would like to be helpful on this subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sydney's first case, December 7, 2005
This review is from: A Secret Life (Alias) (Mass Market Paperback)
It's a beautiful day in the southern part of claifornia. Sydney was hanging out with her friend Francie when Sydeny's new pager goes off. Her job with the SD-6 needed her for her first assignment in paris. She goves undercover as a wife of a wealthy man. They go to one of Paris's famous houses to see if it's connected to the Russian Spy group known as the K-Directorate a russian crime ring. Syndey finds an excuse to explore the house so she could leave camera's and bugging devices behind so her parnter and her can see if there's any evidence in the house which would connect the russian spy group to the illegal firearms. Syd's partner was Hicks a handsome and attractive agent. Syd thought this would be easy but things get more difficult then they appear and soon noah and sydney and Noah are over their heads. Can Syd and Noah make it out alive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short But Great!, March 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: A Secret Life (Alias) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a big Alias fan, but I am not a youth, so I wasn't sure I'd like these books. But it turns out they are great reading, although too brief! The first book was very good at establishing everything, but I enjoyed this book even better. Primarily I think, because last year my husband & I traveled to Paris, and the descriptions of Paris in this book brought me right back! The writer accurately conveyed what a first-time visitor to The City of Lights feels, and also captures Sydney's personality at the same time. As I read these books the only strange thing is the "prequel" aspect - meaning that we already know how things turn out for many of these characters. During the first book and a little in this one, I kept thinking about Francie's recent sad demise on the show, and of course also of Noah Hicks' end last season. But for true fans of the show, no matter what your age, these books are a must-read! My only suggestion would be not to make the type so large and instead make the stories LONGER!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Girl from CIA, June 6, 2003

I love it, I love it, I love it. Not since my Man from UNCLE days as a kid in the 1960s have I enjoyed buying latest print tie-in to my favorite spy show. Back then, I bought up the Ace Paperbacks the day they hit the drugstore bookstands. These days, I feed my Alias fix, especially during the rerun season, with these books. They're obviously written for the teenaged girl (although why that should be so is beyond me--this is an adult show!), but I won't fault the books for that. Not exactly prize-winning thrillers a la John Le Carre or Robert Ludlum, but this is great entertainment nonetheless. If you're an Alias fan, you owe it to yourself to collect these books. If notthing else, like the Ace Paperbacks UNCLE tie-ins of long ago, these will be collectibles when the show is long gone ...
