5.0 out of 5 stars A different approach
A surprisingly different approach to secret societies. The book includes many interesting facts and numerous absorbing narratives of strange happenings in the author's life. The final picture is painted quite clearly, hope is held out, and actions we can take are delineated. An excellent read.

The author takes a psychological approach to explaining secret societies. However, he does this in a very rambling, disjointed and highly unconventional way. Don't get me wrong, convention is not always good, but by the time I was 1/4 the way through this book I was longing for some convention. It's not hard to see why the author has self-published. The book needs an editor for many reasons, only one of which is the highly disjointed fashion in which the author takes on the purported subject.

When I listen to John Rappaport on the radio I listen with great interest and I always leave the show fealing better informed. However, I cannot say I was better informed by reading his book. There are many, many better books on this subject to choose from and unless money flows into your bank account try another author.

5.0 out of 5 stars an unusual but important book, October 11, 2010
This review is from: The Secret Behind Secret Societies : Liberation of the Planet in the 21st Century (Perfect Paperback)
this book is difficult to describe because of it's format. The author is an artist, a painter, who by circumstances becomes involved with an ancient healing technique. In the search for the source of this technique, its original teachers, he stumbles upon some very interesting people and information. This book is about the power of our imagination, dreams, visualization, and the suppression of those human powers by people who seek control, whether in religion or politics. It's about the secret use of psychological techniques to take advantage of people whose imagination is weak, those who do not recognize their own power and freedom. it's about art, too, and the many ways human beings create in their lives. It's easy to read, many short "chapters", and will provoke many thoughts, fears, and dreams in the readers. I highly recommend it. The world is not as it seems; there are hidden forces at work, some outside ourselves, and other mysterious powers within us. There is much to fear, but even more to celebrate and be grateful for. Our liberation is in knowing our own power, our imagination, and how we can counteract people who are fascist in nature, those who want to destroy human imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jon Rappoprt NOMOREFAKENEWS, December 22, 2010

This review is from: The Secret Behind Secret Societies : Liberation of the Planet in the 21st Century (Perfect Paperback)
I first discovered this book in 1998 while browsing my favorite Metaphysical bookstore in Pasadena, Ca. I'd have to say that I was immediately blown away by the things the author talked about, starting in the first chapter. It wasn't your typical New Age type book. So I sat there reading this book for about an hour and finally purchased it.

Since then, I've had many profound changes in my life utilizing the ideas presented in this book. I have to say though, it took me a long time to really get what the author was saying, on a deeper level. This is one of those books where you might think you got it already, but maybe you only got 1/10th of it. Then when you begin to peel away the layers, you begin to have more clarity.

The author explains the power and importance of Imagination by going into a deep history of "secret societies". By saying "secret societies", the author isn't just pointing to the typical underground devil worshipping cults and such. He's talking things that are actually much more germane. Religions, media, government groups, our own thoughts even, are a part of this "secret society".

This "secret society", which I'll refer to as SS, has at it's root, a desire to control freedom and control thought. The author points to, for example, the Roman Catholic Church. For centuries, they have been able to dictate and police whole populations on how to behave and what to believe. Because the masses had given their power to this SS, so the restrictive canvas had been painted.

Nowadays, the media and various behind-the-scenes power groups are able to control and dictate the masses through sophisticated PR campaigns because the people, by and large, have willingly given up their individual creative powers. For the author, who is also an accomplished painter, teacher, investigative journalist, and radio talk show host, his road to discovering his own Imagination occured when he happened upon Richard Jenkins in 1963.

Jenkins was doing a special form of healing for people by utilizing the person's physical energy field. When Jenkin's was able to connect to this area, he would then introduce his own colors, shapes, sounds, etc. into the person's energy field. Then the person might respond and send back their own created vibes. This "dance" created a new flow within the person, triggering healing. The author was asked to begin performing this healing with no formal training.

At first the author wasn't sure what would happen, but eventually he made his own connection with the clients and began to improvise and create during the sessions thus creating healing for the client. Through these early sessions, the author had a realization that the creative and imaginative powers of an individual was a lot more important than society had led us to believe. So from here the author began painting.

He would spend hours and hours painting. The more and more he painted, the more he became aware that he had the power to create his own reality. A reality that had limitless possibilities. This is the anti-thesis of the "secret society". A society that pushes limited space, limited creativity, and limited power for everyone. Needless to say this is one amazing book. I've met the author and read his other work. He is a man with plenty of personal power.

As I've said earlier, I've benefitted greatly from reading this book and eventually applying some of the ideas in the book towards my own life. I recommend doing a search on Jon Rappoport(the author) and also checking out his other work. Many people are still "asleep" on this planet and waking them up includes triggering their creative powers. Reading this book is a good start to some profound, self-created changes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly original approach to liberation, June 5, 2008
This review is from: The Secret Behind Secret Societies : Liberation of the Planet in the 21st Century (Perfect Paperback)
Many of us tend to seek solace in someone else's inventions, ready-made systems that money can buy. But to Rappoport, liberation lies in the very act of creating. The individual's intent and action to imagine and create on one's own is the best antidote to any system conjured up by any secret societies, be them medical, energy or media cartel.

To me, that message was something I had never heard before. Very refreshing and inspiring stuff, to say the least.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual libertarian 'causality' theorist, March 28, 2007

This review is from: The Secret Behind Secret Societies : Liberation of the Planet in the 21st Century (Perfect Paperback)
This is a 'different' book even for me, or perhaps especially for me, as I'm at least a common-sense advocate of Aristotelian-Randian rationality. The author's main proposition is:

Two artistic visions have fought with each other about the course of humanity:

One is the formula of the secret society which uses symbols and ritual to control and dominate others and claims exclusive knowledge. The other is the "Tradition of the Imagination," which holds each of us possesses immense creative power to achieve our own fascinating artistic vision of life in voluntary community with others.

In this Tradition of Imagination lies our future if we are to have a future, and we shall overcome the secret-society conspiracy of power by outcreating it.

I see success of the Tradition as probable and imminent; it's clearly straight along the lines that virtually everyone even close to the freedom movement is thinking these days. It certainly motivates my Free State Portal buds.

I like to use the analogy of how the alien imperial walkers are destroyed in War of the Worlds. The walkers appear invincible, shielded against missiles and explosives, yet they collapse from ingesting ordinary earth-bacteria. It may not be flattering to visualize our meme of political freedom as a microbe, but who cares?

As we run through the litany of horrors unleashed upon the people of the world by The Beast[1], particularly its current tyrants who have seized the federal government, it's hard to imagine this multitrillion-dollar killing machine is about to bite the dust like a Saddam statue.

Yet just as Toto pulls back the curtain from the Great Oz, when a brave soul shines a flashlight on the deep workings of the dynasty, we see its limitations. We also see that whatever domination the creature does exercise rests on blind acquiescence of uncritical minds.

The Secret performs a timely public service in exposing these workings, particularly the more recent threads of control leading from the Church of Rome to those Wild and Crazy Nazi Cultists to the CIA as the premier secret society for the modern global-corporate-superstate bonecrushing machinery.

For those who want a more thorough treatment of the gory day-to-day details, I recommend an earlier book, actually an interview Jon conducts with David Icke: Lifting the Veil. This work is more what one would expect in the uncovering of suppressed truth of demonstrable conspiratorial power.

Then as one begins to look at the world through one's own eyes, one never again views the evening news the same.

You've been living in a dream world, Neo. -- Morpheus [2] ....

4.0 out of 5 stars painting your way out of a narrow canvas..., July 12, 2004

This review is from: The Secret Behind Secret Societies : Liberation of the Planet in the 21st Century (Perfect Paperback)
If the so-called "elite" had "power animals" I'm sure the predominate one would be the female mosquito...or like one of the "big-boys" quoted in the book says, "a deadly virus." Hey...come to think of it...maybe these guys ARE power animals...they are certainly predatory...

Anyway, if you've made it here, you probably have read some of the other books talking about the Trilateral Commission, the CFR, the boy's pirate club (322), etc. Are you depressed yet? If you are...and if your head is spinning with stories of major ebony magics...this book might be the thing for you! Why? Well...despite how bad things seem...Rappoport reminds us that it is just really really bad performance art (effective...but BAD), and we can change the performance via GOOD ART!!

Yeah...sure the book wanders around a bit...but it's all there to give you some in the head images concerning the way things could be...

5.0 out of 5 stars great reading, allows one to relate to his/her surrounding, December 19, 1999

This review is from: The Secret Behind Secret Societies : Liberation of the Planet in the 21st Century (Perfect Paperback)
this book provides u the shades of truth, in our histories past, and present. it cultivates u to be aware of the future and youre surroundings. it tells u that u are not alone, when it comes to saying why do things happen the way they do. thats just the tip of the iceberg, if u have read the books or were aware of the topics reffered/sited in this book, then its is a blast! u have to be at the right frame of mind to read it, which also means tha u are not bound or dictated by what u have been indoctrinated to believe. this cant be a "must reading" in colleges/or universities as there the mind has to be fully/partially controlled/influenced, upon completing this process then breaking down the falsehood is easy for an individual who has been on the path of enlightment. minimum age requirement suggested for reading 32+.
